Quelque Chose
Unibroue
Quelque Chose was launched in January 1996. This versatile beer was specifically developed as a winter beer because, when warmed to 70ºC (160ºF), it can be taken as a hot drink. On the other hand, on the rocks, it is a wonderful aperitif. The cherries are soaked for months in slightly bitter ale before being blended into the beer. Quelque Chose is made with dark roasted malts, and the end result is something commonly known as an authentic nectar. The most original of the Unibroue line, it is highly appreciated by winter-sports enthusiasts.

A - Poured a ruby red into a goblet. As the bottle promised, very little carbonation. Normally, I would want to take off points, but since it's supposed to have little carbonation....
S - A juicy sour cherry. Cinnamon makes itself known a bit.
T - Big on cherry Jolly Ranchers. I want to say lambic-like, but not really, more of a cross between a kriek and a wine cooler. I now understand how this could actually take ice cubes, or be served hot.
F - Tough call here. It's nearly flat, but it's supposed to be.
D - I appreciate what Unibroue is trying to do here, though to be sure it isn't an everyday drinker. It's an easy 8% ABV.

Corked shared bottle at local tasting, bought at Ølbutikken (or was it Høkeren?), Copenhagen, may 2011. Sampled first cold, then hot. Auburn colour, no carbonation. Strong aroma of cherries, almonds, spices / spiced chutney and mulled wine. Sweet flavour, notes of cherries, spices and mulled wine. Better cold than hot. A pity there is no carbonation (bad idea).

Thanks to Matt for this. The bottle was a little too old, even though the BB reads 2021. An interesting flavor to say the least.

I've had this beer for quite while...not sure how long. Unfortunately, no brewed date on the bottle, only a "best by" date of 2021. While I appreciate having that date, having the date it was made would also be handy. I suspect mine might have been better if it was fresher.
Pours ruby red with light brown hints. No head. No carb rising. Clear.
Aroma is musty, cherries, funky background aroma that I can't quite place.
Taste is cherries. Cloyingly sweet.
Mouthfeel is lightly dry. Mildly cleansing. Light mouthfeel.
Overall, nothing offensive but nothing that makes me want to drink another...or even finish this 750 ml. Too bad.

Unfortunately, i never had the opportunity to try this beer fresh.
Cracked open with a best by date of 2025, this beer was seriously flat - which was too bad because I imagine it would be pretty great if it were fully carbed up.
Taste is great - sweet, a little tart, with some nice depth of character. Cherry flavors are there, but there is some dark fruit character, too.
Also, this is a beautiful deep pink color that is really just great.
