Ascending a flight of steps, the glass case of logo items was to the left at the landing with the m.d.s. to the right with benches to sit on while waiting for available seating. It was located right on Main Street in Huntington Beach so it stays popular during all open hours. They had a very personable waitstaff who checked their t-shirt supply for me, allowed me to take pictures and provided me with a sampler, this last courtesy of Mike, our generous server.

The huge, laminated wood bar was "U"-shaped and included the brewhouse and four FVs as its back bar. The bar was to the right upon entering with restaurant seating to the left. There were more tables and chairs off to the right, past the bar, with balcony seating beyond that.

Beers: HB Blonde; Brickshot Red; Main Street Wheat; Pier Pale Ale; HB Kristal-Weizen; and Golden Bear Brown Ale. I really liked the brown due to its relative lack of sweetness.

Don't even bother to go here unless you are desperate. The beer is outdated and the food is ok. Better alternatives exist in town. Will work in a pinch but that's a stretch.

Being that I live down the street from Huntington Beach Brewing Company I wish it was a great brewery or even a decent spot to drink. Unfortunately, this place falls flatter than a pint left at room temperature for two weeks. The house beers mostly miss the mark and often have attenuation issues, but there are a few decent guest taps. The food borders between acceptable and terrible.

This is the only brewery I’ve ever been to where the place turns into a dance club on Friday and Saturday nights. If you are eating dinner and aren’t finished by the time dancing starts, your food and chair will be taken – you’ve been warned!

Descent food, poor service, great patio and indoor area. Irish Red and Ocktoberfest have been good here for 10+ years. Great prices on growlers.

great place to meet a friend for a beer however, not so good on selection of what to drink. Its more like a regular bar than a brewery with almost home brew equipment for brewing beers.

Stopped by on Friday.. Blonde, triple, brown, DIPA, red and stout. The DIPA was a big hoppy ale at 9%, unfiltered and delicious. Had the triple next and it had a nice candy/alc taste that was all right. Sampled the brown and it was a light roast & malty ale. I finished with Red, a nice amber colored, malty slightly hoppy ale. Overall very drinkable brews and will be back for sho.

If you are standing outside of Huntington Beach Brewing Co, turn @ and make the drive down to Newport Beach Brewing Company. Trust me, do yourself a "flavor"

Cheers: The red ale was decent enough. When it FINALLY arrived.

Jeers: An insult to the brewing community. Sure it has a outdoor elevated patio, but that patio is mobbed with pretentious d bags and their even lamer friends: the staff. Actually, that's the only thing that HBBC has going for it. I am willing to be that the same lameo bromos that frequent this trainwreck would still shuffle on down if they served Busch Light in plastic cups and said that it was the Blonde Ale. An upgrade to their food would be to serve bait from the pier and call it sushi. But then again, sushi might get all insulted and stuff and go konichiwa on HBBC. Which is just what this place needs: a swift kick in the keester. Saying that this place is horrible is an understatement. Service was atrocious, staff was rude and arrogant, food was sub par. If you read the Yelp reviews, they just don't care about how patrons in the community perceive them. Honestly, the WORST restaurant and bar (notice that I didn't call it a brewery/) that I have ever experienced. This is a never again.

This place relies on its location.

How can someone resist a nano brewery? well, try your best to resist this place, if you're ever in the Huntington Beach area.

Atmosphere: the best part, the only good part. and upstairs restaurant with a nice outdoor dining area that over looks the huntington beach shopping area

Quality/Selection: the beer was awful...honestly one of the worst breweries out there. they only have very poor examples of common styles. My guess is that the purpose of this place was to be a gimmick to make money rather than making good quality beer.

Food: also terrible. extremely greasy, burnt, and just poor quality.

If this brewery was not in a touristy area, it would've failed very quickly.

This place can be tough to find as it's upstairs (above a Baskin Robins) and you have to see the small door and follow the stairs up to the restaurant.

Fairly small inside but there is a good sized bar and several tables inside. There is also a patio outside with seating (and it has some of those heaters which are useful in the evening).

The beer selection is fairly small. They had five house beers and a guest beer or two. The house beers are not very good at all, and the guest beer I remember being on was Great White (also not very good).

A sampler of all of the house beers (and they threw in the Great White) was reasonably priced, $5.50. Food items seem priced about what you would expect.

I can't really (in good conscience) recommend this place because, well, their beers suck. Not to mention parking in Huntington Sucks, too.

Only four beers on tap:
HB Blond - A Kolsh-style ale (4.5%),
Pier Pale,
Golden Bear Brown Ale,
Hercules - A Belgian style ale (9%)

I sat outside on the deck overlooking Walnut and Main during the weekly Tues night farmer's market. The place seemed surprisingly quiet when I arrived around 6:30 in the evening. I had no problem scoring a small granite topped table overlooking the crowd, street perfomers and vendors below. Given the limited beer selection I ordered the Brown (all HB beers are $3 on Tuesdays) and the Mahi Mahi Fish and Chips ($10.50). The service was pleasant and prompt, and the food came out super quick.

The Golden Bear Brown was a big malt bomb, not bad, but one dimensional and not my favorite take on the style. The fish and chips came with two large pieces of fish, fried dark amber, and enough french fries to choke a horse. Couldn't tell what the fish was, other than bland, with each bite needing a good dose of tarter sauce.

Overall, I was unimpressed. This place is really not a beer destination, especially given the multitude of better places in Orange County (heck, even BJs across the street probably has a better selection). But, if you happen to find yourself in Surf City, and just want a cold beer with a view, the HB Beer Co. might suffice.

After my first ever surfing experience, I was exhausted and hungry, and I had a thirst that could only be quenched by a carb replenishing beer. After everybody in our party shot down the lame place my Aunt had in mind, I looked up and noticed a brewpub across the street that we all agreed on.

The brewpub sits on the second floor of another business. Has a rather large patio area with a nice view of the beach and the Main Street. The bar is pretty large and has lots of TVs, like a typical sports bar brewpub. There was a disappointing 3 house beers on tap (IPA, Pilsner, Stout), in addition to the guest tap: Firestone Pale Ale.

First of all, I had changed out of my wetsuit, but I stayed in my board shorts and rashguard, so I forgot my wallet in the car due to lack of pockets. Even though I am 26 years old and was traveling with two librarian women twice my age, along with my aunt and her boyfriend, who are even older, I was not served because I forgot my ID. Seriously... my bad, but come on... everybody was asking me what they should order. LOL. Fortunately the waitress turned the other cheek when I ended up having my mom buy me a few pints. Other than that, the service was pretty decent. The bar wasn't nearly as busy as some of the horror stories I've read about before posting my own review, although the patio seating was completely packed.

Anyway, the Pilsener was surprisingly very good. Nice and hoppy with a clean, crisp finish. The stout was good, but nothing too spectacular. The IPA was kind of a disappointment, however, especially considering how refreshingly hoppy the pils was.

The food was very good. Just typical sports bar food, but everything was fresh. My salad was really good. Just enough dressing, and the ranch seemed like it was homemade. Everybody else enjoyed their food as well.

Overall, it was a pretty good experience. Good specials and affordable prices on both food and beer.

This place is barely visible on the busy Main Street in Huntington Beach, stopped there yesterday after a long day at the beach, cannot emphasize how busy it was, thanks to both Memorial Day weekend and the AVP tournament going on down at the pier, walk up a narrow staircase to this place which sits only on a second story above a retail store, place is not very big inside and has more of a sports bar feel, atmosphere is what you would expect from this area and beach vicinity, the beers they had on tap were Pier Pale Ale, Golden Bear Brown, also their blonde and Helles, guest tap was Stella Artois and some macros, did not stay long and just tasted a few of the beers and checked the score of the Dodgers game, bartenders were pretty awful, took a good ten minutes to get their attention, they were just talking to one another while a bunch of customers were waiting, probably would make the extra drive to Newport Beach if I was in this area again and wanted a beer, might be worth checking out because there is not much else in Huntington except for BJs across the street

I have been to downtown Huntington Beach a number of times, but I had never been able to spot HBBC on Main Street. There's a single door and a menu at street level, but that's it. This time I kept my eyes peeled for an address. I found it, opened the door, went up two flights of stairs, and I was at the bar.

There were some diners both inside and outside the place. If you sit outside, you can get a good view of Main Street and the beach. Sitting inside, you get a good view of multiple flat-screen TV's and a few kettles. Kind of cool inside, although most of the people there weren't drinking beer....not a good sign.

Six house beer were available: Pale Ale, Helles Lager, Blonde Ale, Wheat Ale, Schwarzbier, and Red Ale. In addition, there is a small collection of guest taps. Glassware is chilled and the usual shaker pint glass, but despite the chilled glass, my helles lager wasn't as cold as I would have expected. My beer was okay, no great shakes.

My server at the bar was friendly and took good care of me. I even got a glass of water when I didn't ask for it. For food, I went for a "pub favorite", shrimp and chicken kabobs with french fries. The kabobs were quite good, the fries were okay. Next time, don't serve the fries on a bed of lettuce or some of them will get soggy. A little pricey as well: lunch and a beer cost me more than $17.

A so-so visit. I might be back if I were close by, but the beer and food isn't going to grab your senses in a good way to make it worth a long treck.

There are a few brew pubs in Orange County, but this one has always been confounding. The rents this close to the beach must demand high turnover, so all else has to be sacrificed to reach that goal. For years this place has been around and rarely was it ever packed. In fact, it was many a weekend night that I could go in there and just be one of 15 or so people inside of a large open space. I think that the main issue has always been that the beers are just not up to par for anybody. They don't satisfy the craft beer fan, yet they are still too eclectic for the macro beer drinker.

I would have loved to see if they could have worked their beers to draw in both the craft beer fan and have one micro lager that tastes like a macro, just to satisfy the tourist traffic. Instead, they concentrated on moving more hard liquor and adding flat scren TVs. This has worked from a business perspective of driving more traffic for the short term, but I don't buy into this as a great long term strategy for a brew pub.

The previous brewer must have had his taste buds removed, because for years they poured beers that were basically undrinkable. There is no posible way that any brewer tasted these beers and thought that he was serving good beer. Then they brought in (or moved up) a different brewer who added one or two beers that have been OK, but generally speaking, the beers haven't improved much.

If you are a completist trying to hit as many brew spots as you can in the Orange County area, you will get an eyefull of beach girls and even some half way decent views from their elevated patios. Walk the pier at sunset and enjoy the scene to make this downtown stop worth while.

Visited this place over 4th of July (actually July 3)... It took my wife and I almost 2 hours to get there from West LA, so I was in a pretty lousy mood when we got there. However, I was pleasantly surprised as soon as we went in. To begin with, happy hour is from 2-6, with $3 pints and half price apps (and almost the whole menu is on there)... I started with a Krystalweizen, which was remarkable, since I had never had that style before. It was quite hot that day, and a filtered weizen hit the spot. I also tried the blonde, which was good, but not remarkable. Service was excellent. They dropped my shish kebab, so all our beers were free. Good food, good beer, good service.

Visited on Sunday, April 13th at about 4:00pm.

This establishment is a short climb up a narrow staircase (or elevator ride) from the flesh circus of Main Street Huntington Beach. There is a small waiting room just outside the restaurant proper where we waited twenty minutes for a table (for a party of two), despite there being several tables available. When we asked the hostess why we couldn't be seated at one of these tables, we were told that the waitress serving them was on a break.

When she came back, we were seated along a window near the bar. The place was full of young locals and tourists, almost all of whom were more interested in watching sports on the three or four flatscreen plasmas than in good beer.

I looked at the six beer taster: Huntington Beach Blonde (no thanks), a cream ale (not into these lighter styles), a "spring lager" (please, darker and more robust beers) a pale ale (they were out of it), an oatmeal stout, a red ale and Franziskaner hefe (a good beer, but I was not there to have anyone else's beer. I wanted to try theirs). I passed on the sampler and just ordered the stout, which was passable but not much else. For a second pint, I tried to order the red, but was informed they sold out between my first order and my second. I switched to soda.

From the time we ordered food to the time we got it was almost 20 minutes (total time in the establishment before we got food: 45 minutes) before we got our small pizza (tasty) and turkey burger (not so much).

A table near us was seated about five minutes sooner than us. They got their food, ate it and got "to go" boxes for their leftovers before we got our food.

In summary: a place that can't manage its business through effective wait staff scheduling, can't handle the demand for their own beer, can't deliver simple dishes quickly and has a weak beer selection. Next time I'm in Huntington Beach, I'll probably go across the interesection to BJ's.

Located in the heart of Huntington Beach just a couple blocks from the beach above a Baskin Robbins. A nice atmosphere, tons of tvs with sports, a big bar and a decent amount of seating. The service was ok, the waitress we had didn't know much about the beers they sold, which was a bit disappointing. The selection was your average finger foods, burgers, soups, and salads. We had the nachos and they were good, plenty to eat.

We went on Tuesday when they shut down the entire street, so the brewery was running a special on pints, which was nice. The beer was not extremely impressive, but if you are in the area this is a great place to go check out. I tried the porter and the IPA, both were decent beers, nothing amazing.

Overall a good hangout that I will go back to if I am in the area.

I grew up in the OC and always hate going back to visit family and friends. The culture never really jived with me, it's almost impossible to find anything locally made, or authentic save for a good burrito here and there. I had seen mentions of this place in a few of the beer rags and thought I'd make it a point to take an old friend there and check out what HB has to offer.

I wasn't expecting much, because some of the other breweries I've been to in The OC were pretty lackluster. To our surprise the food portions were huge and tasty, and the beers were decent. I had their Belgian Ale which was kind of basic, with a nose of corriander and clove and a bit of body. The Kolsch was amazingly clean and crisp.

The place was pretty empty and it was nice looking out over main street in the cold night. The waitress was pretty chatty. One thing that struck me as absolutely bizarre was when the staff took turns cranking up rap videos on the dozens of huge tv's. From oldskool 2short to some hyphy crap. It's all fine and well, I'm a fan of hiphop myself.. but it was a bit comical seeing all these skinny white kids bumping rap music. I was hoping to be treated to some surf punk music or whatever it is the OC's known for.

Went to the Huntington Beach Beer Co. at about 3:30 pm on a Wednesday afternoon. The place was practically bare, but there were 2 other patrons at the bar. The place looks like a simple oceanside bar, with surfing decor and other aquatic decorations around the restaurant. I still hadn't been to my hometown brewpub, so this was a good opportunity to check it out. I had the Altbier and the Brown Ale, both good, but nothing to write home about. Went during happy hour, so the 2 beers were only $6, a great deal. While they make good beer, I think they emphasize their mixed drinks more than their beer, even though this is a brewpub. All and all, though there are some problems, I think this is a good brewpub, and nice to have it in my own backyard, they even had Moylan's Hopsickle on-tap which was cool to see. Parking downtown can be a mess, so I wouldn't go during peak hours, but overall, I enjoyed my time spent there during happy hour.

Edit - I'm seriously docking the atmosphere score here due to my last visit, let me tell you why. They allow smoking on the outside patio. Fine. But if you do that, keep the door to the rest of the pub closed please, the stench drifted in and became unbearable in my section. I tried to move to a section free of smoke, but they said the tables there were reserved. Fuck. I chugged my beer down and paid as fast as I could. Makes me really not want to go back again.

As has been said, go for the view, whether of the sun-kissed girls milling around down on the street, or of the setting sun...or of the construction nearby.
The beer isn't good enough of a reason to go, so be sure to sit outside and enjoy the view.

I can't say that I've ever had special food here, though I've certainly given them enough chances. Service has been fair on their best days, but terrible on others. Beer knowledge has been pretty poor, and impatience is high - you work in a freaking brewpub, so be prepared for me to ask questions about what you make!

I have always found the Pier Pale Ale to be pretty good and quite drinkable, but never got into the unspectacular red - can't remember the name, but it involved "brick." The only other brew that made a distinct impression (not favorable) was a Trippel with excess coriander.

My hotel always has a fridge - next time I'll get a slice at La Rocca's, a bottle of something decent I picked up at BevMo or whatever, and enjoy the sunset actually on the beach.

After spending the Saturday at the Stone 10th Anniversary Party, and after hooking up with BA’s Seagoat and HoppyJess it seemed only natural to have continue the previous days libational excesses and start with Spicy Burger and Garlic Fries lunch at O’Briens followed by stops at Pizza Port San Clemente and then yet more wallet loosening activities at HiTimes in Costa Mesa. But a detour up PCH from Costa Mesa to Huntington Beach was afforded us as the sun began to set to allow the out-of-town guest BA Erica to go into the Pacific Ocean.

After a feet wetting near the Huntington Beach Municipal Pier, it was only a short walk back up the white sandy beach to PCH. Huntington Beach Brewing is on the second floor of a building that is situated a block in from the Pier and beach front at the crossroads of Main Street and Walnut Avenue. The discrete entrance is located on Main Street, and a short trip up a flight of stairs brings you out into a small open area. Lots of HBBC paraphernalia are on display in a couple of wooden cupboards at the top of the stairs. Here you will also find a Surfadelic large grainy picture with the words “P ease seat yourself”….the “L” seems to have been lost at some time in the past.

Tables work off to your left, enclosed in an area that is darkened, close to this there is a door that leads out onto an open air balcony which houses six or seven tables, enough room for twenty or so people. This is where we decided to sit. But off to the right the bar sits against the back wall and works back down what is a rather small interior.

Our party of four took a table right on the outside balcony and we had a fine view of the beach, pier and the gorgeous ruby sunset. However we all noted the new construction work off to our right which may very well destroy the balcony view in future.

Beer range is very staid; Hefe Red and a Pale, though we decided to try the Special which was the Rye Beer…it turned up in Pitchers and tastes like a Dunkel Weizen, pretty drinkable and a tasty treat, so much so we that we ordered a second Pitcher. That said, the beer range is pretty dire and the quality of the other brews is at the very least questionable.

Service was curt, a healthy does of “I’m busy” mixed with a trademark Huntington Beach brevity, far from welcoming or warming but it never left us hanging. The service was very functional, the servers busy and courteous yet I couldn’t help but feel that the overall level of honesty was low, they seemed to look at the punters and decide the level of wealth, and hence tip, and act accordingly.

What to say, Huntington Beach. Parking sucks, the gorgeous people suck, the general wealth of the area sucks, the beaches and surfing rule, I do love the down to earth “real” surfer dudes but I hate the middle aged have all the gear rich surfer middle men. In short, I both love and hate Huntington Beach. The Huntington Beach Brewing Company also falls into this love/hate relationship, it has a special location ……but not much else, worth popping in though.
