La Fin Du MondeLa Fin Du Monde

Brewed by:
Quebec, Canada

Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
La Fin du Monde was developed through 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

I am somewhat new to the triple scene, about a year or so. I have tried about 40 triples and this is by far the best to date. I keep hearing there are places that serve this on tap in my area (MN) but I have yet to find them. I recommend La Fin Du Monde to everyone I know.

This is my favorite beer by far.

Poured a 12-ounce bottle into a Mad Elf tulip glass. Pours golden- pretty much a standard appearance for a tripel. Aroma is extremely fruity; almost overwhelming. The taste almost completely matches the aroma- such an aggressive spiciness to this beer that it borders on perfumy. Overall a decent beer fr an excellent Canadian brewery, but probably on the average end of beers I've had in this style in my opinion. When I go for a Unibroue brew I go for Maudite- I find it so much better.

I've had this beer so many times but never reviewed it. This time I had it at a annual party at Capital City Club Atlanta, GA.
From bottle into Flute glass (its apparently all they had)

Appearance: Pours lightly hazy, pale orange body with a 1 inch white head.

Smell: Strong malt smell with fruit tone, plum, pear, raisins, a dark Belgian typical.

Taste: Sweet hit with a blend of the fruit smells in the taste. A counterbalance of spices, bitterish orange peel, and hops against the sweetness of the fruit and malt. Very crisp finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. With medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Always a winner, great Belgian tripel from Canada.

It pours a very light golden, honey orange; pretty cloudy with tons of carbonation running up the sides, like sparkling wine. Wooh.

It smells very nice, but not TOO complex. If you'd had any Unibroue before, you can detect that house yeast among anything else. But the taste is much more complex!

Slightly tart and fizzy on the tongue and it goes down smooth, with some yeast and breadiness on the end. A very very slight bit of heat coming through, but no taste of actual alcohol.

Overall this is a winner. Nothing too out of the box, but exactly to the style with that classic Unibroue yeast quality to it.
