If you told me Lagunitas made a junior barleywine, I think this is exactly what I would expect. And that's not a put down in any way. There's a great combination of deep malt, fruit, sweetness, and heavy hops in this ale, and it tastes wonderful. Just not sure how exactly to gauge it in such a wide strong ale category, given the distinct Lagunitas hop profile. But I know I liked drinking it, from clear, ruby-brown look (with almost no head), to pungent, dank, and malty sweet aroma, to bitter-sweet and boozy-rich flavor well-balanced between fruity hops and earthy malts, to the silky-smooth texture.

This is now my all time favorite brew from Lagunitas . Nice dark golden look. Prominent foamy head and lots of stubborn lacing. For the high ABV (9.6) it's really smooth and tastes like a darker ale.

Pours an interesting shade of orange with a nice thick white head that leaves excellent lacing behind. Has a mild hoppy smell and something else - can't place. Tastes mildly hoppy and fruity, but leaves a strong lingering hop flavor. Good medium feel for this strong ale. Goes down smooth, but it's 9.6% - scary!

Fresh from a bottle to a glass. Builds a small dense head the color and texture of a Guinness, it seems to me. Mild lacing aND a head that does not linger all that much. Taste and mouthfeel are excellent. Color of moderate amber with good carbonation. Altogether a strong and excellent ale. Will keep some around to shut down a night of beering.

Pours a weak tea color with a large white head and lacing. A piney hoppy and alcohol smell. A deep hop flavor with lemon citrus notes. Goes down easy but does have a hop aftertaste. A nice high point beer.

12oz bottle served in pint glass. Beer pours a brilliant bronze color and is crystal clear, with a small off-white head. Mild, malty aroma. Flavor is bold and assertive, with ample hop bitterness and a pine flavor profile, matched to a heavy malt bill of medium caramel malts and cracker. Carbonation is just right. American Strong Ale describes this perfectly, rather than DIPA or American barleywine. Pretty drinkable despite being 9.6%.

Wish I did not try, but that's what flights are for @ lagunitas Chicago.

Pours a clear amber color with a little over a finger's worth of off-white head. Smells of citrus, malts, and peaches (kinda surprising but interesting). Tastes big with malts, some pine hops coming through, cherries up front, fades into more of a biscuit and caramel flavor. Complex enough that each sip reveals something new. Creamy, medium body feel. Overall it's a surprising beer, takes a number of twists and keeps you guessing, yet somehow is simple enough to enjoy while watching a game. Nice balance.

It pours copper and with some floaties. A very impressive head and retention for a beer of this strength. Nice lacing as well. It smells of sweet hops. Some caramel and burnt sugar. The taste is fairly bitter at the beginning and with a strong floral aftertaste. A fairly complex brew for sure. Very enjoyable.

Another favorite I thought I'd review:

L: A 12-oz bottle poured slightly aggressively into a fat goblet produces only a finger of head, but that reddish dark brown body is translucent and beautiful. Love the shapes in the lacing as well.

S: Very malt-heavy, like Hercules DIPA and Double Jack. More than anything, this really smells like toasted malt barley. But there are notes of caramel, molasses, peach(?), mango, cherry, prune, pineapple, and passion fruit.

T: Immediately sweet, with date, cherry, pine, (definitely) peach, mango, passion fruit and prune quickly bleeding out into the malty caramel, semi-sweet chocolate, and white pepper notes on the finish. Dank, rich, and yet excellently balanced.

F: Smooth for the high ABV, pleasantly chewy, and clean feeling. Exemplary DIPA. If anything, a tiny bit sticky from the sugars.

O: Lagunitas delivers, and at an unbeatable price, as usual. If you like your beer flavorful, yet smooth, this is the brew for you.

See thru look with an off white head. Scent is of a sweet candy like edge with big malt coming through. Interesting flavor with some hops coming through against a nutty and biscuit malt. Somewhat bitter finish with a coating mouthfeel. Alcohol really well hidden.
