What would ever possess a brewery to add a solid brown ale to pino noire barrels? The answer likely lies in the transformation to inlcude a taste where oude bruin, flander's red and wild ale converge. It's enough to have the head spinning with "W.T.F." ...again.

Bleached brown and cast in a slight haze, W.T.Farmhouse tops with a short, loose froth while the overwhelming aromas of red wine, pepper, acidity and toast swirling about the nose. Mild sweetness but robust malt peripherial flavors of caramel, toast, fructose, light chocolate and a pep of honey come together for a steely sweetness on the early palate.

Malt sweetness shows a quick fade while the toasty, cocoa and modest coffee notes hang around to embrace the barrel influence that proves quite strong on the middle palate. A host of red berry, grape and tartness splash the tastebuds with a robust red wine taste. Peppery, oaken, and lightly bittered, the beer trends dry and spicy on the late palate with a tart and refreshing texture looming.

Medium light on the palate, the remnants of brown ale retain enough of a presence to pull the ale into a medium textured range, but the red wine dryness and tartness does the opposite into a dry, peppery and vinous realm. A return of cellar must, cork and vinous booze spice up the finish and ensure a medium long afterglow of wine soaked oak.

On tap at the source. A very hazy rusty copper color with a thin and fleeting tan head. The nose was funky with hay, bread, straw, and cherries. Pretty much the same on the palate. A thick, sticky funk with some bitterness. Also tart cherries and oranges. A dry bready malt presence. More funk than I expected which was nice.
