Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A Unique Dry-Hopped Sweet Tart Sour Mash Ale. We soured the wort on the Hot Side with Lactobacillus for a few days and then brewed up this smooth and hoppy sour. It tastes like a big bowl of fruity candy or some chewable flavored vitamins, but what's the difference? It's sweet, tart, and sassy, just like the tasty cherry pie that your favorite aunt makes. For all the Aunt Sally's out there, You know who you are...

Maybe I set my expectations too low but this one really blew me back. Great flavor for a sour beyond the "sour". I got an incredible fruit flavors. My taste buds went into sensory overload as it flowed across my tongue, like little sour fairies were dancing. Overall, very good, I would definitely return to this ale in the future if it were available.

12 oz bottle was poured into a snifter.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pale yellow color with great clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Citrus, a little sour, bready, and pale malts.

Taste: Hop forward citrus notes, tart, sour, bready, and pale malts. Light chewy, puckers, and bitterness in the rear.

Mouthfeel: Light, tart, pucker, a little chewy, light bitterness, and medium carbonation.

Overall: Nice dry hopped sour mash ale. More on the side of the gose and tasty stuff too.

From the nose one would think pale ale...but you have no clue of the sour assault forthcoming. Nice! Different!

Nice looking beer - dark straw appearance with a one finger white head that hangs around. Laces well too. Smells fantastic with that signature Lagunitas tropical hop profile (pineapple, grapefruit, etc.) along with a good hit of grassy dankness. Sweet and sour is an apt taste descriptor - initial flavor is Pixy Stick followed up with lemony tartness. Very unique tasting beer. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side with adequate carbonation. This is the 6th beer from my six-pack - I have enjoyed them all but am not rushing out to buy more. Maybe this will shine once the weather heats up.

Love/hate relationship here. Awesome because it tastes like sweettarts beer, horrible for the same reason. Tart...check. Sweet...check. Too much of both...for this dude, yes. Interesting brew, but will not probably buy again in a sixer.
