Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
2016 OneHitter Series. This big boozy blonde was brewed with a boatload of oats, giving it a creamy, sweet mouthfeel with a hoppy blast. It's like a powdered sugar doughnut topped with deliciously bitter, danky resinous hops. Chow down!

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Lagunitas mason jar.

Appearance: Pours a deep golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Slight finger of off white head which settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: An earthy and juicy hop driven aroma with a scent of citrus, pine, and oats. Upfront scent of citrus hops with hints of orange peel, grapefruit, tangerine, mango, apricot, and lemon. Earthy hops with a big scent of pine resin. Malt hints of caramel, oats, grains, biscuit, and yeast. Some sweet hints of candied sugar. A very good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a juicy, earthy, and bitter hop driven taste with notes of citrus, pine resin, and oats. Big upfront presence of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, tangerine, lemon zest, and apricot. Earthy and herbal hops with some good notes of pine resin. Backing malt notes of caramel, grains, oats, biscuit, and yeast. Sweet taste of candied sugar. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, oily, somewhat sticky, and pretty drying on the finish. Alcohol heat is minimal.

Overall: Another great hoppy brew from Lagunitas. Big citrus and pine hop flavors that kind of overwhelm the oats but what else do you expect from Lagunitas? Really nice hop flavor.

Poured into a Dogfish traditional oversized snifter. Bottleneck says 348 5.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/4 inch off-white head that retains decently before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Fantastic hop aroma with tons of grapefruit rind, dank grassiness and spicy herbal quality.

T- Vibrant hop flavor with more citrus, resinous pine and tropical fruit juiciness. Bitterness is assertive but not lingering. The 10.5% ABV is dangerously undetectable

M- This is what sets this particular IPA apart from other Lagunitas hoppy offerings. The oats provide a softness to the feel that ties together the beer as a whole.

O- Lagunitas - Constantly reinventing the wheel. Yeah, every new beer they come out with is either a new twist on an IPA or a hoppy twist on a different style, but damn do they know what they're doing. Time after time, I'm impressed with their next take on hoppy beers.

Just when you thought you've seen it all, the style that often ends up in the realm of IPA sees experimentation coming from all sides. Oats and hops join forces in this go-round and once again challenges Lagunitas brewers with, "What are you thinking?"

Bitter Oats rolls out with a bright golden color and hardly a glimmer of haze. Topped with a whipped meringue-like froth, the ale looks innocent and inviting enough. But above it all wafts a tremendous hop display with ripe citrus, vibrant tropical and melon-like fruit that come to life. Bready-sweet and confectionate with pastry character, its taste is malty-sweet with a twist.

With the malt sweetness relaxing to a medium level of intensity, the hops show no sign of slowing; bringing their racy flavors of red grapefruit, mandarin orange, lemon, pineapple, mango, apricot, cantaloup and juniper to the precipice. And in the wake of the tapering sweetness comes a sharp hop bitterness that hits the tongue with pin-point precision with a jolt of torn pine needles, fresh grass clippings and citrus rind.

As the ale finishes, its medium body is creamy, rounded and smooth- nearly ideal to offset enough hop sharpness for a palatable closing taste with the whimsy of citrus, vodka-type spice and fresh, perfumy spruce.

Thick, creamy white head an inch high that slowly settled. Hazy, warm copper color.

Tropical citrus notes, and a bit of earthy mustiness

Much more pine in the taste. The citrus and grapefruit are present as well.

Creamy taste, without being overly heavy. Would never guess this is 10.5% ABV

Excellent beer - many of the "classic" elements of Lagunitas beer, with a nicely implemented oat twist.

L: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had an orange-ish color and a hazy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy head that lasted a long time. Excellent lacing.

S: A big aroma that's noticeable the second you open the bottle: Lots of pine, hops, and citrus.

T: Tasted of a whole lot of hops, a resinous pine flavor, grapefruit, and a sweet, sugary quality you don't see in most DIPAs. This beer has a big, powerful flavor with a whole lot of hops. The sugar element makes for an interesting taste. Very complex and interesting.

F: Well-carbonated with a fairly bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Bitter Oats definitely lives up to its name, but this is a good thing. It's a dynamic and drinkable beer.

Fantastic beer. Big, boozy, rich, sweet, sharp, robust, balanced and memorable. Love it. Cloudy golden auburn with a thick white head that turns to a sticky white residue. Smell is Sucks-esque plus, with big piney resin and citrus and tropical fruit, but a deep level of dankness and sweet onion I'm not sure I've ever experienced before. Taste follows suit with a huge amount of malty sweetness equally matched by the piney bitterness, with notes of orange peel and grapefruit throughout each sip. Puckering and saliva-inducing in equal parts. Mouthfeel is extremely thick, chewey, and sticky, which is obviously where the oats are doing their thing. Phenomenal beer. Shared a bomber with a friend, which made for an almost perfect glass of beer during a night of many different samplers. Not sure I could drink multiple of these without destroying the palette for anything else, but man I enjoyed the glass I had.

Bomber. Bright clean amber-orange, finger white head fades to a ring, soapy lacing. Big citrusy aroma, orange peel, pine. Taste is very bright and hoppy, citrus peel and pine carry throughout the sip. There is a sweet backbone but the hops clearly dominate. Piney bitterness lasts well beyond the dry finish. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, but you can tell this is a powerful brew. Medium to full soft creamy mouthfeel. Good bitter DIPA, liked it.

Pours to a medium straw appearance with a huge, fluffy white head of 3 fingers. Smells tropical (orange pith) and dank (damp forest floor) along with hints of turpentine - quite intoxicating actually. Taste is a mix of creamy malt, citrus, mango and booze. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy thanks to the oats. This is a damn tasty beer from Lagunitas - they never seem to disappoint on these One Hitter Series beers.

Pours a slightly hazy, burnt orange with a decent amount of carbonation. Lots of lacing. A one finger, foamy white head. A good, citrus hop smell. I love the combination taste of the oats and double hop. It proves to create a great transition fro citrus bitter. A nice funk from the double. Lagunitas hits a home run again!

Bomber poured into pint glass.

Appearance: golden beer with a lot of bubbles flooding the beer. Small amount of an eggshell colored head that lingers.

Smell: Smells hoppy.

Taste: bitter hops, some of the oats give it a slightly sweet under taste. Alcohol well hidden.

Mouthfeel: Slick and a little more creamy than a normal pale.

Overall: This surprisingly works well.

The beer was a dark gold color. There was a good-sized head that left a bit of lace.
Dank aroma. Some citrus.
Very dank taste. A little bit of orange'
The hop bitterness lingered and intensified.
Would never know the ABV was 10.5%.

Pours clear, light yellow in color with 1/2 inch head. Smell is very herbal. Taste is citrus hops--grapefruit and some pine. There is light sugary sweetness at the end of a very heavy body. Taste is mostly really bitter. Interesting take on an IPA and I am sure that hop heads will like this. For me, this was a bit too bitter and a bit too heavy bodied. I prefer other One Hitter beers better.

Poured an orangish Amber color with a slight cloudiness to it and one fingers worth of foamy off white head. There is a sweetness to the smell before the hop aroma takes over. The flavor follows suit as there is a light sweetness before the the hops jump in with pine and spice. The feel is much thicker than you'd expect from an IPA but works really well with the flavors going on here. This beer is extremely well done. I enjoy the difference the oats bring to the IPA's feel and the balance brought to the large amount of hop flavor.

Copper in color with great clarity and an inch of densely packed head resting on top. Moderate lacing. Intense aroma of piney hops. I taste very bitter and resinous piney hops with just a hint of sweet oats in the fade almost keep things in check. There's something cloying going on. The mouth is a bit sudsy and thick.

Damn. This thing is heavy in every way. There is a ton of residual hop and malt proteins from everything that went into this big blonde bitch. Big malt profile that is sweet and smooth. Leaves a crisp biscuity finish and then the hops hit. Resinous and dank. Wet and heavy. On the exhale the astringent warmth of the 10.5% ABV lingers, leaving you needing to take another sip. This thing is good but it will ruin your palate and your hand/eye coordination. Don't drink this as your Friday night starter if you have a line up of things your plan to sample.
