La Fin Du Monde
Unibroue
La Fin du Monde was developed through 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

A simple 12oz. bottle with a nice colorful oval label of the Quebec providence of Canada. If you already didn't know the name it French means "the end of the world." A nice name for a beer that I'm having on 6-6-06. It's too bad that the name really doesn't mean the complete end of the world. The name is actually reference to the early explorers who thought this region was actually the end of the world. The back label had information about the beer, correct glassware, Govt. warning, and a Best Before Date above the barcode. My BB date is 1-31-09. The twist off cap was covered with silver foil. Nice looking bottle!
Appearance: When I popped the cap, the foam was almost jumping out of the bottle. I had to quickly pour it into my Snifter glass or it would go all over the place. The beer itself was a hazy golden orange color with a massive head of foam. I couldn't pour all of the 12oz. into the glass because it was so massive. The head of foam was a nice fluffy white color and left behind loads of rings and plenty of white sticky lace in its tracks. If that wasn't enough you can see little yeast fragments floating around the glass. I can't say enough good things about the appearance!
Smell: It had a nice aroma of spicy juicy fruits, little hops, and with some yeast and alcohol in the background. For some reason the smell wasn't jumping at me like the head of foam was. Still very nice.
Taste: I thought that since it had a 9% ABV that it would have a strong alcohol presence, but it really didn't. It was very juicy up front, then some spices and cloves come through, then a small taste of yeast, and then at the end, just a small presence of alcohol shines through. All of these flavors are balanced quite nicely! Excellent Taste!!!
Mouthfeel: It was very creamy, carbonated, smooth, and with an aftertaste of some fruits and yeast. Even though this had a high ABV%, I really couldn't feel at it.
Drinkability: Excellent beer and must try! The best part is that every good beer store would have some in stock! I could have another one and I'm betting that this beer would really sneak up on you after a few!

Picked a can of this up from downtown grocery in Wausau, WI before heading home today. I was instantly drawn to the beautiful color of this can. The smell is really pleasant, but the taste really threw my off at first. To me, it initially tasted like green olives, but as I got used to it, it tasted more like a hefeweizen. Overall a really good, hard hitting beer that will sneak up on you.

Pours a bright orange - gold with lot of head and lacing, be ready with that glass! Tastes like funk (horse blanket), banana, clove, a little pepper, spicy, dry. Not quite as good as Westmalle but it’s a very good beer and the price is right, cheers!
