La Fin Du MondeLa Fin Du Monde

Brewed by:
Quebec, Canada

Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
La Fin du Monde was developed through 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

I've been drinking this beer for a while. I had to acquire the Belgian taste, but I'm hooked. I bought a sampler 12-pack of Unibroue (La Fin Du Monde, La Gaillarde, Blonde de Chambly, Blanche de Chambly) in Montreal for $16, can you believe that price. Amazing! Now for the review. Poured into a tulip from a 341mL bottle.
A: Golden yellow, 1 1/2 fingers of white 'pillow' head, great retention, lots of lacing, champagne bubbles, clear. The head of this beer makes it really stand out in appearance.
S: Spices, floral, light fruit (apple, pear), yeast and lots of it.
T: Spices, clove, slight apple, sweet honey, and yeast...lot of it
M: Crisp, dry finish, sticky, medium almost heavy body. The body is very nice once the beer warms a little bit.
O: Great beer, Unibroue does the best Belgian style beers outside of Belgium. It's amazing how they can distribute throughout Canada and parts of the US and Europe and still have this great taste. Will I buy this again? Absolutely.

I really like this beer. The pour is quite light and yellowish. The smell is very clear with dominate fruits at its core. The taste was one of the best I've had. It is quite smooth, and despite 9% alcohol, it doesn't overwhelm the beer. The fruitiness (orange? apricot?) is very pleasant. There are also a slight caramel malt taste to it. Overall, those folks up in Quebec done did it good.
