From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #63 (Apr 2012):

LOOK: Hazed brass, sticky head

SMELL: Herbal, citric rind, earthy, woody, leafy, nutty yeast, Asian pear, spicy, fresh hay

TASTE: Smooth, citric peel, mint, hop bitterness, fresh grain, hemp seeds, toasted crackers, faint buttery yeast, walnuts, orange pith; dry, hoppy finish

One brewer’s Pale is another’s IPA, and this one lands on the opposite end of the spectrum from the highly hopped IPAs that beer geeks rally around. While this IPA might be flaunting a bit more malt than most, it certainly does not lack in hop flavor, which will at least keep your inner hophead content.

Mix of light copper and orange, minorly off white head, 3/4" up on it, mild piney aroma, seems like nugget hops contribute the straight bitterness.

Caramel/crystal/pale malts paired with a good but not massive amount of hopping. Solid stuff, but nothing killer either.

Really just standard fare for this neck of the woods, but above average compared to the world as a whole for style.

Easily worth it for $4 a pint or $8 a 6er if that were to ever happen. Straight up no frills ipa that delivers in every area an ipa should.

On tap at the brewpub.

Pours a clear golden-copper color with a lasting one-finger white head.

Aroma is sweet malt and piney, citrus, and marijuana-esque hops, as hoppy HMB beers tend to have.

Flavor also has sweet pale and caramel malt, orangish and piney hops. Very similar to the pale ale except for a stronger weed presence.

Medium-bodied with average carbonation and mouthfeel for the style. Not at all palate-wrecking.

A decent IPA ale overall. Enjoyable if nothing special.

Almost a full inch of head, light orange and auburn colors. A lot of bitterness, mild woody-pine notes in the aroma, very mild.

Taste was a bunch of caramel, and a small amount of hopping. Hope you like your ipa malty. And approaching "balance". I don't particularly.

01/21/05- On tap at the HMB Brewery.

Presentation- 4 oz sampler over a 2 day 4 sampler binge.

Appearance- Small head, light lacing and a lighter than average golden pour.

Smell- Decent amount of hops fill the air. Mostly pine and woody scents.

Taste- Lots of hops, but very very watery. This dulls out the hops incredibly. They are a bit fruity, but the taste just doesn't hit you.

Mouthfeel- Ultra watery with a low carbonation. Almost flat tasting.

Drinkability- No need if it's always this watery. At least let the taste come out.

A - Pours a cloudy orange-red color with a finger of frothy slightly off-white head atop. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of sweet lightly toasted caramel malts with some citrus hops and a touch of pine hops in the background.

T - Starts off with some sweet caramel malts with some citrus grapefruit hops and a touch of bitterness. Through the middle, some pine hops join in alongside some stronger bitterness. The finish is a mix of some lighter bitterness, grapefruit hops a touch of pine hop, and some sweet caramel malt.

M - Medium to medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation. It feels smooth with a lightly dry sweet finish.

Consumed 12/19 at the brewpub. Review written on a coaster and then transcribed.

A: Golden orange, 1/2 finger of head that recedes slowly with filamentous lacing remaining on the glass.

S: Strong hoppy odor with a hint of citrus, but the hops are overpowering. There is no real depth to the flavor.

T: Fresh floral hops w/ a hint of citrus. Luckily the flavor is much deeper than the nose.

M: Smooth, with a very good level of carbonation. Sits nice and airily on the palate.

D: Very smooth. I could definitely have another one, and although the nose lowered my expectations the taste made up a bit for it.

On tap at the brewery (which has a nice location with a very nice view of the water). orange color. Aroma was boring, not very much hop aroma, sort of grainy. The flavor was not nice, i distinctly thought of cooked broccoli and cauliflower. I asked the waitress if they get any comments about how much better Tunnel Vision is and she gave a very political answer about not discriminating against beers but that's exactly what I am going to do. This beer sucked.
