a weird one, at once very not lagunitas at all, and then sort of overly lagunitas. let me explain. the belgian base beer is way outside the wheelhouse, and even though its cool they took a stab at it, this is definitely not what they do best. the beer is overly malty, heavy rather than creamy and airy and light, its more than just pale wheat, as it has some light toffee color and richness to it, makes this more weighty than it needs to be. the yeast is also insanely estery, near the phenolic range, white pepper powder galore, spicy yeah, and not unappealing, but too much of a good thing makes it kind of obnoxious, both in aroma and flavor, in these ways this beer is not really ideal as a wit, the drinkability is compromised and the refreshment factor is corrupted. as far as it being very typical lagunitas, its overly hopped for the style, which i think originally was the point, but its not just dry hopped, even though there is a pleasant meyer lemon sort of aromatic on this, its also quite bitter through the back half and on the swallow, a little vegetal even, and for me this clashes with the yeast, which is also trying to be dominant. its also stronger than it needs to be for a wit, which also brings drinkability way down but just sort of makes this weirdly aggressive, like the chill factor isnt here at all, not that its boozy, but this should be quenching and easy, instead it sort of takes extra effort, and it stays with me longer than i want it to on each sip, despite still being on the dry side. subtle hints of black pepper, lemongrass, and coriander here, but then harsher like varnish and nail polish notes. the wheat is good, but the toasted little bit of malt heft is out of place, high carbonation works in its favor, but its not enough to bring this back into the wit range anywhere else. fun for one, more than that not so much, the hops and the yeast both being turned way up is the issue for me. not their best...

Bottled summer 2016; drank 7/31/16 @ the Yarchives.

See-through orange appearance; champagne bubbles throughout.

A rough pour yielded a huge off-white head; a thick curtain of frothy lace.

Grapefruit, cane sugar & mild wheat notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Grapefruit & mild cane sugar flavors up front; dry, mildly bitter wheat notes on the finish.

A pleasantly fruity, sweet wit that was a hint too dry & bitter on the finish for me. Still enjoyable.

[Original rating 2016-08-19] Botttle. Pours clear gold with a big white head. Aroma of citrus, grass, faint spice. Taste of lemon, stone fruit, bready finish.

pours a slightly hazy tannish orange color with a nice thick foamy head. taste is of a citrusy foreground that melds together with grains. gives way to a nice bitter hoppy with the grainy taste lingering at the very end. anyone familiar with the stoopid line knows how hoppy they are. fortunately the folks at lagunitas know how to balance it just right. doesnt make me do a face like a lot of IPAs do. for the 6.3% ABV this is a very easy drinking light bodied beer. would drink again

This is not a wit, it's not even close. This is an IPA, with IPA hopppiness and character throughout. Bought this expecting a wit, giant waste of money. Don't waste your time, and shame on Lagunitas for trying to trick people into buying it.

Not a very tasty beer at all. Very bitter on the middle palate; overpowering for a wit.
