Blanche De ChamblyBlanche De Chambly
Notes: The Blanche de Chambly label features the icon of the city where it is brewed: Fort Chambly. It was converted from a wooden barricade used for fighting against the Iroquois in the middle of the XVII century into a stone fortress to combat the British army at the beginning of the XVIII century.
With notes of dried orange peel and coriander seeds, this brew is a worthy representative of classic Belgian-style white wheat beers.

To date, it has won more than 34 international medals, including being named “The World’s Best White Beer" on numerous occasions. Unibroue is proud to brew the most popular white beer in Quebec.

Presentation: 12oz brown twist with a foiled top, freshness date.

Appearance: Cloudy pale yellow with a frothy white lace.

Smell: Light whiff of dehydrated fruit and sweet spices.

Taste: Very crisp with a light to medium body, the crispness cradles the mild hop bitterness and the dry grain flavour. Soon after a peppery spiciness follows as well as a slight fruit flavour from the yeast. An underlying dried orange peel flavour lingers into the dry finish with some coriander.

Notes: Part of the yeast was spilled into this sample ... it really added an other complexity to this brew. Not a bad White Ale to be had here, definitely closer to a Belgian White Ale than most American breweries have come. 5% abv.

Overall OK beer, good simple refreshing taste but too much carbonation and the smell is on the negative side which takes away some of the enjoyment from drinking it.

Purchased at the LCBO as part of a mixed 6pk. Served at 4deg C in a tulip.

A- Opens well and pours a high white head that lasts and lasts. Unfiltered

S- Very good. Every bit as good as Hoegaarden.

T- Very good. Lots of yeast. Good white beer. Good aftertaste

M- Very good but very carbonated. Other than that it could use a touch more creaminess.

O- Very good white beer. It's fantastic on tap too.

Food Pairing

This wonderful white went well with..... Fish tacos!!

I had this on draught at a baseball game. It was served in a 16 oz. plastic cup. It poured a hazy straw color with a frothy, egg-white head and lacing. It smelled of yeast, wheat biscuit, floral hops, coriander, and clove. It has a classic Wit taste of yeast, wheat, coriander, clove, and citrus including a hint of tangerine. It's a nice, light beer with moderate carbonation and with an ABV of only 5% it is very easy to drink. It is a perfect beer to savor while enjoying a summer sporting event.

Pale yellow in the glass with a fine head. Bright citrus notes. Medium bodied, crisp, spice on the finish. Unibroue produces some of my favorite beers. Blanche De Chambly is perfect for warmer weather with an ABV that won't put you to bed before sunset.

--came in a large 12oz brown botle.
--poured a cloudy, lemony in color. nice frothy head that lasted and had some good lacing.
--sweet smell, almost fruit like

This was my first foray into Unibroue and will not be my last. Although I liked this beer I think that their is better to come from this brewer. Nothin bad to say but I am excited to try some of the others as I have had better in this style.

Drank this beer at Twain's in Decatur, GA. I poured this beer from a bottle into a Unibroue tulip glass.

A - Pours a fizzy pale yellow-off white with a big foamy white head atop it. The head lasted for about 1/2 the beer and left good lacing.

S - A bit of a fruity and spicy smell, ranging from lemon to orange with cloves and cinnamon.

T - A nice creamy, spicy and wheat flavor. This is a very nice witbier. It has a good finish and a bold and pleasant flavor.

M - Highly carbonated, medium mouthfeel with creaminess to it.

D - One of the best witbiers I've had. I finally have another to add to my list of favorites for this style. The others are: Hoegaarden, Blue Moon, and Wittekerke.

750ml corked and caged bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a surprisingly clear medium golden color with a couple fingers of fizzy white foam that leaves behind trace amounts of lacing on the glass.

S - Very fruity aroma...I'd almost say cidery - really getting lots of apples in here - cinnamon apples, grapes - a bit winey and some cloves. Not exactly what I was expecting out of this style, but an interestingly unique take on it.

T - Quite different from the expectations I have from the aroma. Still fruity, white wine-ish, fairly dry, lingering spices especially the cinnamon. Really don't get any apples in the flavor and the cidery aspects disappear totally. Understated malt base that provides some bread dough/yeasty combination.

M - Thin in body...carbonation is prickly and of average intensity. Turns cidery again as it warms up more and this becomes especially noticeable on the finish.

O - For me, this is a disappointment. I really like this style and was hoping for a bit more of a brewery of this quality and reputation. This doesn't even approach Belgian examples or Allagash White (my benchmark beer for the style)

From the bottle: Medium yellow w/ a bright white head. Good lacing on the glass. The orange peel and coriander are front and center here. Pleasantly balanced between those and the beers wheaty background. Thoroughly enjoyed it...well worth the coin.

Appearance: Dense head, hazy light orange.

Smell: Sharp perfumy citrus rind.

Taste: Strong taste of cloves and a very perfumy lemony acidity.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, soft zesty carbonation.

Drinkability: Very refreshing but there are better examples of the style.

poured into duvel tulip

A: pours golden straw, with a three finger white head which leave a little lace.
S: wheat and a light sweet malt, a touch of yeast funk.
T: sweet wheat with a light hop bitterness and citrus. also a bit of yeast partly due to over pour, have a tendency to like the yeast flavor in witbier.
M: light and smooth, somewhat high carbonation.
D: very easy with the light flavors and clean mouth feel.

Review from notes. Had on tap at the Pickled Pig.

A: The beer is a hazy straw/yellow color with a small white cap of a head on top, minimal lacing.

S: A light aroma of wheat, citrus, lemon, orange, and a hint of spice.

T: Light citrus fruit up front, mostly lemon and orange, with a little bit of Belgian spice.

M: Light to medium bodied, easy drinking and smooth. Slightly dry finish.

O: Not bad, but nothing amazing. An easy drinking witbier, but a little tame IMO.
