Poured from a bottle into a Pint glass, nice golden orange color with a 2 finger head that reduced to a half finger but left wonderful lace with every sip. Aroma is straight up IIPA with hops leading the way, citrus and sugar show up as well. Taste starts sweet and goes from bitter to tang as it moves over the tongue, good citrus going on and you keep wanting another sip. A nice crisp mouthfeel with a slightly oily finish that holds the bitter tang on the back of the throat. Overall a good IIPA from Lagunitas that is easy to drink and full of flavor, easy to find as least in Lincoln, Neb.

A: Light, pumpkin color. Great, thick, persistent head.

S: Really different smell compared to most IPAs; Orange, Pineapple and Banana? Hoppy, but that's not it's strongest point--it's the high quality, subtle fruit smells.

T: Well it sure doesn't taste like Pineapple, Orange or Banana. Woody, light IPA. First taste: This is minor leagues. There just isn't the same hoppy intensity in this brew that is really needed to compete in this segment. Second taste: It's starting to liven up a bit, a little more hoppy, but it is still light for an IPA. I wouldn't call it watered down, just not very intense.

M: Sourness to flavor ratio is a little unbalanced. Still a full mouth-feel, not watered down.

O: Good effort at an IPA, but it's just too light. A light IPA is perfectly fine, but it still needs to taste complicated and interesting if it's going to take this route--and this one has not. It tastes refined, but it just isn't very interesting. Plain (but a still pleasant) basic IPA.

EDIT: This was my full review during a blind taste test.

This brew pours a semi-opaque copper color with a three finger head which lasts for some time and thick lacing which remains on the glass until the end.

The smell is strong with citrus and floral hops; mostly grapefruit and orange but also lemon and pine. The smell of caramel malts is also present.

The hops dominate the taste in the front and back, mostly grapefruit and orange taste. Caramel and roasted malts come in a little in the middle and then the taste finishes with oily hop bitterness.

The mouthfeel is relatively thick, slightly oily, there is also a tang which is probably due to the carbonation. I would not say the feel is "chewy" but it is close.

Overall this is what the label says it is; a hoppy beer which comes close to tearing your tongue off but not quite. Hopheads should give this one a try. This is another winner from Lagunitas.
