Picked up a Four Pack from the Scottsdale Four Peaks Brewpub two weeks ago for $16.99. Bottled on 3-28-16 per the smudged date.

Beer pour black into my Spiegelau glass with a fizzy brown head that dissipated quickly.

Nose has nice Whiskey barrel notes, oak and vanilla are very prevalent.

Taste is oak and vanilla forward with an immediate alcohol warming sensation. Some char from the malts lingers but it could be more hopped to reduce the sweetness that is not cloying but would be an improvement.

Feel is medium and lacking the body i expect in a RIS.

Overall a tasty beer that has potential to be better. Perhaps this is a limitation of the base beer? I plan on trying this out over the next four months or so.

Bottle thanks to Rick (6/11/14). One of my highlights of the evening, this thick, flavorful brew (bourbon barrel aged) hit it on all levels. Dark muddy brown pour with a small tan head. Aroma was tons of roast malts, bourbon, whiskey, licorice and plenty of heat. Taste followed with more of the same, slick and slippery and very warming. Excellent.

Had on-tap at the Yard House in Phoenix, AZ. Poured into a goblet.

L: Poured an inky black with thin tan head. No light was getting through this one.

S: Roasted malts and coffee. Chocolate and booze.

T/F: Booze up front and all the way through. The stout definitely played second fiddle with the roasted grains and coffee present but subdued. Oakiness for sure. Warming from the alcohol. Light on the carbonation.

O: A decent bourbon stout but not one of the best. Too boozy (if that's possible?) And not enough stout. Still one I'd have again. A nice after dinner sipper.

A - poured with one finger of light tan foam on top ofa black body. Head settles quickly and leaves light lace.

S - strong barrel character with notes of chocolate, raisins, oak, and licorice.

T - whiskey and dark, sugary malt up front. Raisins, chocolate and some boozy, almost solvent like character. Finishes with dark fruit, oak and boozy vanilla.

M - medium body, moderately low carbonation, and a sweet finish.

D - dark and intense with an almost, but not quite excessive barrel character.
