I rated this beer based on my experiences with straight ales. The pour was golden with a slight hue of red (not enough to be a red ale). This beer is flavorful and the bitterness is counteracted by the sweet bready notes coming through in the end. I believe the term IPA is widely over used. If this beer had a military rank it would be sergeant, commanding the domestic privates to be better

Just too hoppy for me. I am not one to enjoy hoppy beers so take that into consideration. Poured clear and amber in color. Some head with minimal lacing. I liked the look and mouth feel. Personally didn't think it had a strong alcohol taste but it was there.

Nice malty flavor at first, with hoppy finish.

Bottled 12/28/17, consumed 1/25/18.

Poured clear dark amber/reddish brown with minimal head, very minimal lacing.

Aroma is malt, bready, sweet, woody, some earthiness.

Taste is malt forward, sweet, some pine, a little bit of fruitiness at the end.

Feel is solid medium-heavy, boozy, solid bitterness.

Overall a nice changeup from all of the hoppiness and fruitiness out there. Strong but balanced and pleasant.

As pouring it didn't look like it was going to form a head at all until the end then a nice half finger of very light tan head came along. The beer is a very nice brown color. Like a beautiful wood brown. Almost ruby.
Smells of hops that mix with sweetness. Fruity with that sweetness almost makes it smell like a fruit dessert.
Unexpected from the nose the taste has a huge malt presence to it. And it's sweet.
Leaves a dry feeling on the lips. Has a nice body to it and is well carbonated.
Overall, this is a very well balanced and well made beer.

12oz bottle marked 361 7 2 2523 2013 poured heavily into a pint glass.

Appearance- super transparent amber color with a frothy off white/ tannish colored head. leaves some thick lacing. super duper!

Aroma- yeasty bread and some earthy hops. weird but not terrible.

Taste- caramel malt is the front runner. some earthy and slight citrus hops hang in the background. alcohol is easily detectable. really boozy. bitterness is there but nothing too crazy.

Mouthfeel- a medium/ heavy body with really nice carbonation. has a slight slick feel to it. nice

Drinkability- easily gonna crush four of these tonight.

Overall- this brew reminds me of a hoppy barleywine. kinda like sierra's bigfoot but i would say bigfoot is much better and hoppier. malt is the main thing in this and the hops just bring enough action to counter it without being overly hoppy. really balanced for the abv. if you're a hophead like myself and are feeling something on the malty side or a malt fan who is feeling "crazy" and want something with a tad bit more of hops then i would say give this a try. only real bad thing about this brew is the strong booze notes.

Pours amber color with an off white head it laces like a pro. Smells of pineapple and citrusy fruits. The taste is malty with a definite citrus flavor with piney almost resiny taste. very solid brew and well done.

Digging into a couple of 12oz bottles of this while watching some football on a cold, blustery Fall day....

This one is a clear, medium copper color. Carbo is hardly detected within, but the topping is lovely. There you'll find a frothy, rocky layer of off-white suds, with top-shelf lacing. Aroma has a bit of toasty malts and caramel, but it is predominantly rindy citrus. Body is solidly medium, and it is quite smooth on the tongue.

Flavor also has some toasty action and subtle sweetness. Then it goes all citrussy on you. Has some grapefruit, pineapple and a smidge of tangerine, all the while being pithy, resiny and piney. And, it's quite drinkable for a 9.60% ABV brew. Well done, Lagunitas! Prosit!
