Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
La Fin du Monde was developed through 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

From Saveur-Biere. In La Trappe chalice. Watching Los Soprano 6x02. Had great expectations and didnt dissapoint. Perfect tripel. All typical notes of the style perfectly assembled. Superb aroma. Found myself enjoying it just by its aroma. Abv very well hidden. Left me wanting more

Pours a lovely golden amber color with a huge foamy head. I poured gently on the side of the glass and the foam is still insane! It makes interesting shapes as it recedes. As I pour the bottom of the bottle, sediment makes its way into my glass. Not a great deal of lacing, thick where present.

Aroma is cloves, bread, and sweet fruit tones (banana, possibly apricot) as is typical of a Belgian style tripel. Smells just slightly boozy.

Tastes a bit more bitter than I was expecting. Not too fruity, definitely taste clove and bread with a hint of sweetness. Does not hide the 9% ABV.

Feel is light and dry but somewhat malty on the finish. Carbonation is pretty high.

Overall, a really good beer. Not something I would drink regularly but definitely worth picking up every now and then when you want a unique (and relatively affordable) triplel.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass

Appearance | 4.5 |

This ale pours a cloudy orange-caramel color with a large, mountainous white head that has wonderful retention. A one finger head still rests in the bottom of my glass some time after the beer has been finished.

Smell | 4 |

Spices and fruit on the nose, especially orange and banana with some clove.

Taste | 4.5 |

Banana flavors are present but not quite as dominant as I have experienced in other Belgian beers. Other flavors include the same spices and clove that were present in the aroma. Flavors are complex yet balanced. Alcohol is masked but warming as you drink.

Mouth feel | 4.5 |

The feel is full bodied, smooth, and with medium carbonation. Overall, a very pleasant mouth feel.

Overall | 4.5 |

This beer ranks among my favorite Belgians. I enjoyed the entire drinking experience, start to finish. I love that it's complex yet balanced and approachable. This one is well-deserving of it's outstanding scores.

Fun Du Monde has the strongest, most intense "Belgian" aroma of bubblegum, cloves and banana that I've ever encountered in a beer.

Mouthfeel is a bit too "digestible" for me (too much lights Belgian candy sugar to lighten the body?), but other than that it's a consistent, classic, perfect example of a Tripel. Taste is sweet and refreshing, not much bitterness or maltiness. Just a clean palate for showcasing the character of Belgian yeast.

This is a great tripel with nice bready and malty aromas and a taste that exemplifies the style. Looks good and has an ample amount of carbonation. Leaves a nice fruity, malty feel at the end

Poured from a 12 oz bottle, bb 12/18/17 into my St. Bernardus chalice. 9% ABV. The beer ranges from copper to gold with the light. Somewhat hazy but I poured the whole bottle aggressively. A half inch of white head fades to nothing but a thin ring with no lacing. Smell is slightly sweet and a little floral from the hops. Taste follows the smell. Mouthfeel is smooth and yet lively with carbonation. Overall, one of the best tripels on earth. I especially appreciate the subdued spice where other tripels are dominated by spice.
