I hope the bottle that I am reviewing is old, because I'm not impressed at all. There is faintness of goodness, but just faintness. I received this in a BIF, so I have no idea on the freshness.
Poured from bottle into a tulip. Appearance is lacking a lot, no head, no lacing. Color is amber in color, and that is it. Nothing else to note.
Smell? non existent, not even a faint smell of hops or any other aroma.
Taste, very muted hop flavor at the very end. Tastes extremely thin, no other characteristic to note.
Mouthfeel, was not enjoyable. Especially for an IPA.
Overall, do not like the version that I am reviewing. Will give it another shot in hopes in getting a fresher bottle.

NYD, just do yourself a favor and stay away from people’s stuff. Taste is just very sub par on this one. You like so many IPAs better than this one. Get those instead at the store or restaurant. If at a restaurant and no other micros are available... Get water. It’s healthy and won’t disappoint you.

Received as an extra in a recent trade. Visited this Indiana brewery last month, and was looking forward to trying this one.
Poured from 12oz bottle into imperial pint glass.

Aroma: Pine needles, pineapple, green peas (oddly enough), and some sweet honey.

Appearance: When I popped the cap, there was hardly any hiss whatsoever, and upon pouring this one into the glass, my fears were confirmed. A hard pour yields hardly any head, with no retention either. Body is hazy copper-amber.

Flavor: Again, the canned green peas are there again. I believe this is a combo between hop flavor and a possible DMS issue. The beer has very strong bitterness for an IPA. Not sure whether this is a batch issue or a brewer issue. Based on the beers that I tried during my recent visit, I'm definitely leaning toward a batch issue.

Mouthfeel: Very low carbonation, as mentioned above. Almost completely flat. Medium body. Hops are drying to the tongue.

Overall: Definitely a disappointment. I'll give this one another shot at some point, because I'd heard some great things about it from some BA friends. I had a great experience at People's, and want them to be better than this.

A: Clear amber, reddish color. Absolutely no head when poured; none when swirled either.

S: Pretty good smell; citrus and bread.

T: Very bitter and a bit acidic. Off the start is bit watery and then like the smell. Long finish, but goes bad after a couple seconds. After quite a while almost goes a bit like vomit.

M: Pretty average.

D: The alcohol is fine, but the taste prevents drinking more than like two.

12oz bottle from zrab11 (thanks man!). No identifiable bottle date. Served in a Southern Tier snifter.

Pours murky russet orange with one and a half finger near white head. A good bit of lace.

Smells like a hop biscuit. Plenty of piney and earthy hops backed by a noticeable malt sweetness.

No suprises in the taste, given how it smells. Very malt forward for an IPA with sweet bread, biscuit, pine, flower petals, a tad of garlic, a little pepper and bitter citrus peel. Quite bitter overall despite the malts.

Medium slick feel with quite a bit of carbonation. Long, dry, bitter finish.

In my opinion, Mound Builder is a mislabled red ale. From appearance to aroma to flavor, this is not what is expected for an IPA. Don't get me wrong- it's not bad at all but rated "to style" it can't hang. I would have given it much better ratings as a red.

Bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a moderate off-white head on it. Nose is a little grassy, but does not have a lot of hop character to it. Taste is a little bit bitter, but not overly so, and has a strong malt backbone to it. Not a huge fan of this...

A - Golden, slight head that dissipates quickly with a little lacing

S - American hops. Grapefruit and citrus.

T - Not much malt to back up the hops. I love hops, but that's all this is.

M - This is where this beer fails. Way too watery for the style. This may be good if it had any malt backbone to support the hops.

D - Light body would make putting down several of these easy, but why bother when it's at the low end of taste for an IPA.

12oz bottle poured into a conical pint glass.

L: nice coppery color, cloudy, minimal head. Lacing remains after the glass is empty.

S: Smells strong, almost spicy.

T: Tastes really bitter and strong to me.

F: Thin, lightly carbonated.

The bitterness of the beer overwhelmed anything else for me. Sorry, not a fan.
