Looks. A medium-light Amber full of red-gold, very frothy head.
Smell. High citrusy start, some yeasty. Pine pitch, and settles into an even toned earthiness.
Taste. A mellow start, very mildly malty, followed by a middle of the palette hoppiness characterized by robust body more than a bitterness, mildly dry finish.
Feel. A rich full-bodied feel, with decent sparkle.
Overall. nice robust drinkable beer got for one or two on the porch at the end of the day. Good for a hearty full bodied meal.

Why does this beer get such average rating? I like this best out of all the Lagunitas beers because it's the best of both worlds--the worlds being stouts and IPAs. Creamy & caramel-y lik a chocolate stout, but still got the well known, classically cliche Lagunitas hops. Great head, but who f**king cares when it's the perfect post-meal drink to seal the deal?

Excellent hoppy taste for such a high alcohol beer (9.3%). Definitely an anniversary beer--not an everyday drinker.

Poured a nice deep mahogany with burnt sienna hues in the light. Nice white piling cap that lasted and laced all over. The aroma is of caramel, pine, bit of herbal tea, honey, and hints of grapefruit. The flavor is of the above but also develops a mild hint of toffee as it warms. This almost has an English barleywine tone to it, which is both surprising and pleasant. A very delicious, well made beer.

Bottle side poured into tulip. NOT RETIRED!!!
A- Deep brown copper colored with A fluffy fingers worth head.
S- A dance of hop and malt dominate the nose with sweet overtones.
T- Taste picks up where the nose leads and leaves off. Big hops bite at first sip and finish very sweet and rich of malt. Not overly dry, nicely balanced.
M- Medium- full bodied ale but not syrupy as I have commonly found in ales this sweet.
O- I'm so glad they brewed this ale again. I remember is being a lot hoppier from the last time I had it but I am certainly not complaining. I am going to have to agree with reviewers past. It is a stretch to classify this as a DIPA/IIPA as it is a bit on the malty side of things. All this considered, great story that's associated with this product. Would buy again and again. Cheers.
