Poured a gorgeous deep black body that let no light through with a finger of rich tan head that slowly receded. An excellent RIS that was very true to form. Scents of licorice, rich black coffee, roast malt, and a bit of rich dark chocolate. Overall impression is of a nice RIS aroma, that is true to style and complemented nicely in aroma by the addition of licorice root and coffee, the former of which takes a big role in the initial aroma. Flavor begins with a nice light licorice flavor, mingling with flavors of black coffee, and rich bittersweet milk and dark chocolate. Middle has a wonderful flavor of rich chocolate, mingling with coffee with cream, light licorice and black coffee. Finish is licorice, alcohol, vanilla, and a bit of rich chocolate. Aftertaste is licorice, black coffee, roasted malt and cocoa. Overall impression of flavor is a very nice RIS with most of the traditional flavors and a. IDE addition of licorice root and coffee that enhance the beer. Quite nice. Mouthfeel is heavy bodied with moderate carbonation and a smooth feel. Very nice and true to form. Overall this is an excellent RIS, with the flavors and aromas of the style present in full form, complemented by a nice mouthfeel. A very nice beer and one of Four Peaks' best.

On tap. Imperial Stout with licorice root and Indian Monsooned Malabar coffee.

Poured a dark black color with a small sized off whtie head. Aromas of coffee, earthy, chocolate, and some dark fruits. Tastes of coffee, vanilla creme, chocolate, lighter earthiness, and lighter dark fruits.

A traditional RIS with three pounds of licorice root as well as five pounds of Indian Malabar coffee thrown in, this recipe was a collaborative effort from all of the brewers at Four Peaks and first premiered as Winter Wobbler 2008, their yearly special winter seasonal.

I've tried this beer twice now: first poured into a four-ounce taster during the 2011 Arizona Strong Beer Fest, and again poured into a taster at the 2011 RAREaffair. Both were very different taste experiences, but this review reflects the most recent one.

Dark syrupy brown with amber highlights. Foamy 1.5 finger head, leaving a medium-sized, frothy ring and nice jagged walls of lace.

Rather plain aroma. Black strap molasses, licorice, cigar smoke. Very dark smell.

Tastes like a laurel hedge. It's softly smoky, with heavily burnt oats, cotton candy and light roast coffee. Perhaps some licorice and peanut skins as well. A very smooth blend.

Medium, soft, smooth body that's a little thinner than I expected. Low, massaging carbonation. Alcohol comes down throat and blazes through the nostrils a bit.

I can't figure Sirius Black out. The first time I had it, it was thin, tangy and weird; the second time showcased nothing but smoothness. I'll bump up the overall once I experience some consistency.
