Draft at PreFunk. Mahogany pour with small, spotty beige head. Pit fruit. Plums, brown sugar and yeast. Medium weight. Tasted good as I haven’t had a dubbel in a while.

Pretty good brew. Despite the commercial description there is some sweetness tho certainly not overdone. Flavors of herbs spices, rye, malt, yeast, carbonic tang. Excellent body is a little chewy which with perfect carbonation helps to make very drinkable beer.

From the corked, caged 750 ml. bottle. Sampled on April 30, 2015.

The cork popped with little fanfare. Came right off. No noise. I wouldn't necessarily hold that against the beer but I like my corks to go flying across the room!

Attractive sweet caramel, toffee, and brown sugar malt characters are the immediate sensation. There is also a kind of cherry fruitiness in the scent. Low hops.

Medium to above medium body. Smooth.

The taste emulates the aroma. Lots of sweet to overly sweet malts, vibrant cherry or berry fruits, and mild to moderate bitterness to finish.

Pours really dark brown with a small fluffy off-white head, leaves a nice sticky lacing as it slowly recedes.
Smells of fresh red apple slices, sugared cherries, raisin, faint banana, fresh fig, faint pear, caramel, bit of candi sugar, faint fresh bread.
Fruit and caramel up front, mirroring the smell perfectly (plus some dried citrus peel), with a bit of toasted malt building up, bit by bit. Some chocolate later on, spices showing up, with anise, pinch of peppercorn, faint clove, some ginger, faint cinnamon. A perfect combo, reminding of chocolate cake, riddled with spices and dried dark fruit. Some earthy hop in the finish, mildly bitter, slightly dry.
Aftertaste has dark fruit, apple chips, chocolate cake crust, some fresh citrus peel, spicy yeasts and stewed hop. Medium body, low smooth carbonation, but packs a nice tiny prickle.
A really awesome abbey-style beer, really hits all the right notes, and ultimately.. the spot. Did not expect this.

Big spicy nose with nutmeg and allspice give way to a light touch of anise. Pours deep dense chestnut under a thick rocky 3” foam collar – root beer float quality foam producing thick icebergs that perist to the bottom of the glass and leave thick ledges of lace. A blend of clean malts, dark sugars, dark fruits such as plum and fig combined with anise and nutmeg and traces of alcohol evoke fruit cake in a glass. The finish hints at rootbeer. Very creamy with soft finely bubbled medium high carbonation, and a medium body.
