Very Good
12th Of Never Ale12th Of Never Ale
Notes: Tropically Hoppy. Light, yet Full-Bodied. Bright and Citrusy. Word.

The magical, mystical 12th of Never is a blend of Old and New School hops that play bright citrus, rich coconut, and papaya-esque flavors, all on a solid stage of English puffed wheat. Tropically hoppy. Light, yet full-bodied. Bright and citrusy. The 12th of Never Ale is everything we’ve learned about making hop-forward beer expressed in a moderate voice. Pale, cold, slightly alcoholic and bitter. It’s all we know.

These 12oz mini-kegs (AKA cans) are an exciting new option for us, and we are stoopid stoked at the opportunity for y’all to take us to all those new, nelophobic locations…

look: 2.5 | smell: 5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: Clear almost neon yellow in color. What started out as a towering rocky white head quickly dissolved leaving no lacing. Carbonation is shooting up like a rocket ship. Honestly nothing to look at.

Aroma: Fragrant. Loads of pineapple, lemon zest, fresh cut grass and other sour citruses. It smells so fresh.

Taste: Hops. Loads of hops. Fresh pineapple, puckery lemon peel, hint of mango and an oily grassy bitterness all blend beautifully. Malt is incredibly thin and only comes through in the aftertaste with a cracker-like body. Maybe a bit of papaya in the aftertaste. Bitterness is there but not a problem at all. Like the aroma; fresh and citrusy.

Feel: Light to medium bodied, carbonation is aggressive but I think it goes well with the hops and bitterness. Overall very dry and refreshing. My lips feel like they're dissolving after each sip.

Overall: Delicious. The aroma alone puts a shit eating grin on my face. This is hop bliss in it's purest form.

From the bottom of the can: "201 6 2 1304 1432"

Appearance: The body of the beer is very clear and has a light golden appearance. The white head is fluffy with an overall creamy texture. It has a slightly short head and while it retains a head it only manages to get shorter. Some very minimal camouflage style lacing.

Aroma: I could smell tropical fruits even as I poured this beer. It literally smells like a fruit cup with pineapple, peach, and mango. It is a strong and pervasive aroma.

Taste: It has a nice bitter grapefruit flavor with some pineapple right at the edge where the skin is. It does not have any malt character. The flavors are not overly complex but they are done outstandingly well. The hop flavor is exceedingly fresh. There is a bit of a grassy flavor that develops while drinking the beer more and it overtakes the tropical flavors.

Mouthfeel: The beer is very clean. It has a very dry finish that ends like a staccato note; very quick and pointedly. The body is very light.

Overall: I really enjoyed the beer and I thought the tropical flavors were fantastic. I would buy it again and I would recommend it. It is a very hop-centric beer and I really enjoy that it delivers a clean drinking experience loaded with hops that exude wonderful tropical fruit. It is a winner in my book.

12oz can poured into a pint glass.

A: Dull copper color. Good clarity. Fine bubbled white head settles after a while. Thin rings of lacing.

S: Juicy hop notes of passion fruit, melon rind, and kiwi. Big notes of papaya. Green grass. Perhaps some bubblegum. Soft notes of wheat and grain.

T: Juicy hops front and center. Papaya in a big way. Cantaloupe. Tangy passion fruit. Earthy with some soft pine and bark notes. Grassy. Slight bitter bite, but only slight. Fairly neutral malt base brings bready grain and wheat. Trailing juicy and grassy finish.

M: Medium-light body. Full, fluffy, and even a bit silky. Acute carbonation scrubs and adds a deep, crisp bite. Great body and feel.

O: Full of juicy hop flavor and supremely crushable. The body strikes the perfect balance between substance and lightness. You can't ask for much more. This is perfectly suited to the 12pk can format too. Rip 'em down and be happy.

A: Poured from the can - yes, can - into a Piraat tulip/snifter-type glass. Body is a very pale yellow or golden. Small white head on top.

S: Cat pee. Hint of florally and earthy hops too.

T: Interesting - some pine, some dankness, some bitter citrus (think lemon zest or grapefruit peel) - all over a very faint, straw-like malt profile.

M: Highly carbonated; leaves a bit of sweetness on the lips. Light in heft.

O: Good. Not sure what they were going for here - it drinks sorta like a Session IPA, but the ABV is too high for that and there's too much fruitiness in the taste for that too.

Poured into a teku pint. Bottom of can says 192 6.

A- Pours a clean medium golden color with a full inch of off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves large clots behind.

S- Nice aroma of citrusy hops and just enough malt sweetness.

T- This is my last can of the 12-pack and every time I take the first sip I'm not immediately impressed. It's light in the hop flavor and bitterness and actually a tad watery. But the more you drink it, the more the flavors and bite come through. By the fifth sip, you're loving it because it's equal parts tasty, bitter and crushable. Mainly a citrus hop character, slightly spicy and just enough malt presence to balance.

M- Slightly sharp from the hops with medium carbonation and a light body.

O- This is what my idea of a "Session IPA" is. The body is in line with that of a Session IPA but still substantial enough to keep me interested and the hop profile is such that it makes me want to keep sipping and sipping. This entire 12-pack was enjoyable from start to finish.

Pours out a lighter golden/orange with a creamy white head.

Aroma is very citrus and tropical forward. Mango, pineapple. papaya, orange peel, bit of grapefruit. There's a touch of pine and dankness as well.

The taste follows the nose very well. Definite juicy orange, tangerine notes followed by mango, pineapple, papaya and then switches to more pine and dank notes mid-palate. Big on the bright tropical and citrus notes overall. Has these new juicier hop notes along with classic West Coast IPA notes too.

Lighter side of medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel, decent bitterness.

Great first canned offering from Lagunitas! Can't wait for the 12pks!

Appearance - Pours relatively clear and golden yellow in color with an off-white, half finger width head. Fair retention before it settles with a thin, consistent layer of suds across the surface.

Smell - Sharp aroma, hitting on pineapple, mango and ruby red grapefruit.

Taste - Follows the nose, but with more mellow character. Red grapefruit and pineapple lead the way, with lesser hints of orange. Sweet, bready malt backbone. Light spice. Finishes with good balance, and a faint citrus pith bitterness
lingers in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Light in body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, easy drinker with a crisp finish.

Overall - Another Lags beer with their signature flavor profile written all over it. That said, this one is lighter and very easy to drink. A great summer brew, and cans make it a good outdoors option.

A thanks to the founding father of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of tropical fruits, some herbal notes. Taste is mango, pineapple, light malts, very easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a fine beer.

Clear, straw colored. Foamy white head, not much lacing left behind. Smell is piney hops. Taste is piney, slightly sweet. Dominant Cascade hop flavor with a nice caramely malt backbone - a taste that runs through a lot of Lagunitas brews. Resinous and crisp on the mouthfeel. Tasty, it disappeared quickly. A very flavorful pale ale.

Not a big fan of this beer. There's subdued citrus flavors in the nose and in the taste, but the main thing that strikes me is that the taste and smell remind me of BO. I find it hard to get past that perception. I'm not sure what they were going for but to me it's a mess, I don't find a lot to like about it, I wouldn't buy it again. JMHO.

Slightly hazy very pale gold with an incher head that's a little creamy and a little soapy. Smell is a mix of classic fruity whole-leaf hoppage with mango, pineapple, and a little aspirin. Thin, sizzly body bubbles across the tongue, leaving an astringent, bitter, herbal mess where the good balanced flavor should be. A bit of mid-range honey can't match the amped up high frequencies here.

From a mix pack of beers gifted to me, I wish I could tell if this is fresh or not, but the jumble of random number on the bottom of the can tell me nothing. I'll give it another try if I can find some with a fresh date on it, but judging from this, it's "pale, cold, slightly alcoholic, and bitter" and not my flavor profile or mouthfeel preference at all.

Musical Equivalent: The overly bright and metallic tone of an Ovation acoustic/electric plugged direct into a PA at your town's annual Spring celebration by a guy covering CCR.

I bought this beer off the Binnys single shelf. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent is orange peel with touch of pine. The taste is nicely balanced and easy to drink. There is pine and citrus peel throughout. The Mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a great beer.

Sorry, I've had about a half dozen Lagunitas IPA varieties so far & this one was by far the worst. Sure, there's some hop in there but it's not all that pleasant; not clear citrus, grassy, or pine flavours & there are also some near-adjunct flavours as well. This could be their attempt at a session beer without calling it that, but the feel and taste are both somewhat watery as well. Hop Stoopid is my favourite of theirs so far & I've ranked it in the top 10 best IPAs I've had but this one does not come close.

Can to plastic cup. Somewhere about 35,000 feet above New Jersey. Sint Maarten or Bust. 9:39am. Breakfast of Champions.

LOOK: pale straw color, cremy white head. Not sure if the cabin pressure is assisting, but head retention seems excellent.

AROMA: Some oak and floral notes, lighter pine. Touch of honey.
TASTE: more pine in the taste than in the aroma, a little bitey but not unpleasant. Vegetable. Some soapiness.
FEEL: Creamy and smooth, medium body.

OVERALL: Could be better on flavor with a touch of more sweetness or some stronger bitter flavors. Otherwise, well crafted.

12oz can purchased at Total Wine in Lynnwood, Washington, no BB date, poured into a pint glass.

Look- Not much to look at. Clear amber color with minimal head and head retention as it goes down.

Smell- Smells like sunshine! Brilliant sweet candied lemon, fresh tangerine rind and all I can describe as is the smell of canned pineapple slices.

Taste- Follows the nose, with light mango in the background and a little piney bitterness at the end.

Feel- Easy drinking (Bit watery) with light carbonation and no massive bitter bite.

Great summer beer and widely available in most grocery and convenience stores (Here in the Pac NW at least). Disappointed I didn't try this sooner!

L: Poured from a can to a pint glass. Had a bright, golden yellow color and a clear consistency. There was a half inch of foamy head that lasted an average amount of time. Not much lacing here.

S: An enticing aroma of hops, citrus, other light fruits, and bready malt.

T: Tasted of a small amount of bready malt (very unobtrusive), a lot of hops (not too much), lots of citrus (grapefruit, lemon), a hint of coconut, and a ton of tropical fruit (papaya). An extremely light, lively, fruity flavor with a lot of character. Quite a good balance between the fruit elements and the hops.

F: A highly carbonated beer with a slightly slick finish. Light-bodied.

O: An excellently lightweight APA that's easy to drink. Much more complexity than your typical beer of the style.
