OMG, I have to win the prize for review of the oldest beer. Can this really be 17+ years old? The cork breaking was not a good sign and I was thinking drain pour, but not so fast... Clear dark amber with a hint of foam from a vigorous pour. Decent aroma and flavor -- swedish with a Belgian yeastiness. Rather flat as expected, but a smidgen of effervescence. For its age, this is impressive.

Cellar aged. Very clear amber with no foam. Light fruit aroma with some honey mixed in. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Flavors of apple, honey, oak, white grapes. Sticky sweetness. Still some heat in the finish. It has white wine character, but is still a beer.

Thanks to angrybabboon for sharing the bottle. Big thanks to t0rino for the trade bottle. 10/10/2002 date.
Appearance: Slight chill haze on a slightly burnt orange color. Head is a small bright-white collar. No cap. Minimal carbonation in the pour.
Smell: Unibroue yeast. A slight funky tartness coming from underneath. Clove and banana. Vaguely peppery. Apricot, yeast, pear, and some crisp red apple. So much yeast. Some caramel and breast notes. Fruit and yeast. Did I mention it's yeasty.
Taste: Marmalade. Pear and apricot. Red apple skin. Big hit of Unibroue yeast. Clove, banana, some underlying bubblegum. Mealy fruit. Vaguely biscuity. Overcooked and caramelized malt sweetness. Building punch of yeasty clove. As it warms some crazy sweetness comes out. Sweet yeast and clove. Sugary. Almost candi sugar levels of sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Minor carbonation. Body is medium and smooth. Easy drinking. Probably the best part of the beer.
Overall: Wait, 10 years on a Unibroue beer makes it not awful? Barely.
I was 15 when this beer was released. It drinks decently, but that's about all I expect from Unibroue at this point.

Cheers to whomever sent this beer in a trade to me and Goblinmunkey7 (I should look this up later)
Note: Bottled 10/10/2002, when I was 15...
Consumed 2/8/13
Appearance: Hazy, medium amber with an off-white head - decent carbonation, even after all these years - leaves some lacing
Smell: Strangely, it's not bursting with Unibroue's signature yeast - some potent off-flavors, like solvent alcohol and acetone - but aside from that, some fruity esters like banana and apple - some spices - oxidized malts and cardboard
Taste: Well... I probably would have been better off if I drank this when I was 15 - solvent alcohol, cheap vodka, and acetone - maybe some paint fumes as well - oxidation and moldy cardboard - but there are some good flavors here, too - caramel, lightly toasted malts, bananas, and apple - some grassy and herbal malts
Mouthfeel: Medium body, lightly carbonated, sticky, feels old
Overall: Scored with a massive handicap due to the age
I would like to hope that I've aged better than this beer. Maybe it was good once, but it's probably 10 years past its prime. Interesting, at the least.
