Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.90%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
We took some fresh Sanguinello Blood oranges, juiced 'em, concentrated that juice (without heat) and threw it into a wheatier version of our New Dogtown Pale Ale. The end result? A refreshingly hopped pale-ish ale with a huge citrus burst!

Pours a hazy darker orange body, copper hued with a one finger offwhite head with nice above-average retention. Thin rings of lacing. Smells of oranges and citrus; lots of citrus permeates the nose, very mild, mellow grainy pale malt sweetness in the background. Very orange-forward nose. Flavour is similarly orange-forward; citrus, oranges, a bit of grapefruit, very little bitterness, nice mellow pale malt sweetness and grains that are a bit more apparent than on the nose. Mouthfeel is medium-thinner bodied, good carbonation, a bit drying and sticky, mostly orange juice on the finish. Overall, pretty tasty summer beverage that delivers a wollop of oranges to your palate, although it doesn't deliver a whole lot else.

Bottled 06/04/15 Poured into a shaker pint glass from a 12oz. bottle.

L- Deep yellow, light gold, one finger white head, good clarity with some fine particles.

S- Sweet blood orange, some tropical, and some dankness. Really great aroma.

T- Blood orange, some toasted malt, bit of dankness, light pine, some guava. Citrus in the aftertaste. No detection of the 7.9%.

F- Medium, typical pale ale, maybe a bit more mouthfeel from the blood orange juice.

O- Very nice hoppy pale ale that has enough hops to not be overshadowed by the blood orange juice. Really loved the aroma on this one.

Just snagged a 6 pack bottles of this bad boy.... My only complaint is during the 4 or 5 sips it is slightly too sweet after the swallow (which is obviously the blood orange juice). Half way through the beer this mostly goes away. Initial smell is mouthwatering. Taste has massive citrus qualities,. Will purchase again if still available.

Pours a nice copper-orange with a thin white head. Smells of lemon and light hop. Tastes of lemon grass and hop that puts a lit bitter bite. A bit of onion in the finish. Pine resin enough to slightly quaff into the nose. It is extremely crisp, clean, and refreshing. A great summer beer. This one is unique. If they could turn back the lemon slightly, and add some grapefruit, this would be phenomenal, but they were probably trying to achieve just that. Kind of like Stone Delicilus, but I give this the nod.
