Éphemère (Framboise)
Unibroue
As its name suggests, Éphémère is an ephemeral ale that comes and goes with the seasons. It was developed as a series to feature a seasonal fruit in a refreshing, lightly spiced white ale. The label depicts a fairy, an ephemeral spirit associated with fruits picked at the peak of ripeness during each harvest season. She first appeared in the spring of 2001 and has since been celebrated on a variety of seasonal fruit ales such as apple (brewed all year long), cranberry, blackcurrant, peach, raspberry and blueberry.
Seasonal beer offered for a limited time only. Its blast of raspberry flavor is supported by crisp acidity and a dry finish which quickly appealed to many Canadians.

Hazy salmon colour. Pale off-white head quickly recedes to a thin cap. Spotty lace. Raspberry, citrus, and coriander notes in the delicate aroma. Light doughy malt flavour with raspberry and coriander notes. Faintly tart mid-palate. Not sweet. Abrupt finish. Light bodied with an abundance of fine carbonation. Feels spritzy but not sharp. A decent witbier with decent raspberry flavouring, that benefits from not being overly sweet.

Tastes very strongly of artificial raspberry flavor. Strong enough that the bar had to replace the beer line when the keg was done because they couldn't get it the flavor out of the line. Unpleasant and did not finish the 1/2 pint pour.

Pours a hazy, salmon-coloured body with a finger of head that quickly decays. The aroma has citric wheat malt and light raspberry notes, with a bit of tartness as well. The taste starts on the tongue with some soft sweetness, leading to tartness and fruitiness in the middle of the tongue, along with a fairly unbalanced bitterness at the back, which I can't say I'm a fan of. The feel is fairly nice and light, a signature to the style. Overall an okay beer, but not the style I would jump for again.

341ml bottle, extracted from the current Unibroue mixed pack - nice to finally be able to try this Éphemère variant.
This beer pours a hazy, medium salmon amber colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, finely foamy, and fizzy pale pink head, which leaves a low wash of surface tension lace around the glass as it very lazily recedes.
It smells of fresh, estery raspberries, gritty and grainy wheat malt, subtle earthy yeast, and tame leafy and floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy pale malt, some lesser grainy wheatiness, a more mixed dark fruitiness than that of the nose (raspberries still represent well, of course), ephemeral (sorry) yeast, and more gentle leafy, weedy, and perfumed floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite thorough in its probing and party-seeking frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and not really all that smooth, as those pervasive bubbles just don't know when to give it a rest. It finishes off-dry, the cereal-esque base malt holding tight, as the raspberries and their verdant friends go sailing by.
Overall, an easy-drinking (once that heady effervescence tones down) fruit beer, with one of my favourite summer seasonal berries playing adjunct. Maybe put this into the big 750ml vessels, and I'd have something to happily sip away at while grilling burgers on my currently sunny-ass deck.

341ml bottle poured into tulip 29/5/16
A murky peachy salmon, yeast everywhere and a tornado of bubbles moving it all around like a snow globe, two fingers of almost pink foam sinks fairly fast leaving no lace
S nose is all raspberry, tart and jammy at the same time, faint yeast and some dry cereal and floral notes, its simple but decent
T reminds me of Cap'n Crunch Berries with the cereal and sweet fruit, don't pretend like you don't know what they taste like either
M light bodied and a little explosive upon entry, foams up in a big way, I might be swallowing more gas then liquid
O Its not great but the most important parts are pretty solid, not the best Ephemere but something I could drink on a hot day
I know I tend to rate higher then the BA average but I'd say this ones overall BA score is a little low. My wife loved it so she doesn't argue when I want a Unibroue mixed pack.
