Very Good
Anna Belle's IPAAnna Belle's IPA
Notes: A ruby beer with a burst of hop flavors and aromas are paired with a solid malt backbone and a clean and pleasant bitterness that lingers on the palate. Aromas of pine and citrus are prevalent due to heavy dry-hopping with a blend of West Coast hops.

A: light amber/rust/orange body, finger head, patchy lacing

S: lemon grass, malt, floral

T: light sweet lemon grass, malt, floral, earthy,
light long bitter finish

M: med body, smooth, hint of oily/sticky mouth

O: Very earthy, malty IPA. Interesting
offering from Galena. Was able to share a growler
with my brother-in-law. This is a nice session brew,
the alcohol is very well hidden.

Went up for the STEEEEEEVE but the well ran dry so I enjoyed a couple of these. Tasty. Nuff said.

On tap at Bombfire Pizza in Sabula, Iowa. (Every word in that last sentence was spelled correctly, even though they don't look like it).

Pours a thick amber with a nice head. Smells like citrus and pine hops against bread malt and a nice, doughy yeast finish. Big nodes of cascade, but the balance is what really makes the beer worth writing about; that, and the fact that it does a grand job hiding its fairly high ABV. The hop profile isn't exceptional or anything, but overall this is a wonderfully quaffable strong-ish IPA.

I've had a few beers from Galena, and this is by far their most solid offering. Makes me think they might be getting their act together and maybe even producing beers worth seeking out.

Fresh on tap today at the brewery.
Review from written notes, scoring to style

Deep saturated orange color, fairly bright and clear.
Sticky collar of white foam that leaves some lacing on the way down. Herbal and citrusy hop smell, dried orange peel from the Cascade and Amarillo. Moderately bitter with some citrus and caramel notes. Dry resiny finish. Meduim bodied, approaching a DIPA in terms of the abv range (7.5%), which was thankfully hidden. Pretty tasty, could be a little more aromatic and punchy with the hops. Bartender said they ran out for a week or two recently due to a scarce hop supply... better stockpile!

The GBC’s entry for those desiring lively, hoppy beer (as the servers' shirts say: “Don’t worry, be hoppy”).

Annabelle has a great slightly cloudy golden color with reddish tinge and well-formed head with generous lacing of the glass. Brilliant piney, citrus (slightly grapefruit) hoppiness up front which holds, then finishes with a snappy cleanness.

Food pairing: Pairs well with Oriental food, especially spicy food. Able to take on stronger flavored food and stand up to it, but not a good match to overly acidic foods.

Available year-round on draft, in bottles and in kegs. My favorite at GBC.

IBU’s 70; 7.5% abv

Beer poured from bottle into Nonic shaped pint glass

A - Beer pours from bottle with 1 & 1/2 finger sized rocky head; holds very well; moderate level of foamy lacing; body is dark copper in colored and opaque;

S - Very hoppy nose; roasted malt comes up right after; caramel; pine; touch of cotton candy; sweet

T - Smooth caramel and roasted malt flavor; hoppy, pine taste; delicious hop flavor; not to heavy and not to weak, just right; slightly sweet

M - Thick body; moderately bitter aftertaste; very well carbonated

D - Very well balanced flavor and mouthfeel profile; great taste and fantastic drink

I had the pleasure of tasting this fresh out of the tap at the brewery in a flight, and everything I tasted there was good. This one stood out, so I bought the growler, and this review is based on a second tasting from that growler.

Annabelle's has a lovely amber color, and it is slightly opaque. In this pour, the head was non-existent. Swirls leave a small trace of bubbles on the side. The smell is, to me, lightly floral and grassy with a touch of citrus. The nose is very light.

The taste is well balanced, with a hint of fruitiness and malty sweetness up front. The backend is hoppy, on the floral side. It leaves a nice trace of bitterness at the very end, and a classic hops flavor lingers in the mouth for a bit after every sip. Very smooth mouthfeel, not very heavy. This beer is very drinkable, would make a great session beer, and seems like it would also play well with food. So far you can only get it direct from the brewery in Galena.

Poured from a bottle into a Stella goblet. This is another one I have had on tap at the brewery, but recently found in bottles. Thought I would give it a shot.

a- aggressive pour gives it an inch and a half of creamy white head. Not quite as thick as some IPA's I have seen, but it still has nice tight bubbles and lasts quite a while. Leaves a pleasant lacing on the glass. Color is light burnt orange, typical for the style.

s-sweetness or tropical fruits, pineapple maybe. some bitter hops and some sweet malt

t- sweet malt and sticky hops resin. Tropical fruits, pineapple and maybe mango and as it warms a little cherry. Some sugary sweetness on the backbone and then more hop resin bitterness.

m- very slightly oily feel, coats the mouth nicely. Lots of sweetness in the beginning and dry bitterness doesnt come on til the finish. Extremely drinkable for being 7.5 abv. This is a sessionable IPA that could catch up to you quickly.

overall, this is one of my favorite Galena Brewing Brews. I have had it from the tap as well, and neither dissapoint. This is the first time I have seen it bottled, and hope they continue to do so. At $7.50 a six-pack, it is a great beer and one I will continue to seek out if I cant get downtown to the brewery. 4
