Clean this mess up or else we'll all end up in jail...those test tubes and the scale...just get 'em all outta here..." He was referring to the complex super-critical-CO2 hop extraction equipment set up on the table in the lab across from the brewhouse. Hop extracts are for the BIG brewers, he thought - suitable only for crummy sub-standard and barely-passable industrial lagers, not the subtle and elegant craft beer made here. But wrong he was. The New Brewer does not eschew any possible inputs. In this case the mountain of extracts will replace the mountain of hop vegetative material in the kettle thus creating cleaner hop flavors and preventing the otherwise spinach-like mess of a kettle full of super-hopped wort from clogging up a pump or worse. The sensuous honey-like amber ooze was administered intravenously to the wort kettle and the sacrament was complete. Another kettle of Hop Stoopid is once again raised up and fermented on high.

Randomly just picked this up today. Decided that I might as well review some ‘classic’ beers that I’ve tried many times but never reviewed. Drank from my Surlyfest mug while watching Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland.
Appearance- Pours a crystal clear light orange yellowish with a fairly small foamy white cap (even from an aggressive pour). A decent collar and spotty cap remains but no lacing at all.
Smell- Very fruity and super nice. Plenty of tropical fruits right from the start with loads of mango and pineapple. That ever so present grapefruit is right there as well. A bit more of a crystal malt sweetness sneaks in than I’m used to in these big tropical IPA’s but different is good! Touches of caramel and a lightly toasted malts.
Taste- I think the nose has more of a hoppy tropical fruitiness than the taste does. Starts with a bitter bite and a surprising amount of alcohol. Not enough to ruin the beer but more than I like in my IPA’s. Tons of grapefruit pith as the raw bitterness is really potent. Touches of mango and pineapple do sneak in though (especially in the aftertaste) but for the most part I just get that grapefruit. Enough malt sweetness in the flavor to cut the bitter but definitely not as much caramel as the nose led me to believe. The finish is clean with a touch of alcohol and a nice lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel- Nice full body with a light clean bite of carbonation. Somewhat dry too with a fair amount of warming.
Drinkability- So after reading the label I see this is all hop oils/hop extracts. I think that probably explains the raw sort of hop bitterness that seems to be sort of one dimensional. Saying that though, the beer is still really tasty. I wish the booze was toned down a touch but otherwise I enjoyed the shit out of this beer. Definitely a great brew for $5!

Lagunitas is stupid. This beer is disgusting and really sucks for how popular it is.

I wasn’t an IPA fan until a trip to California a few years ago. One of the best memories was a 22oz of the Hop Stoopid.
This batch (6 pack in Ohio) tastes nice and fresh. With this offering from Lagunitas, I actually like the smell better than the taste. There is a delightful pineapple scent.
This is a a tasty IPA that doesn’t disappoint!

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Julian date of 0238, so appears to have been bottled in August of 2020. Quote a bit older than preferred, but here goes ..
Looks fantastic in the glass. Clear deep golden yellow body. Bright foamy white head persists in very good form throughout, leaving excellent lacing.
There is an aroma, pleasant, but hard to describe.
On tasting, it's strong, quite sweet, and although the hops have faded, there is still a hint of clean bitterness. The abv is apparent.
Mouth close to full, finish bittersweet.
Overall, at this age, still a decent drink. Will re-review if I find one fresh off the line and it's significantly different.
