Brewed by:
Lagunitas Brewing Company
California, United States

Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.90%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
We took some fresh Sanguinello Blood oranges, juiced 'em, concentrated that juice (without heat) and threw it into a wheatier version of our New Dogtown Pale Ale. The end result? A refreshingly hopped pale-ish ale with a huge citrus burst!

This one hitter must have been a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to win it! Just a great brew, so very refreshing when cold on a hot summer day. Love it.

This was such a fantastic surprise when I tried it first. Loved the smell and the flavor. It isn't overly sweet which will be appealing to those who hate sweet beers.

Sweet, tart and fresh hops - really like this summer beer. Orange and grapefruit are dominant to me, but I could agree I'm tasting at least 6 other fruit flavors, this is a complex fruit beer. Highly recommend, my local is going to put it on draft next week and I cannot wait! Like someone said earlier, the sweet is up front on the first sips, but about halfway down the glass the dryness and more bitter fruits start to come on. Highly recommend.

12oz. bottle poured into a Lagunitas jar glass.

Look: Awesome hazy orange color. Fluffy white head that settles into whispy lacing.
Smell: Orange peels and hops. Made my mouth water
Taste: Juicy citrus taste. Orange rind and juice, little bit of pine.
Mouthfeel: Nice. This beer has body to it. Well carbonated. Almost an fruit juice feel.
Overall: I am so glad I was able to find a six pack of this beer. Yet another solid brew from Lagunitas. I hope they'll consider making this a regular/seasonal offering.

Lucky enough to get to try this limited-edition beer on tap; I am a big fan of many of Lagunitas' other beers. It is without a doubt one of the best APA beers I've had; lots of citrus in the smell and taste of this beer, but without the fake or overpowering effect some similar beers have. Hops are well-balanced for the style, clean and refreshing feel. An instant classic and a shame it will be gone soon.

This is such a good beer. Probably a top 3-4 beer from Lagunitas. I had it about a month ago and was lucky enough to find it again, this time in Philly. Fresh Squeezed - lite.

Look: Golden, traditional Pale Ale. Pours with a bit of a head that disappears soon after.

Aroma: Hoppy for a Pale Ale which is expected of West Coast IPAs. Also citrusy, hence the name yet not overpowering.

Taste: In a word: refreshing. Otherwise, it's much less hoppy on the tongue or just less bitter than expected. There is a hint of a floral feel and aftertaste on this one (that being a good thing).

Feel: Overall this is a juicy delicious very drinkable beer. It does not have any alcohol aftertaste for being so high in it.

The beer pours a clear pale gold with a large sustaining head. The aroma offers up crisp pineapple, lemon peel, orange peel, and grapefruit peel. It really is citrus bomb on the nose, but the underripe pineapple does mix things up. The flavor has all the same citrus components, with some added tropical notes of mango and papaya. I could mostly smell citrus peel, but the orange juice does come through more in the flavor. The mouthfeel is light and highly effervescent. Overall this was a spectacular citrus forward beer doing just what the name implied.

A - drank from the bottle and gave the appearance a 5 because i'm out of fucks
S - wow! Big orange, peach, papaya, citrus pith, orange juice, pineapple, hop resin, definitely smells of ne ipas
T - orange juice, grapefruit, peach, tangerine, clementine, papaya, pummelo, citrus pith, big juicy fruity character in general, perfect balance of fruit juice and beer - you would believe there was no fruit juice in here
M - light-medium, alc covered, aftertaste is citrus juice, pith, peach
O - jesus christ man. Great beer. Waaaay underrated. Disclaimer bottle 348 6 drank 365 6 ( 17 days old) so if your drinking it older you may get a different picture.

Got to try this beer on tap. Great look and smell. It was quite citrusy with the dry pithy taste of the blood oranges coming on the back end. Excellent clean character. The ABV is not evident as flavor outshines the alcohol. Excellent APA.

This beer is what I love in craft beer. Lagunitas is surely becoming my favorite brewery. This pale ale, feels more like something else. Just not what I expected, but at the same time it was. You get the orange sweetness, and you get so many other fruit/ipa flavors that play with the tongue.

I really enjoyed this one! I've had this on draft (it was WAY better) and I've had it from bottle. Its brewed with blood orange, if your into that, and it was very refreshing! I had it on draft and the flavor that you get blew my fragile little mind. This one hits home for me. Its definitely one my personal favorites!

What a delicous IPA. Nice and fresh. Had to decode the bottling date: 12/13/16 (it said 348, which apparently indicates the day of the year). Into a goblet:

L: Slightly copper-ish orange body with a very faint chill haze that disappears at around 60-65°F (I'm not using a thermometer, that's a guess.) and a mellow, one-finger cream colored frothy head that dissipates moderately quickly leaving neat, arched rings of lacing that linger.

S: Crisp and clean. Orange, but not just the peel, definitely some orange juice aromas, a strong sour smell, like lemons, folowed by passion fruit and red grape, definitely a little malt backbone detectable on the nose, like pizza dough, but thoroughly drowned in resiny hops.

T: Orange is first, and definitively blood orange (it has that tangy, but bittersweet blackberry-ish note that makes blood orange so good), followed by apricot, lemon, grapefruit, and saltine crackers. Super drinkable. If I wanted to introduce someone to a somewhat strong (but not double) IPA, I'd hope this was available. Simple, but well-rounded and consequently easy to like. Not likely, but I hope this gets un-limited.

F: A little bit sticky from the fresh blood orange juice. I think that's also what makes the haze in the beer. But hey, a B+ is great, considering the worldwide competition.

O: I hope this gets to be more than a one-hitter. Honestly I'd hope for that BA High-Westified even more, but this seems more likely (albeit only slightly) to get continued. Cheers!

I was sad to go back and find out they were out of it on tap at the local pub...had some pine thing IPA from oRegon...anyway...this rocks...great color... great smell..great taste...was citrusy crisp and the finish was superb. Not overpowering and ordered a second to make sure I could be an informed presenter to you today. Solid "A" from me. Glad to see they have it in bottles to find out where....adios.

This is fantastic. Like an orange version of sucks. Incredible smell and amazing juicy hoppiness. The place I found this only got in one case and they sold me 2 bottles, now I need to spend my Thursday afternoon off work looking for more before it's gone. If you see this by as many bottles as you can. It's that good.

A: poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass, light golden amber colored with a huge white head that dissipates leaving good lacing, clear

S: open a can of tropical fruit salad and you have the nose on this one, pineapple, mango, papaya, guava, orange, grapefruit, very sweet and fruity

T: the fruit taste as above is there, there is a bitterness that balances the fruity sweetness, lush and delicious, finish is a little more tart citrus with a hint of orange and lemon

M: correct for a pale ale with higher carbonation and a medium body

O: The smell of this beer is the best part. I could bury my face in it all day.

Appearance - I get a good finger of white foam with a slight golden hue to it, the body is a very hazy golden light orange, lots of active carb in the body, and a significant amount of particulates which I believe to be directly from the blood orange. Some decent lacing is left behind each quaff.

Smell - HUGE citrus explosion on the nose, especially blood orange and ruby red grapefruit, some tropical like kiwi and pineapple, and some nice floral hops round all of this out - possibly one of the best smelling pale ales ever if you love citrus, and I do.

Taste - Immediately you are hit with a mouth full of orange laden citrus - definitely get the blood orange, I'm also getting slightly under-ripe pineapple, maybe a hint of under-ripe mango also, and some tart kiwi. This remains on the palate until the sip is finished, then you get citrus piths, bitter fruit pits, and bitter citrus rinds. No alcohol presence.

Mouthfeel - Just medium, but not heavy feeling in the least, medium for the intensity of flavors going on. Very juicy with some nice bright tartness, makes the mouth water. Carb is nearly medium, and starts smooth but develops nice edges almost immediately, and you can feel these wonderful tiny sharp edges spread across the tongue and back. There is some scrub but it loses out to the juiciness and mouth-watering citrus intensity.

Overall - I just love this beer! Very unique! There is a bit of floral hops going on here too, but this is all about the citrusy blood orange, as stated on the label. May no longer be available - if you see it and it's still < 60 days old, GET IT.

The aroma is amazing - giant citrus hop bomb aroma ( the Little Sumpin Sumpin used to smell this way but it seems like they've skimped lately on the late hop additions.) Appearance is very light orangy color, head is very thin. Taste is hoppy but not overly bitter, definitely a pale ale and not an IPA. There is a creamy citrus bite that blends nicely with the hops on the finish. You can definitely taste the blood orange juice additive. It has a light taste and feel so it's a bit surprising that it has a 7+abv. The alcohol is very well masked. A beautiful beer to say the least. I hope they move this to a year round offering.

Right in my wheelhouse. Orange/Yellow. Lacing doesn't hang around long. The citrus blast you get from this is amazing. Grapefruit and blood orange are what I get. Nose sets it all up. I'd like to see this year round.

Pours an effervescent bronze with a thumb of cream colored head. Stellar lacing & good head retention

S: Grapefruit rind, oranges & plenty of them

T: Grapefruit, orange peel & pomelo & a little crackery & bready dryness up front. More grapefruit as this t warms, light crackery notes, a little pine mingles in along with some mango, Finishes with loads of grapefruit pith, dryness & a little lemon

MF: Medium body, firm carbonation, great balance

Super drinkability, coupled with tons of flavor, will buy again & again as long as it is fresh!

The body of the beer was clear, pale golden, possessed fine carbonation bubbles, and formed a two finger thick head. This is about as picture perfect as a beer gets. I was expecting a citrus assault based on the formula of the beer, due to the inclusion of blood orange juice. This beer did not smell very citric to me, the way that Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin or Terrapin Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA did. The aroma was mostly typical for a pale ale, with just a touch of citrus, that could very well be mistaken for more hops. The taste is where the orange juice showed up in a big way. There was a concentrated orange sourness at the beginning of each sip. The sourness gave way to orange pith bitterness mid palette, and the finish was a long drawn out taste of blood orange. This tasted simply fabulous to me. The body was medium dense, and the ABV was absolutely invisible. This could easily be mistaken for a sub 5% ABV session ale. After that lackluster smell, I was not expecting a beer this good. Well done Lagunitas.

CitruSinensis - Lagunitas Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, this brew's head is three fingers thick, web-like lacing, and a medium-golden body.

I smell a generous portion of the added blood orange, along with juicy West Coast-style of hops. Just a faint bit of very bright malts.

Tastes like a great balance of the elements described above. Nothing is getting overpowered by any other component to the taste of this beer. Even more malt coming through with the taste, which I personally like. Nice and easy going.

The mouthfeel I'm getting here is smooth and refreshing. Definitely hits the spot after a day in the sun.

I'll give CitruSinensis - Lagunitas Brewing Company a overall 4.5 . More than likely, I'll pick this brew up another time to enjoy.

12 Fluid Ounce Bottle
Bottled on June 4th, 2015 (Via code printed on bottleneck)
Reviewed on July 17th, 2015
Served in an IPA Glass

Poured a very hazy pale orange with a nice amber glow. Pretty sunburst-like glow when held up to light. Visible pulp from the blood oranges added a comforting sense of freshness. A generous-sized white head formed, collapsed, and left a respectable amount of lacing.

Sweet citrus. Nice fusion of orange juice and grapefruit. Mild notes of lemon and mango formed a somewhat dense tropical backbone.

Tart orange juice hit the tongue first. Flares of grapefruit were flattened by a mellow tropical backbone of mango and a touch of pineapple. Bitter finish with sharp notes of herbal hops. Light/medium body. Moderate carbonation.

Another great offering from Lagunitas. I would not be surprised if this beer found its way into a year round or seasonal schedule.
