Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our Hop Knot IPA is made only from American malt and lots of American hops, which produce a big, broad-shouldered, hoppy beer backed up by a character as warm as, well, Mom and apple pie...

Hop Knot IPA get its peculiar name from the weaving of four different hops added at four separate times during the brewing process. Including our cavernous hop-back, which gets so stuffed with whole leaf hops that we feel genuine guilt for its excess. Hop Knot is an ale that is to be enjoyed with friends, spicy food or any time you need a good hop fix without the harsh bitterness. We hope you enjoy this pioneering beer made in the bold spirit of Americans everywhere.

Had a bottle of this at the Doubletree Hotel in Tucson, AZ. Pours a crystal clear light amber color with a solid white head of substantial size. Great aroma from this one as well. Nice hoppiness with a bit of saltine cracker cleanliness in the malt portion. Just the way I like it. Flavor was spot on. Slightly dry with hops being the star. Light cracker malt backbone adds just enough sweetness to make this one well balanced without being overly sweet or hoppy, leaning toward the hop side. A solid offering and glad I got to try it.

12 oz. bottle:

Pours slightly hazed golden with a frothy white head. Trailing lace sticks.

The smell is of hemp/rope and grapefruit.

The taste is of earthy, leafy, citric, lemongrass. Bitterness is rounded out by a touch of sweetness. A little warming alcohol shows. Long, refreshing finish.

It could be fuller, but a pleasant bitterness lingers. Hop bitterness is pleasant. A very nice hop-forward brew!

Golden in color, exceedingly clear, one finger of white foam. Retention and lacing are minimal. The aroma is quite nice, strong grapefruit and tropical fruit notes. Taste is tropical fruit, grapefruit. Hops are forward, but mild malt backbone. Light medium body, moderate carbonation, somewhat dry finish. Overall a very nice version of the style.

Its not a super-hoppy beer, but its a good American IPA. Sampled at the brewery and not from a bottle. Good head, nice aroma, the mouthfeel is relatively smooth. Its a great tasting beer, even if the hop presence could be stronger.

Poured into a pint glass at 41 degrees. Appearance A one finger light tan head that has okay retention. The beer has a deep amber color with light brown hues. The clarity of the beer is fairly clear with a touch of haziness. Carbonation have eluded this beer, unless they are the size of atom.

A: Grapefruit, pine, orange, floral esters, lemon and some pine. Toasted malt with some caramel, biscuit, yeast and subtle sweetness in the background.

T: A typical hop flavors of grapefruit, pine, floral, lemons and pine, but a touch muted. . Toasted malt with some caramel, biscuit, bready, cereal, and some sweetness.

MF: Medium minus body, slightly astringent, medium low carbonation and a short finish.

O: This is a decent IPA. I prefer a more hop forward IPA.

A slightly hazy Golden with a half finger of white head that fades quickly. Moderate bubbles rising and spotty lacing. The aroma is mild grapefruit, a little pine, and cracker bread. Same goes for flavor. Very mild bitterness, the grapefruit is there in the flavor but doesn't really pop. Hops are just out front of the malts. The feel is kind of watery, good full carbonation, and overall dry. Slightly above average brew, to me.

Smells citrusy and hoppy. Light malty flavors with great hop bitterness and plenty of citrus as well. Great color and mouthfeel. Really enjoyed this beer.

Bottled 11/08/16. There's gotta be El Dorado hops in this one. Getting a lot of cotton candy and fruit juice (think apple, plum). Slight bitterness coming through, but it's pretty smooth. Light carbonation. Was expecting more aroma based on the "cavernous hop-back, which gets so stuffed with whole leaf hops", but alas, it's not there. Maybe it's the hop varieties used (they mention 5 total during boil), but maybe I'm just used to the high AA, oily ones.

Edit: Upon further investigation, the hops used are Cascade, Glacier, Magnum, Liberty, Simcoe. The fruitiness is most definitely coming from the Glacier, not El Dorado like I thought. Interesting mix of hops, which definitely comes through in the taste and aroma. Not your average American IPA.

Drank this at Sandbar Mexican Grill while watching pro football with the in-laws.
The beer was a gold color with a small white head. There was a bit of lace.
Citrus and pine aroma, some sweet malt.
Faint grapefruit and pine taste. Caramel.
Not much hop bitterness.

A solid IPA but it's a little on the watery side to me, there's not as much flavor as most IPA's. It also looks and feels lighter as well and not much smell either.
