Happy to cover this RIS from a fave brewer.
A) Opaque; black with w dense little tan head that tans and laces. As it should be.

S) Sweet and floral with roasted dark malts, chocolate, coffee and hops. Stays sweet.

T) Rich and flavorful but perhaps too sweet for some. It's a late night, last beer, wine-like experience. Sweet, twisted, burnt, smokey, caramel, prune and coffee notes. Sweet up front, like a milk stout. Stays sweet in finish, but not cloying

F) Full,= thick, with light carbonation. As it should be. Syrupy, sticky.

O) Perfectly fine west coast thick RIS.

L: Dark body with a nice tan/carmel head.

S: oats and chocolate

T: not very boozy for 9.9%, chocolate, oats and barley

F: decent body, could use a hair more though.

O: all around a good fallback imperial stout, especially for the price.

L - Black hole dark void. Solid black look. Pours a hefty head in a sniffer glass that consists of a lighter brown color.

S - The weakest characteristic of this beer (for me). As others have mentioned, roasty grain complexes.

T - Definitely hints of coffee. Sweetness flavor that is reminiscent of chocolate. There is a bit of a bite in the aftertaste that is bitter.

M - Tastes nice and thick. Fulfilling mouthfuls of heavy consistency

O - Personally, I am not a strong coffee lover but this beer is solid. It tastes good enough for me to try it again.

L -- A very dark brown with a dark tan two finger head that dissipates quickly to a thin layer. No lacing
S -- Smokey malts, brown bread, plum pudding, very slight uric hint
T -- Same as smell, plus coffee and Baker's chocolate
O -- A solid, albeit not particularly creative, stout

This is one that seems to do much better at the high end of the temperature spectrum . . . not far below room temperature. Below that it has, for me, a bit of an after taste. Normally I like to start with an RIS straight from the fridge and drink it slowly as it warms and experience the change in taste . . . or perceived change in taste . . . which generally slowly improves (for me). This beer starts without the bite of some others (a plus) and it's not a pleasant journey to 55 or 60 degrees as the change happens all at once but I do very much like the destination.

A - Pours a midnight black with a one finger off white head. Light soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee.

T - The taste follows the aroma. Dark chocolate, coffee, molasses and roasted malts.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Soft creamy mouthfeel with a crisp dry finish.

O - Solid imperial stout. The flavors are nice and the alcohol is hardly noticeable.

Pours deep brown/black with a beautiful tan head. Not sweet enough for my exact tastes in an imperial stout, but for $5 a bomber and frequent availability it's a fine brew. Will keep a couple on hand to avoid dipping into my dark lord and Bourbon County stash.

From a bomber into a tulip glass. Color is where it should be. Dark brown head that looks great. Wonderful lacing. Mouthfeel spot on. Not too bitter. Not too sweet. I feel that they nailed it. Plus the price point was great. 2 bucks less than most. I love it. And I will point out that I love my stouts. Great job. Now we need a barrel aged version that cost under ten bucks.

Pours a deep, dark brown with a one inch head that left some lacing. Smells of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Taste is semi sweet chocolate, roasted malts, molasses, coffee and finishes slightly bitter. Smooth and creamy mouth feel, lightly carbonated. Excellent stout at it's price point, very good stout overall.

Man! Now if you don't enjoy this then, well.... you're no fun. This is a great imperial stout that punches well above it's weight - and price, category. It has a rambunctious 'stout' personality, that hits you in the face with character and depth you were never expecting (not least of which, is the sheer quality of this stout). Like a punky little kid, it's gonna start a riot of stout-goodness in your mouth! It doesn't just 'sit down' on your tongue. It leaves its frothy and boozy, smokey-cocoa flavor presence known, starting in your mouth and warming it's way all the way to your tummy. it's almost like a Guinness combined with a smorgasbord of rich and jumpy flavors that leaves you satisfied with the quality of the stout, yet jumps upon the tongue to leave a great lasting impression (so drink this slow, I'd hope). I believe it's the milky cocoa and roasted quality that achieves this wonderful and 'active' flavor character. Unique, and in my opinion, a stout that will hold it's own with the best of them. If you love a stout - just a good, hard, classic stout? Definitely get this one. Guinness and Jameson lovers are indeed invited to this party.

Pours an opaque dark brown color with khaki colored head. Chocolate, dark chocolate, earth tones, and some roasty notes on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied and thick. Finishes with cocoa and roast.

Nice, dark and rich. Thick creamy beige head with some clumpy lacing. Aroma is chocolate and roast grains. Taste leans more toward the chocolate side of the spectrum, with some coffee/roast grain bitterness at the tail end. No sign of the alcohol....

The beer is jet black in color with a light tan head with a 1 1/2 finger depth. The aroma is dark chocolate, espresso, dark fruits and molasses. In the taste you get a lot of milk chocolate, dark fruit and hints of molasses and vanilla. Then comes a slight roasted coffee bitterness that fades out and is overcome by a lingering sweetness. This beer has a medium body and is not very complex. This is a very good tasting beer, but not a lot of depth.

Pours a thick, sludgey opaque black with a fluffy, persistent dark khaki color head. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark roasted malts, coffee, and a touch of sweetness. Taste follows with a sweetness upfront, followed by roasted malts, dark and bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and a bit of caramel and toffee on the finish with just enough hop/coffee bitterness to balance. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, not quite chewy, although very nice for an imperial stout with this profile. Overall, this is a very good imperial stout that does well to hit the hallmarks of the style at an affordable price.

Damn good RIS.

Almost as good as old rasputin. Slightly less flavor and complexity, still one of the better stouts I've had. I'd give it number 4 behind Campfire stout, Old Rasputin, and breakwater's salted caramel. Almost a tie for third.

When you factor in the price (4.99 a bomber) it moves up to number 2 behind Old Rasputin.

From a bomber into a tulip glass.

Pour is pitch black with about 1/2 finger of light foam. The foam faded quickly with no lace left on the glass.

Smell is heavy on the roasted grain and dark chocolate. The sweet smell mutes most of the other aromas that are trying to come out.

Taste follows the nose. Very sweet roasted malt and bittersweet chocolate. Caramel and coffee complete the profile. This beer has a sharp bitterness that fades as it warms. Once the glass reached suggested temp that faded and became much more smooth and creamy.

Feel is medium/heavy with a full body and smooth finish. It was nice to see no boozyness at all from this high ABV beer.

Pours a black color. 1/5 inch head of a tan color. Smells of a roasted malt, slight sweet malt, alcohol, slight hops, hint of syrup, and a hint of grass. Fits the style of a Russian Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong sweet malt, roasted malt, dark citrus, hops, alcohol, slight wood, and a hint of grass. Overall, average appearance, feel, and aroma, but good body, blend, and complexity.

Its a bit too bitter for me to truly love this beer, but for the price, the darkness and how hard it hits it's very good, would probably make 4th on my favorites.

22oz bottle into a wine glass
Vintage 2015

A: Opaque jet black, juge 3+ fingers width of mocha colored head which dissipates very slowly and leaves lots of lacing. 4.75

S: Very roast, dark fruits, leather/tobacco, cocoa. Great balance of sweet and roasty. Wonderful nose. 4.5

T: Bittersweet cocoa, roasted malt, char. Pretty significant sweetness with a sugary/syrup-type character. Like the aroma its a great balance of sweet and toasty-char. 4.25

M/D: Very smooth, full bodied but not thick, carbonation appropriately low, ABV is very well masked and drinkability is great. 4.75

O: Honest to god, don’t think I’ve ever had a beer from Lagunitas that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. This is no different. An excellent non-BA, non-adjunct stout. I will definitely drink this one again. This beer is killer, no clue why the ratings aren't higher. 4.5

Pours a black glass with a nice creamy foam with beautiful lacing. Very appetizing beer. Nose is of toffee, caramel, coffee, roasted malts. Delightful. Similar flavors in the taste. Hoppy but not as hoppy as hop stoopid. Full bodied, smooth, and lightly carbonated. Overall a beautifully crafted brew for its style.

Throw these hipsters out the window cause i'm going to tell you what this really tastes like. I won't lie it's a complex flavor. But if you can stomach this stuff, i question your life, you are not only an alcoholic. but bored as hell. You have to be hammered off your ass not to realize that this stuff is so bitter it will leave a chill riding up your spine as soon as you drink it. It's okay, but bordering on undrinkable.

It's consistency is a thick sludge that you can feel sink to the bottom of your stomach on the first sip. If you have eaten you can almost feel the outline of the food you ate around this thick viscus drink. No, it does not taste like coffee. No it does not taste like chocolate or licorice. I don't know what kind of Dark Chocolate you've been eating but it certainly doesn't taste like this.

If i can't even get through a bottle of your beer, how am i gonna leave a good review? It just makes me wish i was drinking a guinness. You bring this to a party and the girls will run away from you, if that's your thing then congrats. You are a true manly man. 2/5

Lagunitas Imperial Stout. Pours moderately thick, nose is coffee, taste follows but a bit bitter for my taste. Bitterness mutes as it warms and is OK. Can't beat the price!

This is a rich, roasty, full-bodied beer. It is super tasty and packs a hidden punch you should expect from an Imperial Stout. At less than $5 for a bomber, this beer is an absolute bargain.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a tulip glass. This is from Lagunitas and its an Imperial so my review will be biased toward the high side. This has all the good stuff you're looking for (blackness, creamy tan head, roasty smell, thick not watery, etc) and as much as I liked it, if I had to chose between this and their Cappuccino Stout it would be the Cappuccino Stout. This was just a bit too roasty/smokey for me to love but a quality example of the style none the less.
