Pours a rich copper to brown body beneath the rocky, off white head which eventually subsides to leave scattered, sticky lacing clinging to the glass.

Abundant aromas of hops and sweet malt bound from the glass. Malts are caramel or molasses while the hops are spicy, floral, and herbal.

The nose was more hops than than malt, but the flavor is more balanced. The spicy and herbal hops really kick in as it warms. The floral hops and sweet malts lead the way initially.

Medium to fuller in body with medium carbonation and a rich, full finish.

This is a nice Red Ale, more malty than some of its counterparts but packed with character.

Bomber to snifter, bottled March 22nd

Pours a very dark copper with some nice red hues in the middle of the glass. Two fingers of foam have receded to a half finger and left behind some lice lacing. Moderate carbonation stemming from the center, good visibility, maybe a touch of cloud in the middle. Looks pretty good, a bit light for a red , though

Smells of strong citrus and floral hops, very spicy and resinous. Big sweet caramel grains, some pine and earthiness, honey and a finish of alcohol. Hops and the malts come together really well, spicy and sweet with toasted malt

Taste is upfront piney hops, underscored by a strong lasting grapefruit. Caramel malts compose a good foundation giving it a sweet and toasted lining. Not as rich and big in the mouth as the nose, but still highly enjoyable

Feel is a nice moderate body with a spicy kick. Mildly carbonated, finishes a bit wet with some good bitterness. Alcohol is well concealed, very drinkable

Overall an amazing beer for the price. I think I like the .alt version better, but would recommend this one to pretty much anyone

A - Bright copper pout with streaking lacing running down. Small bubbles of carbonation, and very clear.

S - Smells of sweet malts. Some njotes of caramel and berries is present.

T - Solid malt scent that has some flavors of berries and caramel. There is a finish of dry hops that have as much earthy flavors as bitterness.

M - For the ABV this is wildly drinkable and an impressivle robust amber. Could be a favorite for malt lovers.

22 oz. bottle, no apparent bottled on date present. Excited to try this offering from Lagunitas, as it is one I haven't tried before. I have had the Lagunitas Lucky 13.alt, which I remember enjoying, and I am looking forward to trying this one.

Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A - Pours two thick fingers of creamy fluffy tan head on top of a beautiful coppery chestnut colored body with lots of sediment floating around the glass. Looks very nice. Despite the haze of the sediment, the beer is mostly clear. Second pour yields three giant fingers of fluffy heady, with very nice thick sheets of lacing.

S - Smell is of the same pungent citric grapefruit hop extract smell that encompasses most Lagunitas beers. Roasted caramel malts. Almost a light vanilla scent in there somewhere as the beer warms a bit.

T - Taste is of tart, bitter hop presence. Some earthy, woody, nutty flavors are also present. Faint hint of dark cherry bitterness, dry earth, and some spicy cracked peppercorns / rye. Some noticeable alcohol heat, but this beer's 8.90% abv is masked nicely. A tasty imperial red ale, not straying too far from the norm, but definitely a solid tasting brew.

M - Feel is bitter, resinous, creamy & somewhat dry in the finish. Earthy nuttiness & peppery rye retains it's flavor throughout.

Overall, not straying too far from what the typical imperial amber / red ale is like, with a nice peppery bite to it. Nice 8.90% abv remains well-hidden, this beer goes down remarkably smooth for such a high alcohol beer. Nothing super spectacular, but for $5 a bottle of quality beer, you definitely can't beat anything by Lagunitas.
