Wow, one of the first times I cannot BELIEVE how off I feel so many people are (including some quite solid reviewers). "Not very saison like" seems to be a common complaint... not like WHAT saisons?
It does not have the rich fullness of some of the super saisons, or the sour notes... but it has the incredibly distinctive saison yeast character going in full spades. There's little to no spice (what there is, is yeast derived), but that's not necessary for the style. And the funk is mild... but compared to the "saisons" brewed that are thick with too much residual sweetness, and improperly and overly spiced... I don't get how this gets knocked so severely.
I really was hesitant to even waste 3.49 on this, given the negative reviews (and my own previous experience with bad saisons), but I found this refreshing, incredibly drinkable, with proper body, and a mild flavor and aroma. Hops are present but complimentary, just balancing and adding a bit of grass and spicy dryness.
Really, an unfairly maligned beer. I would love to serve this in a blind saison tasting in the early going. And at a ridiculously low price point compared to almost every other saison, a beer that I'll be proud to have on hand.

From 07/29/13 notes. Had on tap at Idle Hands in NYC. Served in a pint glass.
a - Pours a hazy orange-yellow color with one inch of white head and moderate carbonation evident.
s - Smells of bananas, fruity malts, spice, yeast, cloves, floral notes, earthy notes, light pepper. Nice nose, lots of bananas and fruit to it.
t - Tastes of banananas, fruity malts, spices, Belgian yeast, cloves, pepper, earthy notes, and hay. More pepper and spice here, though still nice.
m - Medium body and low carbonation. Pretty easy to drink.
o - Overall I'm surprised to see the overall reviews so low for this one as I liked it quite a bit. It has a lot of fruit and bananas to it, and it is easy to drink. Would order it again.

The beer pours out in a slightly hazy, but very pale golden color.
The aroma is a bit light with a bit of lemon citrus, grainy malt, a hint of that bar yard funk.
The flavor follows with those same notes, but with mostly a lot of blandness. It's quite bready, but some saison notes, but just very muted.
A crisp and easy drinking beer, but does not hit the saison notes strong enough.

Type: 16-oz. draft
Glass: Mason jar
From: Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma, Calif.
Price: $5.00
Purchased: July 17, 2013
Consumed: July 17, 2013
Misc.: N/A
Poured a caramel-orange murky color with 1-2 fingers of cloudy white head when I got it. Good amount of thick lacing along the sides. Forever lasting retention.
Smelled Belgian spices, sour fruit, kiwi, grape, pepper, banana, cloves, Juicy Fruit and some resin notes.
Tasted similar to the nose with Belgian peppery speices, resin hops, cloves, banana, Juicy Fruit, grape and kiwi. Could taste the alcohol for sure.
Light-to-medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Lively-to-high carbonation. Long, bitter finish.
Not quite as good as I hoped, but decent. I probably wouldn’t have it again though.
