Poured into a pint glass. Had this after some light Gardening on a sunny day. Enjoyed with a bit of Dark Chocolate.

Nice smoke from the bottle.

Copper, thin head vanishing but quick. The lacing was Grand!

Malty caramel. Very nice Floral aroma.

Simple at first, subtle in time ... malty caramel foundation, from which spicy floral fruit doth spring. Well hidden at first is the booze, then, towards the first pint's end, a most tasty burn.

I strongly suggest a six pack, this tasty maze of a brew has a session destiny!

More of a ginger because of its personality after you've had a couple.
But.
Lucky 13 leaves some amazing lacing. Good abiding head as well. This beer is Dr Pepper and Welch's Grape Soda duking it out with yeast, as far as the aromatics are concerned. A little bit of that comes through in the flavor, and the smokiness is more like a kiss. It's on the cherry side, and very fruity, and whatever actual smoked note really comes through towards the back end. Definite bit of salt, and slightly tabascoey flavor with some cracker and resin. Provides some burn with its 8.8% abv profile. i.e. Get some meat inside. Or, on top of some form of grain derived delivery device: and enjoy. Or, drink it.

6-Pack from Vons; first tried it last year. Not my favorite Lagunitas brew. I got it mostly for the high potency.

L: Into a wide goblet, it pours a dark burnt orange-copper color, vertical streams of tiny bubbles rise in swirling lines with a moderately gentle pour that summons two fingers of fine foam. The body is perfectly clear, with a frothy beige head that lingers as a film and leaves sticky lacing.

S: Those Amarillo hops are noticeable. Tropical esters of nectarine, passion fruit, guava, papaya, and orange rind cover a toasty, roasty oat bran backbone like jam, a little bit of molasses marries the two.

T: Danker than expected for an 8.8%, although the booze is well-hidden. Barleywine flavors of prune, plum, Roast coffee, and dark chocolate are prominent, with just a hint of guava and papaya and clear blood orange on the finish (the saving grace is that there is no grapefruit), not much other fruity flavors penetrate that thick malt profile.

F: Perfect consistency, not too thick, very smooth, and a little creamy, but there's a sour/bitter/salty flavor like soy-sauce that clings to the tongue a little too long.

O: Great brew, but a little too salty, and inappropriately roasty in my opinion.

Pour is dark bronze orange sunburst with minimal slightly sticky lacing and a quickly receding cm thick head. Smell is warm and Lagunita-y. The taste is surprisingly mild, smoky yet bitey, with a velvet texture. It's 8.8% is well hidden. This has probably been the only beer from Lagunitas that doesn't have that strange malty after taste for me.

This golden orange/copper ale poures magnificently with an unfiltered-like look but still quite a bit transparent. Pretty white lingering head with spotty lacing. Smell is VERY NICE, layers upon layers of lush fruity/tropical hops - the dank ones Lagunitas is known for, some detectable booze, a little sour fruit as well. Taste matches up to the note, an almost IPA-like taste with a little creamier malt quality. Washes down excellently, goes great with a garlicy buschemel pasta. I have come to really love Lagunitas.

L -- Pours a clear orange-hued amber with a three-finger off white head that dissipates quickly. Moderate lacing.
S -- Floral notes, pineapple, brown sugar, caramel malts, and a slight boozy kick.
T -- Sweet malt backbone supports the robust floral and fruity hops without being too syrupy.
F -- Medium mouthfeel with a more-or-less balanced palate. The booziness shines through a little much, but that's what gives this brew so much character!
O -- Reminds me a lot of Troegs Nugget Nectar

After looking at a dozen cases of beer at the local walk-in freezer i chose this, "limited release" the box says, pretty lil senorita with a horse shoe on the bottle too. Color is the same of the last randomly chosen ipa ive purchased, the typical orange hue, so i gave it a 3.5, smell wise, holy moly this stuffs damn good funky. The most pleasantly pungent brew ive ever smelled, literally like sour diesel medical grade cannabis, the sour piney hops most definitely had to have originated or be closely related to the magical flower. Taste very sweet & complex cold in the bottle but bland when left to warm in a glass. Feel eh? Doesn't "sting my tounge as id like an ipa to, but the flavors sweet & very complex, cant tell. Feel? I dont feel like ive had a "hearty meal" in a bottle & i literally just loaded up on a chinese buffet, maybe this is best with a few tacos? But ill definitely be crushing through this 6 pack easily, as with other beer, even with lower alc% than this Languitas red ale, i've felt satisfied with just two. Overall a fair beer if searching for an ipa with, smell & taste.

From notes taken 09/15/16:

Bright orange copper but neon yellow near the top. Mostly clear with consistent haze. Foamy head is lemony tan, retains well. Strong resin, dried fruit, caramel aromas. Touch of dark fruit, sweet orange, booze. Palate is caramel, toast, raisin, apricot, cherries, wet paper, added sugar, with resiny to piney to soapy hops, overly perfumey, alcohol well-balanced, peppercorn retro-olfaction. Full-bodied, boozey heat, fine tingly suds, finishing creamy.

Spot on amber hue with an inch of creamy tan head resting on top. Heavy lacing. The aroma is amber lightly bready malt with a hint of alcohol. The taste also showcases aggressive piney hops, sourdough bready malt, and touch of malty dry alcoholic taste that would be similar to a barleywine. The mouth is very dry and crisp.

A: crystal clear; ruby colored; with a fairly aggressive pour, a 2 finger off white head that receded to a thin cap; very nice lacing;

S: orange, earthy, caramel, pineapple;

T: follows the nose from start to finish; mild bitterness at the end; more hops than a standard red - better balance;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish; alcohol is warming - matches the ABV;

O: easy drinking; ABV sneaks up and bites you;

Strong out of the gate, hoppy, fruitful, and very flavorful, fades quickly with a caramel malty after-taste.

Bottle dated 139th day of 2016 or May 19. DFH tulip.

A: pours a clear dark red/copper with little visible carb and 1 finger of thick, frothy khaki head that recedes to a big bubbly island and a thin ring. Some lacing and great retention.

S: Lagunitas all the way. It smells like Brown Shugga and Sucks; sweet, tropical, kiwi, blood oranges, mandarin oranges, juniper (plant, not berry). Grapefruit rind.

T: heavenly arrival; tropical fruit salad. Instantly turns powerfully sweet, and then right at the end hops and alcohol assert themselves. Big beer, sip slowly. Grapefruit peel and pine aspects assert themselves boldly at the end. Juniper and alcohol linger.

M: midweight, slick, but not as slick as Brown Shugga. More carb on the palate than on the finish.

O: this really reminds me of Brown Shugga: everything I love about it and everything I hate about it. The aroma is out of this world, and the taste is too, right when it arrives, but the alcohol and hops are a little overbearing for me this time of year. I think I would love this in March. I liken this to an American Strong Ale, and I have a local favorite that edges this out. Probably won't buy again.

Pours a hazy copper hue with a tight, one-inch, cream-colored head. Nose expresses notes of caramel and earthy/piney hops. Taste consistent with nose. Very malt forward; however, some oxidized notes come out towards the back. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body (closer to medium) with an even carbonation and a slight prickle. Overall, a solid amber albeit perhaps a hint past its prime.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle
Served in a Lagunitas Jar
Bottled on: April 14th, 2016
Reviewed on: August 14th, 2016

Eyes
Clear amber body with a massive off-white head. Tons of lacing, super sticky looking. Body was clean for the most part but a layer of particles, almost looked like yeast from a Wit, gathered at the bottom of the glass.

Nose
Sweet malts dominated the aroma. Caramel. Pine. Touch of mango, pineapple, and orange.

Taste
Tropical hops: mango, pineapple, orange, and a light bitter layer of grapefruit. Dense layer of caramel-heavy malts. Finished out semi-dry with a flare-up of herbal hops.

Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Consistency felt heavier as the beer warmed up, consume quickly!

Notes
Big ale! Hops and malts were well represented. This review was based on a bottle with 4 months on it and I gotta say, it did not lose much punch! Yet another great offering from Lagunitas.

This beer pours a very clear pale amber with a large head. The aroma is complex, with pine, citrus, pineapple, green apple, candy, cinnamon, and earthy dank hops. The flavor is a bit more contained, with bright resin, candy, citrus, and some earthy spice. The mouthfeel is bright and medium bodied. Overall this is a really nice beer - the flavor is very complex, but everything is also integrated, making a single great whole.

Pours - Deep red color with decent off white to tan head, excellent lacing.

Smell - Rich malts, sweet caramel, toast, also getting a good bit of pine and some hoppiness.

Taste - Sweet malts, bread, little bit of spices, caramel.

Feel - Medium body, no sense of the alcohol, good carbonation.

Overall - A very solid beer, I like the sweet flavor mixed with the hoppy bitterness.

Poured 12 bottle into snifter. Darker amber with some rust color and 3 finger dirty white head that slowly fades into a cap and leaves webbed lacing all over my glass. Sweet and roasted malts, caramel with some breadiness. Bitter piney hops follow along with citrus.Sweet malts and caramel up front overtaken by hops in the middle and finish. Some citrus, more bitter pine and a bit of earthiness dominate after the malts. Finish is a nice pine bitter.Medium body and very good carbonation with a bitter and dry finish. Solid beer from Lags that reminds me of a few local offerings.

Poured from a bottle into a Pilsner.
A: half a finger off-white head, fades quickly, nice moderate lacing, clear orange red color
S: citrus and herbal hops, malt, fruity, a bit of mango, like you just coated a mango with lemon oil and hit it hard with a hammer
T: buttery cream, citrus and herbal hops, malt, a bit of pine, an incredibly enjoyable and complex flavor, a hint of fruit and a tiny bit of bread or yeast
M: creamy, thick, chewy
O: a magnificent and mighty red ale, one of the best I've ever tasted (which is not that many), one of my new all-time favorite ales!

From a bottle bought at Trader Joe's, pours a clear dark amber with a thin beige head. Aroma is definitely dominated by hops. The tasting is where the caramely malts really come forward. The finish has a tartness like grapefruit. Overall, really very solid.

I tried this one not very fresh, so I wasn't intending to review it. It really was very good, though, so I had to chime in here. The first thing that hit me was the huuuuuge tropical fruit aroma, which is crazy because this bottle must have been at least two months old. Great fluffy white head, nice flavor. A winner. Would love to try it fresh.

12oz bottle poured in a spiegelau glass.
Look - a deep copper color with a gigantic off-white head composed of bubbles of all sizes. The head is nice and creamy and has some great retention and thick lacing.
Smell - sweet caramel and bready malts are most prominent, but you also get some pine resin and juicy citrus.
Taste - this beer has an excellent blend of toasty sweet malts and hop bitterness. The strongest notes are caramel, pine, and grapefruit. Sweetness overpowers the hoppy notes, but the hop characteristics still shine through.
Feel - moderate carbonation, medium body, and relatively smooth finish.

The aroma of this beer is all juicy, fruity hops and the palate follows the nose. While the flavor is predominantly that of the hops, the bitterness is attenuated by the malt backbone of the red ale, leaving a taste that is just REALLY juicy.
