La Fin Du Monde
Unibroue

La Fin du Monde was developed through 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

The colour is orange-pale brown-yellow. The liquid is somewhat cloudy. The foam is at first enormous (almost like a Duvel), but it slowly sinks down to a finger thick uneven head without much lacing.
The smell is fruity with notes of spices and sweet malt. Oh, I like it! There are notes of bitter citric fruits, oat cookies, herbs (Basilica? Cloves?), brown sugar, spring flowers and a gentle sour note. Like a Hoegaarden Wit with extra everything!
Do I dare to taste? Oh yes. Wheat, yeast, herbs, sourness, bitter hops, citric fruits. And everything just works out great! Lots of Belgian flavours, with a particular flavour if bitter oranges and wheat ale. But, although there are lots of flavours and alcohol like a weak wine, it is very drinkable and not heavy at all. Impressive stuff. The loooong aftertaste is fruity with some hoppy flavours, wheat flour, tangerines and some matured strong wine.
The carbonation is strong (but quickly fading) with small bubbles. It tickles your tounge, but it is in no way sharp.
A truly great beer, and a great Belgian beer from Canada?Boyam I pleasantly surprised!

Pours a bright orange - gold with lot of head and lacing, be ready with that glass! Tastes like funk (horse blanket), banana, clove, a little pepper, spicy, dry. Not quite as good as Westmalle but it’s a very good beer and the price is right, cheers!

The pour is copper colored with a thick & foamy white head. The taste is baked biscuit, banana, clove, honey, & slight caramel. The 9% abv is hidden well. This is a good beer, but I don't think it's world class. Cheers! A-

Re-reviewing because it’s been a dozen years since I last reviewed this.
16oz can (date code A2623, so packaged 1/26/2023) into a Hennepin glass. Pours a beautiful glowing deep golden color with a nice fluffy bright white head.
Aroma is funky and bready, grassy. Yeasty esters, clove, spice. Overripe fruit. Banana bread.
Taste is sweet, fruity, funky. More bready yeast (or yeasty bread), malty sugars, spice. Old World hops. Some residual grain. A vaguely bitter, clean finish.
Mouthfeel is soft, smooth, full bodied. Reference-level carbonation. Exemplary for the style.
Overall this is still one of my favorite Belgian tripels—La Fin Du Monde never disappoints.

12oz bottle, best before 7/9/12, poured into a tulip.
Golden yellow beer w/ a huge bright white head that defies gravity, leaves behind a beautiful film of lace.
Nose is all Belgian yeast, clean pale malt, and slight alcohol.
Taste is just so smooth. Pale malt, sweet candi sugar, overripe banana, and a slight warming from the alcohol.
Mouthfeel is luxurious, so seductively smooth and drinkable.
Overall, an outstanding version of the style. This beer would be a perfect pairing with so many foods, strong enough to stand up to anything but never dominant. Just a world-class beer that I think anyone would enjoy.
