Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Tropically Hoppy. Light, yet Full-Bodied. Bright and Citrusy. Word.

The magical, mystical 12th of Never is a blend of Old and New School hops that play bright citrus, rich coconut, and papaya-esque flavors, all on a solid stage of English puffed wheat. Tropically hoppy. Light, yet full-bodied. Bright and citrusy. The 12th of Never Ale is everything we’ve learned about making hop-forward beer expressed in a moderate voice. Pale, cold, slightly alcoholic and bitter. It’s all we know.

These 12oz mini-kegs (AKA cans) are an exciting new option for us, and we are stoopid stoked at the opportunity for y’all to take us to all those new, nelophobic locations…

I normally enjoy most of the beers made by Lagunitas. Thus one totally let me down. Save your money or buy something worth drinking.

Slightly hazy very pale gold with an incher head that's a little creamy and a little soapy. Smell is a mix of classic fruity whole-leaf hoppage with mango, pineapple, and a little aspirin. Thin, sizzly body bubbles across the tongue, leaving an astringent, bitter, herbal mess where the good balanced flavor should be. A bit of mid-range honey can't match the amped up high frequencies here.

From a mix pack of beers gifted to me, I wish I could tell if this is fresh or not, but the jumble of random number on the bottom of the can tell me nothing. I'll give it another try if I can find some with a fresh date on it, but judging from this, it's "pale, cold, slightly alcoholic, and bitter" and not my flavor profile or mouthfeel preference at all.

Musical Equivalent: The overly bright and metallic tone of an Ovation acoustic/electric plugged direct into a PA at your town's annual Spring celebration by a guy covering CCR.

I am not a fan of overly hopped beers.I would consider this an IPA as compared to an APA . The taste is dominated by pine and citrus and there is no balance of hops and malts.

A: Pours a soapy 2 finger head that dissipates. Color is yellow green, almost mountain dew-esque.

S: Bright hops, with a unique smell I can't quite place. Citrus? Papaya?

T: A little bit of creamy wheat, then some tingling hop bitterness, but there's no plan. No thesis.

O: This beer was a mess. Immediately the appearance was off. The taste had a bunch of seemingly random flavors that were all misfiring. The misplaced carbonation is probably the worst culprit. It just didn't have any business being that fizzy and it didn't play well for me. I took a few sips and did not finish the beer.

As with most things, ratings are subjective.
Cloudy amber, ample head.
Citrusy aroma, dominant taste of grapefruit. Some may like this, I do not.

L - Straw coloured with slight haze. Heads clears to lacing.
S -Soft citrus and some tropical fruit scents
T - Fresh, quite dry, notes of tropical fruits with perhaps a little citrus/lychee lingering.
M - It's yet another painfully fashionable very hoppy beer. At 5.5% though, it brings some body to the overall feel.
O - The labelling is either kiddy or fun depending on your age/mood :) - '.... at best? It's twelve oz of malt, hops, yeast, love and vibe in a solution of dihydrogen oxide captured in an alumin-yum wrapper...'. Then there's a whole spiel about the River Styx and winged monkey, for people who care about 'our story' stuff like that on the wrapper...

Not a big fan of this beer. There's subdued citrus flavors in the nose and in the taste, but the main thing that strikes me is that the taste and smell remind me of BO. I find it hard to get past that perception. I'm not sure what they were going for but to me it's a mess, I don't find a lot to like about it, I wouldn't buy it again. JMHO.

Can to plastic cup. Somewhere about 35,000 feet above New Jersey. Sint Maarten or Bust. 9:39am. Breakfast of Champions.

LOOK: pale straw color, cremy white head. Not sure if the cabin pressure is assisting, but head retention seems excellent.

AROMA: Some oak and floral notes, lighter pine. Touch of honey.
TASTE: more pine in the taste than in the aroma, a little bitey but not unpleasant. Vegetable. Some soapiness.
FEEL: Creamy and smooth, medium body.

OVERALL: Could be better on flavor with a touch of more sweetness or some stronger bitter flavors. Otherwise, well crafted.

Sorry, I've had about a half dozen Lagunitas IPA varieties so far & this one was by far the worst. Sure, there's some hop in there but it's not all that pleasant; not clear citrus, grassy, or pine flavours & there are also some near-adjunct flavours as well. This could be their attempt at a session beer without calling it that, but the feel and taste are both somewhat watery as well. Hop Stoopid is my favourite of theirs so far & I've ranked it in the top 10 best IPAs I've had but this one does not come close.
