As its name suggests, Éphémère is an ephemeral ale that comes and goes with the seasons. It was developed as a series to feature a seasonal fruit in a refreshing, lightly spiced white ale. The label depicts a fairy, an ephemeral spirit associated with fruits picked at the peak of ripeness during each harvest season. She first appeared in the spring of 2001 and has since been celebrated on a variety of seasonal fruit ales such as apple (brewed all year long), cranberry, blackcurrant, peach, raspberry and blueberry.

Seasonal beer offered for a limited time only. It offers a fresh ripe pear taste intensified by a spicy finish that quickly appealed to many Canadians.

750 ml bottles (2x: 18 months separation) served in a goblet.

Pours with a slightly hazy, pale amber body. It’s topped by a sizable but fizzy and short-lived head.

Fruity and lightly funky aroma.

Flavor: Plenty of pear flavors although the flavor does change quite a bit from the initial hit on the tongue to mid-taste and again to the finish. More tart than bitter with minimal sweetness.

Lively high carbonation and near medium body.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a fair burnt yellow to pale orange color with a slight transparency about it. Quickly dissipating finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Not much lace, seemed sliding fairly quick.
The aroma had the sweet pear flesh up front. some grassy notes and then a biscuit-sweet maltiness underneath.
The flavor had the pear flesh up front again - sweet and pushing back the grassy notes and the biscuit notes further. Mild aftertaste of pear.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a fine sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt on par. Mild pear to biscuit finish.
Overall, mostly a "pear beer" and would be a good one to bring in Summer if I would come back to this.

A nice belgian wheat ale with a subtle pear taste. Serve it cold outside during the summer. This ephemere is one of the best i have tried. Not sweet and quite easy to drink, various pear flavors meld well with the peppery belgian yeast.

The BB dating on this is a little unclear. This may have a little age on it as it has a different dating system that obvious newer bottles. Nonetheless the soft pear aroma is present and it doesn't seem to hold any obvious oxidation notes in taste or scent. Subtly spicy in the drink and very smooth even with high carbonation. Pear is less evident in taste but it is there and pleasant too.
Nice full head and glowing darker yellow body that is somewhat cloudy.
This is nice, but I bet a certainly fresh bottle would be even nicer.
Goes well with a early spring evening.
As it warmed I was able to identify some oxidation. Not overpowering but enough to recognize it is not as fresh as it should be.

Poured a clear, golden yellow color with a small, thin head of foam. It smelled of pear juice. It tasted like a lot of pear. Maybe too much. It was light bodied and smooth.

Is... does this mean I've had all the varieties of Ephemere? Don't think I'm missing any.

Anyhow, this is a newer variant, but if you've had any of the others you know the drill: this is a medium-strength, full bodied Belgian wit flavored with fruit. The fruit is real fruit, and therefore fainter than you might expect.

The pour is fizzy and cloudy. Aroma is dominated by peppery Belgian yeast with some spice complexities. Smoother than the other variants, but also more complex.

Tastes like it smells: spicy yeast is present throughout , with wheatmalt pepper balancing really nicely against honey and pears. Subtle and crisp throughout, but still interesting every step of the way.

On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. As a big Unibroue fan I'm always interested in the Ephemere seies This is one of the most assertive in fruit flavor. Anticipating a sweetness that never arrived I still was not disappointed. Not too sweet, but enough to say it's sweet. The solid Belgian ale is underneath lending a solid base. The color is an orange hued golden with a nice gentle head with no lacing character. The flavor unfolded as it warmed to a well balanced sweet/bitterness. Needs cheese.

Had a 12oz bottle of this yesterday (30JUL16) out in The 'Zebo... Gift from daughter Caitlin from a trip to Quebec...

Poured a medium golden hue, with a touch of haze. Had a healthy, 1" topping of smooth, creamy white foam. The head ebbed slowly, leaving some lace here and there. Had a wheaty, crisp, dry aroma, with mild notes of pear detected. Body was about medium, and it had a light amount of prickle present.

Taste mimicked the nose, being wheaty, dry and crisp. Lightly fruity, with pear, some green apple and melon hitting the palate. I picked up a hint of a spicy, yeasty character in the finish. Seemed like a scaled down version of a Tripel, and it went down quite refreshingly on a hot summer day. Prosit!

Appearance: Poured with two fingers of head that didn't lace or retain. The body is a slightly cloudy yellow with low carbonation.

Smell: A mild touch of pear juice backed to mild wheat malt. Warmning help brings out the pear.

Taste: Starts with a mild pear taste which turns into a fruity wheat malt with minor banana notes.

Mouthfeel: Mild carbonation but it helps the entire beer and the transistioing is decent. Mild wheat malt aftetaste.

Drinkability: Refreshing and mild, excellent for summer drinking but the pear taste isn't quite as appealing as more citrus like wheat beers. Still a nice change of pace.

Final Thoughts: A little short on this review, to summerize, slightly different and while certainly it does a pear beer well, I'd rather drink perry if I wanted pear and a Wit if I wanted a mild summer drinker. Still pretty solid.
