Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
La Fin du Monde was developed through 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

This is my go-to Tripel-style beer. Widely available yet top-shelf quality, a must-have for any fan of Belgian style ales.

Look: Pours golden with one-finger head which rapidly dissipates to thin lacing. A slow pour yields a much more minimal head with slightly better retention.

Smell: Grass, malt, yeast, tropical fruit all present up front on the nose. Very well hidden alcohol ester lingers in the sinuses.

Taste: Absolutely outstanding. Sweet tropical fruit (banana, mango), brown sugar, malt, grass, and spicy alcohol. Everything a tripel-style ought to be.

Feel: Super smooth with decent carbonation, does not feel its 9% abv at all, which makes this a rather dangerous beer indeed.

12 oz bottle best by 12-01-19 poured into a tulip glass. Pours a hazy orange with a medium large carbo release, a two finger fluffy head the slowly recedes through the glass. The aroma is of yeast, spices (coriander and pepper mainly) , and mild banana/clove. The taste follows suit, with only a slight bubblegum sweet addition to the mix. The mouthfeel is medium, carbonation is medium to medium high at the start, and mellows out as it warms. Always wanted to try this one. I like how the taste is well balanced and not quite as in your face. Recommended if you like Tripels.

I've been wanting to try this beer and I was not disappointed. Clearly the best Tripel that I've had so far. Beautifully hazy and orange tinged with a nice white head. The scent was Belgian yeast with slight spice. Where this really stands out is the flavor, there is some sweetness and the banana/clove and a wonderful spicy smooth finish. This beer has a unique distinct flavor. There's less carbonation but it's just the right amount for this brew. Creamy and smooth. This is 9%...what?? Pretty well hidden.
