Elephant & Castle (E&C) is a Canadian-owned chain of "British pubs." While, the majority offers the usual suspects on tap, E&C will always have Fullers on draft (or draught, I guess). This is the reason to stop by if in the neighborhood - in this case, the corner of I Street and 19th Street, also known as "Farragut West after the nearby Metro Station. [Irony Alert: Elephant & Castle is the name of a tube station in London.]

Anyways ... it is a rather small and cozy place that has a large hook-shape bar, a smattering of booths and tables; additionally, there is a fireplace on the right as you enter the front door. E&C also provides a large terrace for those wishing to watch traffic tie-ups over a frothy Boddingtons. Add several TVs for the mandated "sports bar" décor and you're ready for action or inebriation.

The food is pretty filling and tasty; get a Cheddar Burger to quash serious hunger - it is eee-normous! Great service is always to be found here. One point of note: an imperial pint of abovementioned Fullers costs $6.50, but it is DC and it is a fine, hard-to-find on tap, beer.

That said, check it out. While, I would not exchange an evening at Churchkey for one at E&C Farragut West, I could see myself stopping by when seeking beer in this beer wasteland of a neighborhood. Incidentally, this is their second DC location, the other being on Pennsylvania Avenue. (See My Review.)
