DATE: November 5, 2017... OCCASION: preparing for a short week of school with a promising "new" pale ale... GLASSWARE: Howard's Pub pint... cracks and sizzles out the bottle, creating a clear golden yellow body with an upward shower of carbonation... the white head is half-finger thick, bubbly and substantial... lemon zest and light grapefruit are first to be experienced.. bread malts are toasted and palpable... as a pale, this doesn't demand attention, but it definitely doesn't disappoint either... first sip is smooth, somewhat weighty and medium-bodied--textured to the throat, and lingering once there... dry and sharp... the malts actually show up first in the flavor profile, toasted and sweet--not at all what I expected! The secondary experience is lemon, earthy resin, grapefruit, and a tropical fruit that grows in its tangibility as the glass drains... in short, another hop-forward, drinker-friendly offering from Lagunitas... definitely a toned-down profile, thought at 6.2%, ABV, still worth one's attention... better than the sum of its parts...

Appearance is a clear amber with white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a pleasant citrus with hoppy accent. Taste is also a pleasant citrus with some hoppy accent.

Bottle poured into a Lagunitas mason jar

A: Pours golden orange amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer and laces very nicely.

S: Citrus instantly countered with dank herbal notes, pine, hints of tropical fruit, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

T: Dank herbal notes, citrus, grapefruit, orange, and lemon, pine, just a hint of tropical fruit, papaya, mango, and pineapple, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Classic old school Lagunitas. Really solid pale ale.

L: Clear golden orange with a massive foamy white head. Excellent retention, sheets of lacing.

S: Orange and grapefruit zest, citrus oils just ripping into your nostrils, like freshly shredded orange peels. Intensely zesty and zippy. Smells dank and grassy...not unlike marijuana, as well. A bit of biscuity malt backbone and typical Lagunitas chemical/rubber, but mostly huge ripping citrus and weed.

T: Follows the nose exactly. Enormous fresh oranges and grapefruit. The sharpest and most acidic aspects of the fruits. Like all the oils of the skin condensed into a juice. Extremely zesty, sharp, orange and grapefruit. Some sweetness, like the juice of a ripe pink grapefruit. A bit of biscuit malt backbone, earthy, with characteristic rubber/dankness, and a nice weed-like presence. Super citrusy, though. Crisp and dry on the backend, with a bit of lingering citrus peel bitterness.

F: Medium-light bodied, light enough to be refreshing and crushable, but heavy enough to please the palate. Moderate to medium-high carbonation, smooth and boisterous on the tongue. Finishes crisp and dry.

O: An incredible pale ale. This bottle is super fresh and it's delicious. It's super hoppy but hits the marks in every conceivable way. Simply a pleasure to drink. Amazing!

Not my favorite offering from these top-notch masters, but it's a good beer. I wouldn't kick it out of bed, I mean the fridge.

The appearance was a hazy orange to brown color with a decent half finger-ed white foamy head that left some light lacing in a nice spider web sort of fashion. The smell had an ample amount of citrus - like hops to sweet caramel malts, balanced extremely well. The taste was once again extremely balanced. The aftertaste lead with the citrus -like hops and it ended up with a dry finish. On the palate, this one sits about a light to medium with a good sessionable quality about it. There’s a decent harshness pounding my tongue. Overall, I say this is a good APA worthy of having again.

Optics are fine, maybe a bit flat. Aroma is just basic crystal malt with a dash of citrus hops. Very simple & straightforward beer, does reinvent the wheel, malt maybe is a tad sweet & the hops could assert themselves a little more but it is an easy drinker that doesn't miss any marks.

Pours a clear orange gold with a small white head. Smells of sweet malt, citrus, and mild hops. Taste is citrus peel, sweet malts, bitter hops, and maybe caramel. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall this is a pretty great APA, which is not surprise from Lagunitas.
