La Fin Du MondeLa Fin Du Monde

Brewed by:
Quebec, Canada

Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
La Fin du Monde was developed through 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

Obtained from a Sommelier Selection six pack of Unibroue beers. This was the crown jewel of the pack. I had no idea I was in possession of the top-rated Tripel on all of BA in this bottle until recently. Side poured with standard vigor from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy yellow color with a nice, two finger pillowy white head that sticks around for a minute but leaves little lacing. Nothing special about the packaging. Heavy carbonation action can be seen in the bubbles inside the glass.

Smell - Smells wonderful, like a big, yeasty fruit bomb. All tripel, all the way.

Taste - The taste is very layered, with the initial creamy smoothness of breads and yeast followed with a slight fruitiness in the middle. Apricots, a little banana, and other fruits are all present on the palate. An excellent drink. There is a hint of alcohol, but nothing overwhelming. Just enough to let you know its there.

Mouthfeel - Finishes smooth and creamy, with pretty substantial carbonation.

Overall - I can see why this beer is so highly deserves it. Excellent from the time it is poured into your glass until the last drink. Highly recommended, I will buy and drink this again. This is a strong candidate for one of the best beers I've ever had, and I wouldn't be ashamed to show up at any beer party with this in tow.

A: Nice light golden color. Hazy with a big head with a good dynamic of bubbles.

S: Pinapple, peach, lemon, orange, grass, wheat. Very nice.

T: As with the smell it is very complex. All the same tastes as listed above but the finish pretty nice. There is a little must like with most tripels but it is overshadowed by fruity flavors. Also a good sweetness.

M: Very bubbly. While not being overwhelming it has a bit of a rough feel to it. Otherwise sits pretty good with a light medium body.

Overall a very nice showing. Certainly shines above most tripels. It's pretty widely available and worth checking out.
