I like that I can get this beer relatively fresh in the middle of nowhere. Pours a yellow color with some cloudiness that shows off the 50% wheat grain bill. Very enjoyable C hop aroma, you definitely can make a nice aromatic beer with C hops despite some often prevalent subjective wisdom running contrary to that thought.

Plenty of good green vegetal C hop goodness in the taste, bitter but not overly. Mouthfeel really does wheat beers well, nice and light, dry body that really lets the hops shine.

Easily top 1st tier wheat beer, done very well, better than almost any other I can think of. Easy availability will hurt its score on the BA top beers board, not rare enough, but to those who aren't into Pokemon level stuff, this really satisfies taste buds and the wallet. Sorry, no fedex bux here.

Pours a clear gold color with a small off white head.

Aromas are of sweet hard candies, hoppy citrus fruits, and pink grapefruits. Nice nose on this one.

Taste is bone dry, with lots of spices, soft wheat flavors, and light citrus hops. Finish is bitter, with a floral taste, more spiciness, and a definite mineral hop bite. This is a hoppy and flavorful beer.

Mouthfeel is good, and as noted very dry, with good carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. This is a pretty power packed little brew. Not sure I could drink more than a couple, but this is very tasty, and well worth trying. And yet another winner from Lagunitas.

Huge fan of this beer. This is a go to staple in my beer fridge.

A- Light copper, loads of head and nice lace.

S- Citrus hops, tropical fruits, yeasty wheat aromas.

T- Fruity, citrus, rind, lemony hops, after taste of hops is floral and fresh not to bitter. Nice malty, sweet bread backbone.

M- medium body with some slick oily hop feel and velvety carbonation.

O- This is a superbly drinkable beer that fits any season. A year round go to beer for me!

12oz bottle with no freshness date.

Pours an appealing orange-copper color (mostly orange when held to the light), with just a touch of haze to it. Head stood about one finger tall following a medium pour. Decent lacing.

Amazing aroma filled with orange zest, grapefruit, mango, and pineapple.

Taste is very fruity with moderate hop bitterness. Wheat and malts helps to balance things out towards the middle. Fruit flavor lingers in the finish with just a touch of bittterness.

Medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate to low carbonation.

A top-notch beer here. Pretty much an Ipa IMO.

Morey's Bottom Line: This one exceeded my expectations. Very tropical and fruity. I wish that I knew how old this bottle was, but there's nothing but a code (24210308) on the neck of the bottle, and I''m not sure what it means.

Taken from notes on 1.2.2012
12oz bottle poured into a Pint glass.

A - Pours a light, clear orange with a large bubble, near-white head. Solid retention.

S - Strong pine, citrus, and some grass.

T - Grapefruit, pine, orange, lemon.

D - Average body and carbonation for the style.

O - Great flavors. Refreshing and delicious. I love it and I am mad that it took me so long to try it.

A: Poured from a bottle to a weizen glass. Had a yellow-brown color and a slightly cloudy consistency. There was a two inch, creamy, fairly long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A sweet, sharp aroma of citrus, wheat, and hops.

T: Tasted of grapefruit, lemon, wheat, hops, a mild maltiness. Not quite in keeping with the typical American Pale Wheat Ale flavors, but still is very tasty.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a dry finish. Light-bodied.

D: This beer is not like others of the style - and that's a good thing. Drinkable.

I told myself that I wasn't reviewing anymore, but alas, I couldn't help myself with this one. Partially because I see the classification is American Pale Wheat Ale. Listen, I don't care if this thing is made with wheat, corn or fermented cow chips. This beer is an IPA through and through. And a pretty good one at that.

So after a nearly 2.5 year reviewing hiatus, here we go.

A - Clear golden brown with a puffy white head. A little lace clings to the sides.

S - Hops baby. Tons of them. Not completely different from their standard IPA, but a little cleaner and more pronounce. Citris (specifically pineapple)dominates this one, along with a little pine. Smells great.

T - Solid. You can taste a bit of the wheat when it first hits your tongue, but that goes away quickly once the citris arrives and sends it down the hole. Tasty stuff.

M - Very good. Much smoother than Lagunitas typical IPAs. Finishes a bit on the dry side, but not puckeringly dry.

D - Off the charts. A beer like this that logs in at 7.3 abv could be really dangerous. Tasty enough to be sessionable, but complex enough to make you pay attention to each sip. I really like this stuff a lot.

Edited: I don't know what "viney" tastes like, but apparently the reviewer after me does. If you make it all the way through that review, I'll mail you a gold star. And a sympathy card. As sample from the master:

"The beer finished with a nice mildly sweet lemon grass earthieness of viney earthy pungent bittering hops, there also where notes of a sweetness of lots of candied yeast and sugars as well as candied sweetness of banana's and a mildly undertones of citrus coming through in the finish."

-the guy after me (I didn't edit that). God bless English class.

But still, it's a good beer. Drink it. You'll like.

A: A nice clear yellow with a good amount of head at the top that leaves a nice lacing around the glass.

S: Lots of citrus on this brew, a lot of tropical fruit up front, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon.

T: A good bitterness, and great mixture of all the tropical fruits, grapefruit is really present throughout the sipping.

M: Medium bodied and moderate amount of grapefruit.

O: A good beer overall, good amount of everything and well balanced throughout, lagunitas never dissappoints.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/21/2013. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big pineapple, mango, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, orange rind, pine, floral, grass, wheat, light honey, and floral/grassy earthiness. Incredible aromas with awesome complexity of bright citrus hops and light-moderate malt balance; with great strength. Taste of big pineapple, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, orange rind, light mango, floral, grass, light pine, wheat, light honey, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon/orange zest, orange rind, floral, grass, light pine, wheat, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity of bright citrus/floral hops with light-moderate malt balance; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and moderately sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding IPA! All around awesome complexity and balance of bright hops and light-moderate malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Pour golden in color with a slight haze. A big fluffy white head sits on top and lingers awhile.
A beautiful hop bouquet greets you with citrus and grapefruit. A strong wheatish malt backbone there too.
Sutle wheat beer taste that struggles to make itself known under the thick grapefruit and floral hoppiness.
A medium mouthfeel to this beer with a dry finish. Bitter hops as well as bready and/or yeasty nuiances lingers well into the aftertaste.
A good solid wheat beer with a fantastic hop character about itself.

355ml bottle poured into tulip 20/5/13

A clear golden liquid with lots of bubbles throughout, large three finger head has great retention with a thick film at the bottom even after I drank all the liquid, a couple thick rings followed by continuous lace to the bottom, were off to a great start

S tropical punch going on here, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, and some peaches work well with pine, hard toffee and a little dry cereal is the only evidence of wheat, just a little booze and lemon rind

T slightly more grains and slightly less tropical hops, lots of citrus and the pineapples candied, pines stronger and although its very tasty the nose had just a little sumpin over it

M a nice bitter snap, a little gritty on the gums, not too heavy and not as many bubbles as I would guess from looking at it but that still leaves lots of life, piney rind and cereal linger on the finish

O I didn't mind drinking a solid IPA when I thought I was going to drink a wheat beer, hopped right up and I guess I shouldn't be surprised knowing who brewed it

I suppose this is one way to brew the best of a style, hop the hell out of a beer with some wheat malt and try to pass it off as a "Pale Wheat Ale". However you brand this one its great and I'd buy it again in a flash

A - Pours into my pint glass like golden straw, with about one and a half fingers of head that dissipates into a thin layer that leaves very nice lacing.

S - Love the hops, grapefruit and spice. Smells somewhat dry and bitter as well.

T - Very complex. Dry pine hops in the front with some spice that melt into a malty bitterness as it mellows on the palate.

M - Carbonation is right on with this brew. Nice and crisp with just the right amount of bitterness.

D - IPA meets hefeweizen, very drinkable, very delicious, enjoy!

12oz bottle in pint glass. Not my usual style, but one of the best hop flavors I've had, and balanced tastefully against the rest. Delicious! Really easy drinking for a wheat. From the description it seems like maybe it's still 50% barley; maybe that's why.

12 ounce bottle purchased at package store in Westchester, NY.

Poured into a large wine glass. Nice dark peach color with a smallish one finger head, that soon will turn to mainly a white ring with some light white lilly pads on top of the beers body. It smells mainly like a typical wheat ale with some faint hops. However, upon taking a sip, it tastes more of those aformentioned hops while still maintaining the characteristics of a wheat ale, and some brown sugar there too. It tastes very good and is unique. The mouthfeel is a bit dry, a bit sweet, but leaves your palate eager to have some more of this Little Sumpin` from Lagunitas. This beer exceeded my expectations.

A-Somewhere in between wheat yellow and burnt amber. The liquid is very slightly hazy. The head is fluffy, pretty, and retains quite well. This beer has textbook lacing. Overall quite attractive.

S-Smell is better than expected. Surprisingly stiff hop aroma. Tropical fruits and a well integrated malt. Smells like an American IPA

T-Such a brilliant taste. Exceeded expectations. Very happy with this brew. Delicious light malty side is overpowered by the hoppy explosion. Very very tasty. Juicy tropical fruit flavors are stressed on the palate. Light spicy flavor rounds out the taste.

M-Well carbonated. Light bodied. Surprised by the hop factor. Seems too light to pack such flavor. The brew is not overly bitter but the tropic taste sticks and clings to your tongue.

D-Drinks like a dream. The surprisingly high ABV is hidden masterfully. This is supposedly a wheat ale? More like a sassy IPA.

Poured from a bottle into a SA Perfect Pint.

One word describes the color of this beer, gold. Eggshell colored fluffy 1.5 finger head rises and stays for quite a while, leaving some nice lacing.

Smell has fresh cut oranges and other citrusy hop notes.

Taste is a bit piney with some citrus rind up front but moves very quickly into just a light hop aftertaste that keeps you coming back for more.

Mouthfeel is smooth but a bit watery there's some nice fine carbonation throughout.

This beer is drinkable given the ABV, the alcohol makes its presence known but isn't overwhelming by any means.

A-Deep golden color...not much head..

S-Great aroma...big citrus (oranges, tangerines) and also a real fragrant floral hoppiness as well...not much wheat on the aroma but an awesome hop aroma..

T-The flavors are really impressive too....hops are perfumey and floral with some slight citrus....and then on the very long finish there is a fantastic wheat cracker flavor...hops definitely lead and produce nice hop burps..

M-Not much carbonation...some booziness evident...a splash of alcohol I guess you could say..

D-Might as well call this a wheat ipa....damn nice....much different than New Glarus's fantastic Cracked Wheat....this is more of an IPA base with some wheat where that one has more weizen characteristics along with the big hops...both are nice in their own ways...

Good deceived me at first smells like a single IPA but once you take your first sip you realize it's a pale ale. Not a huge fan of pale ales but this was good. Would I purchase this beer again most likely not, but that's mainly because I do not care for the pale ale style. Would I recommend this beer to someone who does enjoy pale ales.... Hell yes!

It's always a delight to see the slutty Sumpin' girl back on the shelves. But she should be holding two pineapples in front of her boobs, because this beer tastes and smells (judge Smells?) like pineapples. Delicious, delicious pineapples. Golden liquid pineapples with a fish-belly white foamy top. Oh pineapples, thank you for your flavor profile in this beer. And the zippy fun finish is a nice reminder of the slutty girl on the label.

S: Citrus and malt.

T: Refreshing taste of citrusy hops and malt. Leaves a pleasant aftertaste that is somewhat faint.

M: Medium viscosity and medium level of fine carbonation.

O: A good ale that is somewhat sweet and malty. Very freshing and citrusy, this beer is an easy drinker.

A: Clear Light copper with large white head. Good retention and good lacing.

S: Decent dose of sweet malt and spicy hop upfront. Peach, pine needles, and oranges.

T: Pine and a grainy malt/bready sweetness. A very brief neutral grain note in the middle. Getting some peach and citrus. Orange and a little pine in the aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Good amount of dryness.

O: Good, well-rounded beer. Great price too. This beer will make its way into my rotation of 6 pk. purchases.

Pours a cloudy murky bright pale orange color. Lovely color and a nice 2 finger head is present. Big hopped up grapefruit aroma. Also some tropical fruit, maybe pineapple on the aroma. The aroma is very inviting and is dominated by the hops. Low smooth bitterness with a sweet hoppy finish. Loads of flavor, very tropical, citrusy, and overall just fruity. Finishes with a pleasant crisp sweetness. Solid mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. I love this beer, it has a little of everything. Its hoppy with fantastic flavor and aroma, but an overall low bitterness for such hop flavor. It drinks very well and I could always grab another after the first.

Pale Wheat, eh? Lagunitas' Web Site says it has a little "wheaty-esque-ish-ness." OK ...

It's a golden honey-straw color with great clarity and a nice two-finger frothy white head that drops to a layer of foam, leaving a nice lace in its wake. Lazy carbonation drifts to the top.

Aroma is of floral and citrusy hops, and a nice honey scent. Is Lagunitas spiking these beers with bee nectar, or what? Maybe it's just the wheat. A smidgen of banana, but not close to the level of a usual wheat. Middle ground between a wheat and an IPA. I dig it.

Taste doesn't quite live up to the promise of the nose, but it's still very nice. Some citrusy hops right at the beginning, then honey and some summery fruit characteristics; I'm getting a bit of peach and pear. That's followed with a decidedly bitter finish. Alcohol is hidden.

Medium creamy mouthfeel, moderate carbonation, crisp finish. Again, very much toeing the line between IPA and wheat.

Drinkable as all hell. Lagunitas, please don't retire this one!

Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale
12 oz brown bottle
Limited Release
Served in a 20 oz tulip glass

Pours a honey golden yellow with a slight orange tint. Nice head on top that quickly transforms to a big ole' lace around the glassware that leaves trails of sticky lace on the side of the glass.

Sweet smellin' nose with whiffs of fruits, perhaps some citrus fruits and ripe apples.

Oh yeah, one of those beers I go in for a sip and before I know it, I'm going back in for more. Nicely complex with thisl dry wheat thing going on with a monster hop presence on the finish. Zesty, tart and sweet juice flavors. I dig that juicy peach and tart Granny Smith apple bite.

Imagine one of your favorite hoppy IPA's and a classic dry wheat beer having an offspring. Nicely crafted and mighty enjoyable.
