Reviewed on 8/24/08. Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a small white head. Aroma of stale wheat and lager malts. Flavor is wheaty with some light fruits. But mostly this just tastes like stale wheat and I didn't like it at all. I didn't get this one...

Sampled from a 12oz bottle purchased from Sam's in Durham, NC.

A - Golden and clear with a moderate white head that dissipates quickly.

S - Toasted malt with a slight sweetness.

T - Clean and crisp but sweeter than I expected. A mildly bitter finish but not a lot of hop flavor. Fairly mild as compared to what I expected.

M - A bit thin and well carbonated.

D - I was using a Pilsner Urquel as my baseline and with that, I was a bit disappointed. This is a good beer and easy enough to drink but it's no threat to the Czechs.

Appearance: Pours golden yellow with a white fluffy head and some lacing. Lots of visible carbonation.

Smell: I smell apple along with a nice floral aroma. Kind of surprised how much the apple stands out.

Taste: Starts off with some sweet malty notes followed by a nice hop bite. A little bit more emphasis on the hops but I like that.

Mouthfeel: I like the carbonation and the creaminess. It doesn't have any grainy texture like most pilsners I've tried.

Drinkability: I could definitely sip on this one a lot. The extra hops really brings it over the top for me as far as a drinkable pilsner.

Pours golden color with an enormous white fluffy head. Fully one-third of the 16 ounce glass was head! Modest floral hop aroma. Foamy lacing. More hops than most Pilsners which is good IMO. Flavor is mild as expected with a nice bitter dry finish. Truly an awsome Pilsner or Lager. Cost $1.49 US for a 12 ounce single. Might be an impressive beer for your Bud swilling friends.
Great session beer for those seeking respite from hop bombs.

Pours a bright, clear golden. A thin, bright white head bubbles up on the pour, but quickly fizzes away to a thin film. The aroma, like most pilsners in my experience, is light. Though there are nice malty caramel aromas and a bit of herbal hops.

Sweet and bready flavors greet the tongue, moving into a more defined malty sweetness. The finish is a pretty spot on. There's a nice citrus-tinged, spicy hop finish with a good lingering bitterness. Crisp, nicely carbonated and light-bodied.

Golden hued with reeling streams of bubbles under a modest fluff of white.
Grain cracker aroma, lightly honeyed, and backed with dried herbs and flowers.
A bit sweeter in the malt department through the mouth. It still starts crackery and grainy, but the honey takes a larger hold, almost flirting with caramel, as apple blossom notes arrive. Hops are brisk, bitter, and herbal, and balancing, even though I would like them to carry a better part of the weight.
It's taut, light-medium. The carbonation dies relatively quickly. It's not lazy or rotund, but it lacks the peppiness and perkiness of some.
All told, this is a solid pils from a brewery that makes their cake on ales. Not great, but absolutely respectable.

A: Light gold color. Poured a 2 finger white head that dissipated slowly. Uneven lacing. Decanted continuously.

S: Wet grains, light malts. Fairly prominent bittering hops.

T: Crips and dry followed by hops bitterness and light malt sweetness. The balance doesn't seem quite right with the lingering sweetness AFTER the hops.

M: Light-to-medium body. Nicely balanced carbonation. Crisp and smooth. Dry.

D: Not a lot of flavor and balance isn't quitte right. That said. goes down smooth and easy to drink.

poured from a 12 oz bottle in to a pilsner glass.

pours a carbonated golden color with a fluffy white head

smell is somewhat fruity, more than most pilsners.

sweet tangy taste followed by some mellow hops then mellow malt base.

decent mouthfeel, any more would make it less drinkable.

this is better and more drinkable than most pilsners I have had lately. surprising beer from lagunitas, I didn't expect a whole lot considering how similar a lot of their beers taste (not bad just similar).

Ever since having the New Glarus Unplugged Bohemian Pils last week, I have craving some thirst quenching lagers. This one held its own and satisfies my urge for a clean and flavorful session beer. Brilliant golden and clear body with heavy carbonation and thin, but slightly sticky, layer of head. The aroma is filled with a doughy maltiness that is paired with oak and noble hops. Nice and resinous, but controlled hop presence. The taste is sharp and malty on the front and dried out substantially on the swallow. The touch a crystal malt seems to add great depth to this medium bodied lager. Not sure if they put this beer on oak, but it surely has wonderful barrel qualities. This is so easy to drink and a great example of a lager done right. It is so easy to get lost in the hype and trends of big beers (guilty myself), but somethings, nothing is better than a cold, clean pils. This one is definitely suiting for crowd pleasing.

Poured this into my Pilsner glass and it was just a beautiful looking beer. A thick whipped cream head floated above the beer. The head did fade rather quickly into the beer and a spider web of foam/lacing was left behind. The beer was a deep golden color and was very clear. Moderate carbonation was visible.

The aroma seemed to focus on the grains and had a subtle sweetness and yeasty tone.

The taste was interesting in that there was certainly a big hop presence, but it almost seemed dull to me. There are lively hop bites and dull ones. I wish I had a better way to describe it. Behind this was some sweetness, perhaps a little too much for a pilsner. Got some nice grain tastes as well. Not much depth to the flavor. Also got a bit of a yeasty taste near the end.

Mouthfeel was sharp due to the hop bitterness that I mentioned above. Mouth feel was fairly light, but has a sense of being syrupy.

Pretty good drinkability.

Not among my favorite pilsners. But pretty good.

I don't think I would like this beer even if it didn't say czech pilsner on the label. Not only does it not taste like a czech pils, it just doesn't taste good.

Pours nicely enough with a great rich golden color. No head, but this is okay. Aroma is like wet cardboard. I do get a nice saaz hop aroma past the wet cardboard.

A good czech pils to me should be dry and crisp and I find this beer to be overly sweet and the opposite of dry. It's really quite cloying and the flavor follows the aroma.

In essence the beer does have characteristics of a czech pils, bit it is poorly executed.

Pours a straw-gold color with a soda-like head that disappeared as soon as it formed. Aroma is somewhat grainy, with a mild fruitiness and even milder citrus character. The flavor is unambitious, to say the least. It's a bit sweet on the front, but that's soon replaced by a malty center. The finish is quite bitter, with bit of the grainy malts hanging on. That bitterness sure lasts.
The carbonation is a bit heavy for my taste. This isn't the sort of thing I'll be partaking much of.

This is a disappoing and unpleasant pilsner with an almost tasteless, rough bitterness completely dominating most of it after the first sip.

Golden and a bit bubbly, it has a thin white head that dissipates fast to leave a weak ring and practically no lace.

The aroma is somewhat mild yet pretty good, flowery with toasted grain/crackers and fruity hops with hints of citrus and pine.

Taste is decent at first, being both sweet and slightly bitter, with light toasted grain and hops that have mostly a faint pine-lemon pulp taste. Thus far, it's ok, but even so nothing special or particularly interesting and is a bit bland. It gets worse and ends up very bland yuet roughly bitter with little actual flavour or character except a faint hint of old, almost tasteless lemon rind rubbed briefly with pine needles. The feel, at first soft and smooth becomes rough, dry and unpleasant, leaving an unpleasant, vague aftertaste.

a: into a pils glass, big fluffy off white head fed by tons of bubbles rising from the bottom, slow recession and good lacing, golden hay in color

s: smells nice, pilsner malt gives a light-moderate sweetness, grassy hops, a little metal

m: carbonation just over medium, light-medium body

t: clean pilsner grains, clean barley sweetness, grassy hops, a slight metal flavor lingers, well bittered

d: no problem...nothing extraordinary and it could stand to be crisped up a touch, but a very solid and drinkable pilsner

single from Whole Foods Reston...been sitting there almost since I moved up, figured it was time

Thanks goes out to jctribe25 for this one.

Pours a nice clean/clear golden yellow color, nice carbonation, nice one-finger creamy white head, with some sticky lacing to follow. The nose is malty, with some hops, and spicy. The taste is slightly sweet, malty/hoppy, with some nice spice notes. Medium body. Drinkable, this is a true to style brew from the L. Always nice to get a L brew, very afforable and tasty.

A - A nice straw color with a small head, nothing out of the ordinary. Leaves a little lacing.

S - A bit of honey sweetness with just a touch of grassy hops coming through

T - A nice crisp flavor with just a touch of sweetness and hops coming through. Very refreshing.

M - A bit underwhelming, the carbonation is right but the beer seems a little thin.

D - Very drinkable, would go with just about anything and is just a very refreshing tasty beer in general.

As a fan of Pilsners in general I was disappointed by this beer. I found that the taste was sweet almost like a macro rather than rich like say Staroprahmen. The complexity too was missing like spiciness and a muskiness and there was relatively low hop bitterness as well. The mouthfeel and drinkability were fine. Overall not interesting or compelling.

Nice foamy head, crystal clear pilzen yellow. Lots of carbonation. This looks like a golden carbonated twinkie

Smells of fresh grass, pale malts, not too hoppy. Like a hostess grass pie.

Full malt body, sweetness, not as hoppy as expected but nice hop finish. Kinda like a ding dong but instead of cream in the middle, hops.

Beautiful "beer" aftertaste, lingering hops. HoHo's are good.

Worth a try, good california shot at ze pilsener. Drink this with the hostess snowballs that come out around st. patricks day, they're green.

A- pours a light tangerine pale orange yellow tone, very small head that fades fast with no lacing.

S-sweet, sugary, maybe some honey scents, malty.

T-strong beginning, notes of grass and some citrus here and there, malts throughout. aftertaste lingers.

M- good carbonation, dry finish.

D- good pilsner, can Lagunitas make a bad beer? if so i haven't found it yet.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pilsner glass. Had a coppery color and slightly cloudy texture. A fairly large, long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: Smelled mainly of malts, some mild hops and citrus elements.

T: Toasted malts, hops, citrus and some other spices. There was a kind of acidic quality that was off-putting at first, but gradually grew on me.

M: A pretty high amount of carbonation and a smooth finish. Above medium-bodied.

D: Overall, not a bad example of a pilsener. It didn't rock my world, but still, a well done beer.

A- This looks very clear and sort of similar to that of a macro lager.

S- There are some floral notes mixed with some light fruits. I smell a sort of a slight butter smell, like buttered bread. Very supprising considering the appearance looked too similar to macro lager.

T- I'm quite suprised by the taste. The buttered bread is more present in the taste. The floral notes are subtle but there. I think that this has a good taste, much better then I was thinking it was going to be.

M- Good feeling in the mouth, feels like a standard beer.

D- Same as above, easy to drink.

Pours a golden, yellow color with a real nice thick white head head. Nice nice lacing too. Aroma is pleasant: citrus fruits, grainy and grassy. I get a nice little lemon zing in the flavor followed by grassy bitter hops. Clean and refreshing. Solid brew.

An unexpected "extra" from a local beer run.
12oz. bottle into a tasting stange courtesy of the friendly neighborhood bottle purveyor.

A ~Clear, copper color with spirals of tight tiny bubbles. Nothing remarkable about the short lived, mediocre white head. Spotty, perforated patches of thin lace.

S ~ Overwhelmingly hops. Some damp, earthy, smokey background smells with rose petals & citrus rinds.

T ~ Pronounced sharp edges with little support from any malts diffused by the strong carbonation. Astringent & dry. A little grassy...

M ~ Sharp & thin bodied. A lingering, bitter, dry finish with a citrusy aftertaste.

D ~ Not my favorite style to begin with but most certainly worth the time. After all ~ it was FREE!

Poured into a tall Pilsner glass, yellowish-gold with a slight haze, foamy white head that disapates to consistent thin topping. Lots of bubbles and a little lacing left on the glass. Smells of grain, corn, muffins. Taste of corn, biscuits, straw, and grains, some hop bitterness on the finish. Decent body! Clean a crisp with a slightly dry finish. Very drinkable.
