Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
India Pale Ales are distinguished by an eminent hop flavor, bitterness and aroma. Royale 41 is no exception to the rule. This Imperial IPA acquires its stately title from the 41st parallel – the latitudinal mark that runs through our brewery in the Northern Hemisphere and the hop-growing region of New Zealand in the Southern Hemisphere. Loaded with American and New Zealand hops, and fermented with an American yeast, this is a union fit for nobility.

From notes. L: Gold amber with a light haze, rocky offwhite foam cap. S: minty, herby citrus.T: Big malt followed by fruit, citrus and big hops. Attack goes malt, malt-fruit, hop biter, hop fruit, hopp bitter, then long lingering bitter aftertastes – not a harsh bitterness, a little grass in the bitterness, some astringency from the hops F: Very creamy, creamy head, above medium body O: One of their better offerings.

Quite pretty, good foam, lace. Nothing special to smell. Tastes okay, I'm not crazy about it but it is astonishingly complex and definitely enjoyable for all the different stuff going on. Feels quite smooth and alcoholic, which is fun.

Unknown how old this bottle is, but I believe it has some age due to some sweetness. It still tastes delicious. At first there are nice honey and caramel malts, then some orange and grapefruit but the hop bitterness comes in on the finish. I like how this beer has a 4.1 rating to match the label. :)

Appearance: Dark orange color. A finger of head on the pour which was present while drinking. Low active carbonation for the style. Sticky lacing left behind with each drink.

Smell: Orange peel, grapefruit, saturated citrus. Some lighter tropical fruits pop through with accents of mango, kiwi, and papaya. Caramel malt notes are present but this is a heavy citrus forward aroma.

Taste: Light fruits hit first on the palate with mango, tangerines, papaya, and some grassy herbal notes. Heavier orange peel, pine, and grapefruit pick up on the body. The malt profile is a medium bodied sweetness which fits well and helps even out the heavy hops. Finish is light with some lingering sweetness and a touch of piney hops.

Mouthfeel: The front and body are good and well, but the finish is slightly lacking. Carbonation is on the lower side.

Overall: A good IIPA, certainly worth a try if you see it but I wouldn't seek it out. I would certainly try other Peach Tree offerings after this well put together brew.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden-yellow color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled very piney with toasted caramel. Very malty tasting with a strong piney bitterness.
