I really love People's and I knew this would be good.
A - Deep brown color that is ruby in the light. Small white head with fine bubbles that subsides quickly. Very clear for a Belgian beer.
S - Pretty rich smell with some of the typical Belgian yeast spice character, a pleasant dark fruit character, and a rich maltiness that is sweet and caramel forward.
T - Initially the sweet flavors hit the tongue with tons of malt, caramel, and raisins. Followed shortly after by the Belgian spice character along with some esters that give great depth of flavor. On the back end is some bitterness from hops to help the full sweetness but only slightly. There is not very much alcohol and definitely smooth over the tongue. Overall on the sweet side but complex and easy going down.
M - Full to medium mouth-feel. Light carbonation. With all of the sweetness the beer does somewhat linger but the flavors are robust and complex which doesn't make the stickiness detracting.
Overall, a very delicious beer. I really liked the sweeter, more malt/caramalt forward, nature of this beer because the Belgian character only compliments and doesn't steal the show. I would prefer it to be slightly more balanced with such a sticky mouth-feel but I really enjoyed this beer. I would strongly recommend this to everyone with such a light Belgian profile and amplitudes of flavor this would make a great first Belgian for anyone.
