On tap at the Brew & Meatball Company on 04/28/16.

Well balanced all around. Sweet caramel flavor malt up front with distinct but, subtle hop bitterness on the finish.

This beer get's nothing but 5's across the board from me.

Pours a deep brass color with a khaki three finger head that leaves an intricate web of lacing all the way down the sides of the glass.

The smell is perfect. Pink grapefruits, lemon rind, oranges, pineapples, freshly baked bread, caramel and pine needles.

Nothing short of perfection taste wise. Rich caramelly, malty, creamy goodness amongst a backdrop bitter, juicy, zesty tropical hops and pine resin. Finishes with an orange sherbert, sort of vanilla wafer aftertaste.

Tame, yet effervescent, crisp and clean mouthfeel. Medium body.

(bottle code: 005 6 2... purchased warm on the singles shelf... poured into a Chouffe tulip)

L: brilliant clarity within its medium-dark, orange-amber hue... some foam forms, but not nearly as much or even with the sticky-frothy structure and retention that an ostensibly boldly-hopped ale would have... the head does fall away rather fast, but it leaves a rocky collar... after pouring only a 1/3 of the bottle in the glass to start, the second pour brought with it some speckle-y sediment

S: sort of familiar, quintessential Lagunitas hop character - lemon, pineapple, orange, along with a delicate hint of menthol and maybe even raspberry... bit of an medicinal, tonic alcohol, although it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb... I would not mistake this for an ESB (or imperial mild, or whatever) by the smell, but it's nevertheless richly-fruity and quite appealing

T: richer, thicker malt than expected up front, vague tinge of brown sugar in the finish to go along with a zesty citrus spice... I might be reaching a bit here, but I could be getting a very mild vaguely molasses-y toasted cookie note in the aftertaste - but really it's all Trix-y hops atop a cordial underbelly, and the bitterness could be kicked up a few levels - it's undeniably a touch weak

F: quite apparent medium-full body up front, finishes out moderately resinous with a mellow dryness... fairly potent pop of prickly booze up front, with a lasting comforting warmth in the back of the throat down through the thorax - I'm kind of diggin this somewhat rough punch because otherwise the beer would be a bit oafish and lumbering across the palate

O: for whatever reason, Lagunitas essentially makes many beers that could be (and usually are) classified as (American) IPAs and double IPAs, etc, and markets them as mutations of other styles... there is, in my experience drinking them, very little variance between many of their brands, nothing to make any of them really stand out as truly unique... without going further through a rant - the collective hop flavors here are lovely, the aforementioned booze knock most welcome, but overall this beer offers nothing unique within itself nor within their portfolio - really don't see any reason to buy it again - clever names and style suggestions, little else... how do you feel about it?

Pours a dark amber color with a large frothy head that, when finally settles leaves lacing on the glass. The aroma and the flavor are both a beautiful blend of sweet malts and hops. Truly a great beer.

This, to me, is the beer that should be referred to as A Little Sumpin Extra Ale. It's basically just like A Little Sumpin Sumpin Ale, but with a little added kick in the alcohol feel and a ABV. Very solid.

First impression was not that great. I got a citrus after taste maybe grapefruit that I normally can't stand in an ale. But ...after half the first beer is gone ...you no longer taste the grapefruit at all. Overall...I rated the beer high because honestly the look and the smell mean very little to me. I drink beer to enjoy a beer. How it looks or smells means very little. This beer is too notch. It feels flying saucer familiar....which is where I go when I want to try a 27 dollar pint of some German underground ale I've never heard of. I had about half the beer drank before I realized my face was numb. It feels like delirium nocturnus...it's a worthy ale. Glad I picked it up.

An amazing beer by Lagunitas. Being at 9.5% and having such solid delicious taste to it making you want more, but you can really feel it just after one. This is great beer at a great value for a 6 pack. You can't beat the quality, price, and taste at such a high alcohol content. Will purchase again and again fruity hoppy and Lagunitas simple bitter taste.

A- Translucent, burnt orange-red... Thick head that dissipates quickly and leaves some nice lacing.
S- Sweet bready, malt backbone with some nice hop aroma but the malt takes front stage.
T- Biscuity with some lemony, citrus characteristics. Pretty nice and the alcohol is well hidden.
M- Light with light carbonation.
D- A decent beer. But I've had better from them.

Pours dark golden-brown, with two fingers of foamy head that lingers in the glass. Not much characteristic aroma. Tastes fruity, dates, malt? Stays on the palate. Feels a little thin, but smooth. ABV not obvious. Very enjoyable to sip.

Awesome amber ale. Robust head with slow fade. Not much to note on smell. Carmel malty goodness going down well balanced with bettering hops so as not to be sickeningly sweet. A lot of these could go down fast....and then I imagine I would as well!

Beautiful copper amber color. Musty nose. A hoppy undercurrent runs throughout, providing balance to a slightly (but not too) sweet malt body reminiscent of certain Belgian strongs. Somewhat boozy, but not overpoweringly so. Me likey.

We brewed this especially bitter ale in dedication to all of the worlds would-be astronauts, in remembrance of the 2005 St.Patrick's Day Massacre on the Brewery Party Grounds and also on joyous celebration of our 20-day suspension that following January. Do the crime. Do the time. Get the bragging rights. Cheers!

This is a very good brew that is definately worth trying out. It's very smooth and easy drinking for a 9.5% beer. After drinking this and reading the label I'm very curious of the past events that lead-up to this beer being brewed. Yum Yum!

Pours with a tall Head, the head sticks around for a little while but eagerly dissipates and leave some beautiful Leasing around the glass. Foamy, with a nice off-white color. The color of the beer itself is an amber red more reminiscent of a red ale but much thicker. Hoppy and Skunky. Kind of smells like feet.

Thick with a resin-y first taste of American hops. The bitterness behind the initial taste is formidable, but far from unpleasant; kind of like a playful shove from a potential mate you are courting. Finishes with a biscuit-y sweetness. A+. Long live the st. Paddys day massacre.

After reading about the legal troubles of Lagunitas, I was anxious to try this. The title, a humorous little jab at a ridiculous legal system that criminalizes something that should be legal, made me respect them even more. My inly wonder is why they didn't opt to make a dank and resiny IPA; nevertheless, I thought this was a great beer.
Look- Pours a semi clear copper with a large billowing bubbly head which is followed by a nice sticky and frothy lace.
Smell- fruity on the nose, like a strawberry jam, plums, raisins and figs. I also detect sweet caramel and toffee malts. Also a bit grassy and some booze. Very complex and pleasing aroma.
Taste- Sweet on the tongue, malt forward, caramel, molasses and brown sugar. The fruitiness from the aroma also comes through big time. However, there is also a strong and moderately bitter piny hops presence that balances out quite nicely. The finish is bitter sweet.
Feel- Medium to full bodied. Creamy and smooth. Softly carbonated and chewy. The alcohol is so well masked, and it's so drinkable, it's best to sip slowly.

Pretty good!

Glad I tried it and at $9 a 6 pack, not a bad deal at all. I can normally crush high ABV beers, but oddly enough, I was good after 2 on this Thursday night.

It was warming and hoppy but somehow left me wanting more (I liked it more than my last Hairy Eyeball that's for sure). Great QPR...but the beer isn't amazing. If you want a big beer, this will do the trick.

Gift in trade from Kif, the Business Fairy.

Beautiful amber with a really tight, light frothy white head that leaves a lovely lace all the way down the glass.
Pronounced hop aroma which I guess goes with being Lagunitas as well as a 9.5% (per my bottle) ale.
Taste is not Hoppy so much as a sharp piney counterpoint to the high alcohol and malt sweetness. Balance sorely lacking to me. "Beer speaks, people mumble" according to the label, and I could see a few of these putting a hurt on you pretty quickly.
Time for something stout or dunkel...

A- Pours dark gold with a quickly fading white head leaving sticky lacing
S- Pine, hop resin, some floral/fruity notes,
T- Heavy on the bitter hops
M- full body, medium carbonation, slick and coats the tongue
O- A nice and hoppy strong ale, but nothing too over-the-top impressive, I'll still take a Sucks or Brown Shugga over this.

Lagunitas has great beers, however this was not one of my favorites. I just felt the beer could have been better balanced for the 9.3 percent ABV. I was slightly disappointed, as it was very boozy tasting. Just my perspective, as I see solid ratings below. Just not my favorite and won't buy again.

Nice amber hue with a very strong citrusy and hoppy aroma characteristic of Lagunitas beers. Has a sharp, biting flavor mixed with high carbonation. Has that nutty, rosy aroma that I associate with high alcohol content beers. Another solid, Lagunitas brew.

A - nice orange amber color with an off white head that sticks for days and leaves nice lacing
S - grapefruit, orange, fruity hops, bread malts, sweet, some grassy/floral hops in there too
T - sweet caramel malts, grapefruit, citrus rind, piney hops, some grassy and floral notes too, very distinctly an American strong ale.
M - medium mouthfeel, alcohol covered decently, aftertaste is grapefruit and bready malts
O - overall this is a decent offering, I don't think I would buy more than a six pack of this per season, but a good beer for sure

pours with nice one finger head that dissipates to thin film that continues long after the pour. deep red color. nose is fairly strong with scents of dark fruit and sweet malt. get some sweetness followed by hops that are again followed by some mild sweetness. alcohol is well hidden. this beer is similar to brown sugga to me with a little more sweetness. hops are there but not overpowering. lagunitas always does good work.

12 Oz of unknown age into a wine glass.

Orange / amber. Soapy. Lacing from dissipated head.
Tons of hops in the smell. Smells kind of like Maximus or S-S IMO. Good.
Deliciously bitter up front but with malt sweetness too. Fairly sweet overall but the hops are definitely there. Nice balance, though maybe a tad less sweetness would be better, imo.
Thick per the 10% but smooth, as is to be expected from Lagunitas. Far less bite in this one than Brown Shugga tends to have. Think Maximus or S-S mixed with Brown Shugga, that's what this tastes like in my opinion. Very tasty, and economical.
