Slightly hazy pour with a dark orange hue. Scent is of hop, malt and citrus. Taste continues this with a delicious equal balance. Lightish mouthfeel and the aftertaste that continues from the taste

July 27th, 2015 - Lagunitas Lil' Sumpin' Extra offers something, well, extra. I'm expecting something with more flavor and strength than I've had previously here at the tap room. The color has a nice depth and golden color to it, but also enough clarity to spy the other end of the tasting room. And the aroma is still somewhat light, but expresses more toast and biscuit notes and less sweetness than before. The flavor feels more moderate too, carrying more of the toasted and roasted flavors with some beef jerky and toasted honey. It is a delicious combination, and piques my appetite.

Tried this at Eli Cannon's in Middletown, CT. Came in a tulip glass with about a half inch of head leaving behind thick lacing. Golden amber hue that's crystal clear. Smells floral. Flavor is fruity with stone fruit being pronounced. Great tasting dipa.

Enjoyed with Bacon!
A pale, Champaign-like gold, murky-pale. Thin head, heavy lacing.
Intense citrus-scent, an abundance of malt-booze brutality!
Following the nose, Hop tempest in the vanguard, grapefruit,-pine booze burn, creamy crisp aftertaste.
Better brew , fewer bucks.
Strong.

Medium gold, slightly hazy...Short, quickly receding head..Ring and splotchy lace throughout session. Nose of primarily pine with some citrus in there. Taste is in lockstep with the nose..Medium/ oily mouthfeel with little carbonation...Very good DIPA and only $3.99 a bomber at work!! Excellent!

Pours out medium amber in color. Head is off-white with excellent retention and leaves tons of sticky lacing.
Nose is strong an absolutely bitter. Lots of grapefruit and orange rind. Mostly pine hops though.
Taste falls in line. If you need a hop fix this will do it.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slick. Carbonation is soft.

6/20/18: $5.25 12 ounce pour into snifter at The Garage & Sandwich. Light blond pour, mild carbonation, thin white lacing. Slight malt aroma, light malt taste, somewhat sweet. Light mouth feel, easy summer drinking. Overall good offering.

Pours golden yellow with light orange undertones and a touch of chill haze.

Dank, resinous and bitter hop aroma, fresh cut grass, orange zest, and a bit of sweetness.

Grassy, resinous, and citrusy hops come dominant in flavor as well with a sweet caramel/toffee note on the finish.

Medium-bodied, medium-high carbonation, crisp, resinous, lasting finish.

Overall, a delicious brew!

An excellent double IPA. Pours a deep gold and you can pick up a bit of citrus in the fresh smell. Taste is smooth and full-bodied. A little caramel comes through so there is some sweetness but it is not overwhelming - it's just right. Great beer.

Pours a hazy gold with a thick head and glue like lacing. Nose is full of citrus, hops, wheat, and some floral tones. The flavors are impressive, this is a home run of an DIPA. Loads of hops, sweet citrus, some wheat undertone that gives it some chewiness, and malty finish with slight bitterness/dryness. I am really impressed with this beer, it is one of the best DIPA I had, the flavors are amazing.

Pours a crystal clear deep gold/pale amber with abundant effervesce streaming up from the bottom of the glass. The pour produces 2+ fingers of white, foamy, somewhat lasting head that leaves rings & wisps of sticky lace. The lacing left on the glass as it is consumed is impressive. Aroma is heavenly tropical, floral & citrus hoppy backed by caramel malt & cereal, with a thin hint of butterscotch. Taste is juicy tropical fruit with notes of earthy, herbal & some citrus hops backed by a wet caramel & honey sweetness. Finishes with pepper, tropical/caramel sweet, low level citrus, a hint of pine bitterness that intensifies & lingers for a while in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy bodied with moderate-high carbonation, wet & juicy, mouth filling, slightly syrupy, mid-sip prickle that last beyond the swallow. Whooo-We, mighty nice!

A little sumpin extra ale pours a bronze color, with a long lasting and lacing head. Creamy fresh hoppy aroma. Flavor has a nice big fresh and wet IPA flavor, but finishes very sweet and earthy. Good body and feel. Overall, big flavors, just a little too sweet for my tastes.

Outstanding double IPA. It has great concentration and a very fine texture. The malt lends a shiny golden color. Bone dry with forceful hop flavors and bitterness. A great example of Lagunitas' focused style. [12 oz. bottle into a stange glass]

Couldn't figure out how fresh this was as the date on the bottle was not easy to decode. It pours amber with a huge head and awesome retention and lacing. The aroma and taste however were devoid of any hops, a sure sign of an old bottle. Medium body and mild carbonation bite. I'm sure this is a great beer but if the dating was easier to interpret then it would be easier for us consumers to figure out when it's worth purchasing.

L: This beer pours a nice orange amber color with about a finger of head and a little bit of lacing

S: Great citrus smell and very tropical with a high hop smell.

T: This taste of hops and citrus , grapefruit, pineapple, orange and maybe a little Mango. Very drinkable beer at 8.7 ABV and very well balanced hops especially for Hop heads like myself.

F: slight carbonation, a bit heavy and very well bodied flavors.

O: this is a great beer Definetely my favorite of the Lagunitas Line of IPA. Very west coast style.
Be careful on drinking this one as the alcohol can creep up on you quickly. Definetely a solid IPA.

Undated bottle into pint glass. Pours a clear golden amber with a modest but persistent off-white head. Initial impression is orange rind, citrus, and herbal hops, nicely balanced by sweet malts. Mouthfeel is medium thick and slightly sticky; carbonation is medium. Alcohol is well hidden. Finish is sweet but not cloying, gradually fading into a slight bitterness at the back of the throat. I'm not a big Lagunitas fan, but this one wasn't bad.

Perfect look for a pale ale.
Smells floral and citrus-y. Can't smell the 8.7% alcohol, so that's good.
Mouth feel is great. It's 95° here today and it's not watery, but also not so heavy to not be refreshing.
Great hop balance between floral and citrus, just a touch of earth, not too forward in any one direction.
Overall I'd put this in amongst my top 5 IPAs hands down.

All I really want to say about this beer is that when you compare it to A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' it just is not quite as good to me. There is significantly more bitterness while drinking and on the finish without really anything to the overall flavor profile.

True to the name, this is essentially a slightly amplified version of Little Sumpin' Sumpin'. The malts are much sweeter in this one, with that same citric and floral hoppiness that makes me really like non-Extra!. Overall quite good, although I prefer the regular version

Picked up a bottle at the grocery. Drank late night and agree with other reviewers that this beer gets better as you drink it. Pours and clear Amber with very little head. No lacing and had a malty smell. Taste is caramel and faint citrus. I don't taste the alcohol and gets less bitter and more malty as the beer warms in the pint glass. Not a bad beer but not a favorite.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a nonic pint glass

A- Bright, pale and only a hint of haze. Half-inch snowy white head that dissipated into a lacy coating

S- Bready malt, strawberries and cream. Not much hop presence, but the beer was closer to cellar temp when I drank it, so that might've had an effect.

T- There's the hops missing in the nose. Nice hit of bitterness up front, followed by the spicy malt and wheat they used in the bill. Very well-balanced flavor, and surprisingly devoid of alcohol bite.

F- Certainly sticky, but not to the point where it feels like you've been chewing on pine sap. Gentle effervescence makes this brew too easy to drink for 8.5%.

O- A solid beer to sip on, but not really complex enough to merit the alcohol level. The lack of favorable qualities relegates this one to the corner of "strong beers to get drunk off"

J code 177 7 (6/26/17) poured on 8/26/17
L: Nice, amber, clear, tight foamy white head, big sticky head.
S: Fruity fruity hops, bright, loud, great, wow, I'm interested. Citrusy blossoms and mango, sweet peach, tropical purée, ripe and ready.
T: IMPERITIVE to let this one warm up a lot, then the bitterness subsides and you're left with a palate full of smooth rich DIPA flavor. Straight from the fridge it was unpleasantly bitter and not much flavor, but let it warm and you'll find a mellow mixture of ripe citrus fruits and hops, with an easy smooth herbal taste; classic Lagunitas vibe! We got a good one here boys!
F: Just enough bite, slick and viscous. Great balance.
O: Can't help but take a huge sniff before each sip/gulp... Man this is good; lip smacking good! A real nose and palate pleaser! And so drinkable! Must get more! Oh no... Went to get more and they were sold out!!! If you find some fresh, better stock up, this stuff is good, for real!

A Little Sumpin Extra pours a clear pale amber color. The big foam head rises up to the top of the glass, nearly forming a mushroom cap. Good head retention that leaves plenty of lacing.
In the nose there is a good amount of citrus fruit, peach, and apricot. There is also a creamy malt sweetness that evokes caramel. A hint of pine and grass round out the earthy aspects of the aroma.
Little Sumpin has a medium bodied and juicy mouthfeel. It has a nice balance between citrus and pine along with a dry finish. There is a big chewy and sweet malt backbone that is caramel and toffee like. There is a tiny hint of alcohol, yet, it is not boozy, more of a vinous, green grape and white wine type feel. Other flavors include peach, grapefruit, apricot and orange. A bit of grass also emerges later on. Sweet overall but with a gentle bitterness and a bitter lingering aftertaste that increases in boldness as the drink wears on. Yet, as this dials up the intensity somewhat, the malt texture becomes more creamy and smooth at the same time.
A highly drinkable and tasty DIPA. This might be one of my favorites from Lagunitas

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip

A: Pours a light golden orange with a bright white head, no retention, slight lacing.

A: Sweet citrus aromas like tangerine and valencia oranges, light caramel malt aroma on the backend, no alcohol on the nose, not as hoppy as I was expecting.

T: Same as the nose with sweet citrus notes, light lemon peel, good amount of citrus peel bitterness that is a mix of oranges and lemons, finishes has a good dose of malt with sweet, citrus peel lingering in the aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation and a very dry finish.

O: Not an easy drinking beer, lots of citrus peel bitterness in the middle, really rakes the palate, lots of flavor but lacks punch in the aroma.
