It’s a dry-hopped California Common with a massive malt character, rounded out by a bitter balance from some experimental hops from the Yakima Valley, this beer will leave you saying ‘I’ll be bock!’

I am not abit surprised, but this bock is pretty inaccurate to the style and instantly recognizable as a Lagunitas brew. Why is that with nearly all their products?

It pours kind of golden (darker would be more accurate). It smells like Lagunitas.

The taste is malty, for sure, but mostly signature Lagunitas hops and water. The aftertaste lingers nice and bitter and malty on the tongue.

When I bought this I figured it would be a big Lag styled brew, and it neither surprised or disappointed.

Recommended, if you want a Lag styled beer that may be something like a bock.

lagunitas is surely capable, but very few of their lagers have hit the way the original pils does, and this is another one that left me wanting a little more. they call it a california common, but i dont get any of that warmer fermented lager yeast character, it seems just sort of bready and simple, not really german either despite the concurrent bock designation, this is just sort of weirdly strong, generic in a lot of ways, not not quite what i was hoping it would be. a little more pale in color than expected for either a steam type or a bock, but not totally blonde either, somewhere in between with an average white head and excellent carbonation both visually and on the palate. the nose and taste are about the same, a little copper metallic thing among the grain, a little monotone there, only slightly sweet which saves it, a little nutty and a little baked and warm, no sign of the alcohol, and with some hop bitterness beyond what is standard i reckon, very lagunitas, but maybe not as distinct as it could be on the hops. subtle caramel, almond, soil, and even a slight woody element, a little bit to the finish, and a light bready yeast element, obvious as a lager strain i guess, but not distinct in that warmer fermentation temperature way. medium body, less sweet than expected, nicely carbonated. it will get you drunk, no denying that, but its another underwhelming lager from lagunitas that can be filed away with the likes of lagur, secret agenda, tuberfest, and the like...

Bottle from Winco. Beautiful pour, deep amber with a lasting thick, creamy head. Nice malty aroma, grainy. Taste has a gentle sweetness, malty, caramel, toffee, butterscotch. Smooth and silky. Creamy lager goes down smooth.

On tap at Tap41. Great lacing and color, semi-hazy. Nose is just tons of hop - Citra, Cascade, Mosaic. Orange and grapefruit and floral notes everywhere. Flavor starts out like a sharp hoppy session IPA but tapers off immediately to a quaffable easy drinking floral and sweet malt treat. Nicely done. Recommended.

[Original rating 2017-06-22] Bomber from the government Alcohol Control store. Pours clear copper with a medium off white head. Aroma of pine, earth, leather, flowers. Taste of sweet caramel and malt, very well balanced with bitter hops. Slight booze in the finish. I find a lot of Lagunitas beers tend to remind me of other Lagunitas beers, but not this one. I need to get me some more.

16oz pint at THG.

A: Served a clear nutty copper color with a greasy cap of off-white foam that faded into a lasting film. Sheets of wispy lace were left down the glass.
S: Fresh hoppy spicy/resinous/herbal quality with a bready, slightly sweet, malty backbone. Earthy and peppery.
T: Surprisingly hoppy flavors follow the nose with spicy/herbal hops mixed with toasted malt, mild smokyish quality and a kind of savory umami quality. I get a kiss of overripe fruit, and a hint of that slightly burnt plastic flavor reminiscent of a bad Fantome bottle.
M: medium full body, thick and chewy mouthfeel, solid bitterness. Thick, soft, creamy carbonation.
O: Decent overall but there was something weird going on that was off-putting. Might have to revisit again and re-review.

Unbelievable lager. The nose is very malty and a bit of hops. You don't find many beers (Rogue Nut Brown) with that true malt smell.

Great head...the flavor is unreal for the high ABV. Malty, mildly hopped, well balanced, but with that clean lager taste.

Very good. Highest score.

Definitely an American's understanding of a bock. The malt back is there, but I'm more aware of the American hop in the beer, with its piney and some citrusy taste.
An okay brew, I'd prefer a German one.
