Had this poured into a pilsner glass. Definitely a unique spin on a pilsner with the hoppiness, nothing surprising with that coming from these guys. Color was nice, transparent yellow color with two fingers of white sticky head. Flavor and aroma were hops and cereal, with a lingering spice bite that I wasnt a huge fan of. Mouthfeel was a little rockier than Id expect for a pils. Not bad but I'll probably stick to their ales.

Hopping is very aggressive. Once my palate adjusted however it was pretty good. In my opinion if they stepped down the hops this would be excellent as the malt profile is very nice.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass. A- pale golden color, finger-and-a-half head that persisted through the first few sips before dissipating. Bubbles everywhere throughout the glass. S- grassy hops, some sweetness from the malt. No real citrus presence here, which would have been nice. T- cereal grains up front, noble hops in the middle, with a lingering malt aftertaste. It's no palate wrecker, but it definitely feels dry. M- effervescent to a fault, with a medium-light body, this one would be great on a warm day if you were looking for an upgrade on your go-to AAL. The happiness doesn't kill your tongue either. O- definitely not an all-day affair, due to the 6% alcohol. But it feels like it could be. That being said, I've had better European Pilsners before (e.g. Never, Urquell), so this wouldn't be my first choice.

look: 3 | smell: 3 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

Appearance: Light gold leaning toward the yellow part of the spectrum. Very clear, light white head and good lacing.

Aroma: Very clean light malt with a sense of honeyed sweetness. Some hop spiciness.

Taste: Fuller flavored malt carries through, hops ride on top like icing on a cake. Malt, hops, that's it but there's a fair amount of both in there.

Texture: Fuller and heavier than Euro pilsners. Sort of a New World beefier version of the original Czech model.

Overall: Pilsner, heavyweight class. For those (like me) who like the Lagunitas approach.

look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

APPEARANCE: A nice clear golden, lots of medium sized carbonation rising. Two fingers of white foamy head that lingers and then settles to a thick layer on top. Nice lacing down the pils glass.
AROMA: Mild. Some lemon, almost a honey like sweetness. Twirl the glass and that brings out some fresh cut grass.
TASTE: Lots of sweetness right up front, again, honey like. Then a sort of generic bitterness starts to build.
FEEL: The carbonation is medium, the body is medium light. The beer is a little slick overall, slightly drier on the finish.
OVERALL: Decent beer, a little less descript in terms of tasting the hops than I want. The bitterness and general flavors seem a little disjointed, to me.

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass

A - Moderate pour produces a head that is 1 1/2 fingers in height and white in color. Head is a thick foam and dissipates rather slowly. The beer itself is clear and straw colored with moderate carbonation rising moderately quickly towards the surface. 4/5

S - The aroma is fairly subdued but does contain notes of light cereal malt, floral hops, and noble hops. There is almost a soapiness to the aroma that reminds me of the soap I use in the shower. Not the best aroma that I have ever smelled in a beer. 3/5

T - Light caramel and buttered white bread are the initial flavors that stand out quite nicely. A bit of pear comes out in the middle before transitioning to the second half of the flavor profile which is very clean and noble hop driven with just a hint of floral hops. No lingering bitterness on the palate. 3.5/5

M - Light carbonation tickle up front but that quickly diminishes to a light creaminess that persists throughout the sip. Light to medium bodied in nature. Coats the tongue from front to back and does not dry out the palate in the slightest. 4/5

O - Not entirely sweet but not really bitter either. Well balanced between the two while maintaining a lightness that allows for good drinkability. This pilsner is very enjoyable and takes me back to when I traveled to Prague but the aroma just isn't strong enough to evoke a stronger score. 3.5/5

It has a very clear and golden color. Average size head that leaves a lacy white lining on the glass as you drink. Smells considerably hoppy. Medium body feel in the mouth with moderate carbonation that dances on your tongue. Goes down smoothly and feels pretty light. It definitely doesn't seem to be a 6% ABV beer. Tastes hoppy and bitter. For what I know, it seems to be a good American take on the Czech Pilsner style. I think it would be a perfect light and hoppy beer to be paired with some salty popcorn and a mild night.

Clear as a bell gold color with streaming bubbles and a thick soapy white head. Looks good. Cheers!

Smell is hops barley and some sweet malts. There is a bit of dankness to the smell as well.

Taste that was smacking in the face was a strong skunk punch. This I did not like at all! It was really overpowering all else in my beer. As the beer was warming it reminded me of that old original shit flavor of listerine.

Mouth feel was skunk sticky and had a long lingering finish on the back side.

Here is the skinny on this beer - I had this on tap at a local bar and loved it! It was such a nice pairing with the spicy pizza me and the wife were sharing. Now I go to the local grocery store and am doing one of those build your own six packs and I see this bottle. Excited I take this home and pour out a very disappointing beer. The really strange thing is there is no damn date any where on the damn bottle! I am sure I am the victim of an old crap stick beer but cannot say this for certain since this brewery has failed to place a date of any damn kind on the bottle. Well I guess I will choke this one down and only purchase on tap.

laguniitas pils (bottle purchased in NY, tasted 2/29. Cooled to about 55F.

Pale beer with moderate thin head, a whiff of hoppy aroma. Label say Saaz hops, and the taste emphasizes the hops. Nice long-lasting bitter aftertaste.

The alcohol is 6% and doesn't feature in the light bodied taste. Nice beer, but I'd like a lower alcohol content, so that I could drink it on a hot summer afternoon.

A firm draft pour into a tall pilsner glass has virtually no head.

Slight lacing a reminder of a pale yellow colored beer.

Odor is sweet and hoppy with no bitterness.

Mouthfeel is clean and light.

It has flavor! This is not surprise, but rather a declaration. Well balanced hop and malt in a smooth, light, easy drinking pilsner.

This is a great 'local' goto beer to replace any/all big domestics.

I'm expecting something of a hop bomb (by my palate's shy standard.)
But we have here another American interpretation of a style that is suited well.
While I prefer the Bavarian Pilsners (More malt) to the Czech Pils (more hops), Lagunitas struck a nice balance between the styles.

One of my favorite discoveries of 2015: a light-ish beer that didn't suck. Lovely straw color, beautiful smell, bit of spice and body. Crisp as hell...certainly a nice drink to have during the summer.

On draft and in a pint glass

L - a lovely yellow straw color. a very clear beer. little lacing on the sides of the glass. no head retention.

S - the malts and the lager yeast are very prominent. slight Saaz hop aroma. has a pleasant smell

T - light carbonation. tastes much lighter then 6.5%. spiciness from the hops floods my taste buds from the beginning.

F - medium body. the Saaz hops dont overwhelm the malt. very balanced and very clean

O - a pretty simple, clean pilsner. i really enjoy pilsner lagers. easy to drink and looks really nice in a shaker pint or nonick glass. recommended if you are looking for a nice easy brew to put back

Pours a light straw color with about a half finger of head. The nose has the light essence of pilsner malt. The flavor profile is light and finishes dry.

L: Extremely lively with a massive billowy head and excellent head retention for the style. Pours a clear slightly golden straw color.

S: Incredible blast of fresh noble hops. Very spicy and floral, with some grassiness and a touch of bread. A bit more malty than other examples of the style, but pretty clean overall.

T: Great showcase of European hop varieties with soft, bready pilsner malt. Spicy grassy hop presence, with quite a bit of grain. Definitely has a stronger taste than most other pilsners, owing to the relatively high strength. Finish is dry, moderately bitter with the slightest hint of lingering caramel and grain.

F: Medium-light body, closer to light, with a slightly slick mouthfeel. Lively yet soft carbonation. My only fault here is that the carbonation is pretty fleeting; active at first but dies down considerably within a few minutes.

O: One of the better pilsners I’ve had to date. With each sip it’s like the noble hops hit you over the head, then beg your pardon.

On tap at Neurolux. A bit disappointing, and not very "pilsnerish". I was missing the crisp hops bite on the tap. This came across more lagerish, is both aroma and taste, more like a Dortmunder. I'd need to resample under better conditions (i.e. not at a concert)

This was by far the most interesting experience I have had with a beer in quite some time. Lagunitas Pils looks like a lager, smells like one too, but it tastes like a mild ale (a smoother Boston Lager, IMHO.) This alone puts it in my very short list of favorites or beers I would enjoy sharing with friends, to impress.

Out of the glass it has the normal lager appearance, but it does sport a thick head and had some lacing down the glass. The beer smells like your garden variety lager, but there are some spicy notes if you take the time to search for them. Mouthfeel was crisp and refreshing, the kind of feel that is sessionable, at least to me. And though, like I already mentioned, the darn thing looked and smelled like a lager, it was nowhere near lager-city when it came to taste. In the end, I enjoyed this brew immensely and look forward to the remainder I have on hand.

Bought a single bottle from Beers of the World Summer 2015. Poured cold into a Duvel Tulip.

Look: Gold, thick white head, nice lacing.

Smell: Slightly sour smell and fresh cut hay-exactly like a Pils should smell

Taste: smooth, balanced with the perfect Noble hopiness

Feel: great

Overall: this is an excellent beer

Clear light yellow. One inch head. Leaves bubbles to the side off the glass. Smell is salty bread. Taste is a typical pilsner with a hint of hops. Light refreshing and great for right after work. I really wish lagunitas would put dates on their beers though!! Cheers!

Great go to lager type for me. Abv close to IPA range for me a little high.
Taste is slightly hoppy with good solid malt backbone lagered well. Always buy when on sale at Publix.

Overall a great beer.

Bought a bomber a few weeks ago and decided to chill it this afternoon. Enjoying the second glass of it and will buy another. This is a beer I could drink on July fourth (all day).

If you dream about beer like I do, you probably envision a beer that looks like this one. It has a good foamy head and a classic golden color. The beer has a yeasty smell and I get a bit of a copper penny smell. It has a crisp taste and has a little bite to it, getting a little copper flavor. The carbonation hits the front of the tongue when sipping. I think this would make a refreshing summer beer.

A light golden/straw color, creamy head and good lace retention. Malty sweet aroma as well as some tangy fruit. A slight sulphur aroma towards the end. Sweet toasted malts, spicy hops and a tangy feel in the taste. Spicy hop and dry finish. Light and crisp. Overall a tasty Czech style pilsner.

12 Fluid Ounce Bottle
Bottled on June 29th, 2015 (Julian Code printed on the bottleneck)
Reviewed on September 14th, 2015
Served in a Pilsner Flute

Eyes
Poured a rich yellow body capped off by a massive bright white foam head. Globs of soapy white lacing clung to the side of the glass as the head collapsed. Bubbles were visible, circulating throughout the body.

Nose
Sweet bready malts stood out. Surprised to get a whiff of tropical hops... mango, lemon, etc. Not overly hopped but more than I was expecting.

Mouth
Bready malts hit the tongue first. Citric hops quickly flared up. Bit of an earthy bite... lemongrass, herbal hops, and the slightest hint of spice. Light/Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation.

Notes
Enjoyable beer all-around. Certainly not a traditional Czech Pilsner but a solid offering nonetheless.

Bottle poured into an iced pilsner glass. Typical straw/yellow color with a small white head. Aroma of grass, hay, and faint hops. Taste follows the nose. Good carbonation, Goes down easy and finishes a little dry. I usually prefer my pilsners at under 5%, but I can't detect the higher alcohol in this one. I can easily drink a six pack of this in about an hour on a hot NYC day. Very tasty and refreshing.
