This beer pours a hazy gold with a thin head. Not as much carbonation I would expect, but I'm not overly familar with the style. Aroma is slightly grainy with a twinge of hops. Kind of like a macro lager but with noticeable hops. Taste is a nice light maltiness followed by nicely balenced hop bitterness and flavor. The hops are slightly citrusy and herbal. This is definitely a solid drinkable beer, great for a party or to introduce to non-BAs.

poured from a 12oz bottle into a glass. no bottle date indicated.

a: pours a clear, golden color (maybe a shade darker than golden) with a small thin head that settles into a thin lacing fairly quickly.

s: hmm. sweet, bready malts are there with a hint of piney hops.

t: sweeter than it should be. sweet, bready malts at first quickly followed by a slight hoppy bitterness (saaz). hop character fades quickly, leaving a lingering sweetness in the mouth. for some reason the flavor here ends up tasting sort of like a green apple. not very good.

m: not bubbly enough, doesn't finish dry and crisp as good pilsners do.

Notes:
i picked this up from the local big liquor store on sale for $8.99. i think this beer might be on the older side since there was no bottled on date and, quite frankly, it is the worst Lagunitas beer i have ever had.

i think it's either one of the following:

A) The bottle is old

OR

B) Much like pizza, you cannot get a decent lager in California.

i'm leaning towards option A, because Sierra Nevada Glissade made me temporarily change my mind on option B (Californian pizza still sucks ass though)....regardless, i think you are thinking getting this if you must be absolutely certain it is fresh...if not, get Victory Prima Pils or Sam Adams Noble Pils. both of those blow this pils out of the water.

i'll probably re-review if i see it on-tap, but at this point i cannot recommend it.

Quick notes on this beer:

*Dark gold, much darker then the average pils.
*Clear and thick
*Hoppier smell than most pilsners
*Has a woody hop scent with a "wet" malt smell
*Taste is bitter and hoppy. Some bitter malt and yeast as well
*Feels wet but with a bitter kick; a thick pilsner.
*Mild sour apple taste, not a bad thing
*Bready yeast sweetens as it warms.
*Feels fizzy and bubbly, like a saison
*Both sweet and sour tastes come out with more warmth
*Feels "spiky" and harsh, not smooth
*It's hard drinking for a pils, and quite strong considering
*Lots of flavor, but just too fizzy

Pours a pale golden yellow with lively carbonation bubbles developing a thin, foamy white head giving way to nearly no lacing.

Citrus, pale floral hops, a little bit of funky yeasts, and grass.

Very pleasant taste with floral hops, lemon zest and even something resembling a juniper berry with just a touch of spice such as coriander.

Light in body, medium in carbonation and very wet on the palate.

Excellent summer brew and a great example of the style featuring some great characteristics.

Aroma was very slight on this one...there was a small grain and vegetal type smell to it. Really, just a very clean aroma.

Taste is a little sweet at first with a bit of grain and even some caramel in there. This goes through the body, going into a fairly decent Noble hop bitterness that defines the style. It's certainly of average bitterness, if not a little above. Again, a little sweet on the finish....but it didn't have that toasty or really grainy quality that many of these beers do.

All in all, pretty average. Not offensive, but not top of style by any means.

Clear, good carb. Bland smell. Dry floral hops, crisp and just a touch of honey

A - Pours a nice clear golden color with a small white head. The head fell and left nice lacing on the glass. There were some carbonation bubbles present.

S - This one smells of grainy malt. It has a sweetness to it, and there are also notes of honey and lemon zest.

T - Bready yeast up front with some sweetness. There are also notes of spice, lemon zest, and a little bit of hops present. The finish it critrusy and bitter.

M - The mouthfeel is pretty good. It has a medium body with lots of carbonation. You can feel the tingling of the carbonation with each sip. It also goes down pretty smooth.

D - This is a pretty drinkable beer. It goes down very smooth. It's not my favorite Lagunitas beer, but I would probably pick this one up again.

A: bright, clear yellow; one-finger head; good carbonation -- it sparkles!
S: light, sweet aroma; fruity
T: aromatic, herbal flavor that immediately shows what the other industrial-made pilsners should be. Slightly hoppy, to provide the spicing, but the bready malt, with a touch of fruit, offsets this.
M: clean mouthfeel
D: You will likely want another, esp. on a hot day.

This is an ideal pilsner for a beer-drinker who appreciates a hoppy, complex beer. And it may just surprise and educate the pilsner drinker who hasn't explored much further.
