Rich, smooth, dangerous, and chocolatey. It's a big ol' hoppy Imperial Brown Ale to help you with your slippery slide on into the heat of the night.

Shared 650 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 7.85%. Fairly dark brown colour, moderate off-white head. Intense aroma of brown malts, caramel, oak and dark dried fruits. Very malty flavour, same elements as in the aroma, followed by decent hops (but not as bitter as 64 IBU?). A well made imperial brown ale.

Poured from a large bottle into a nonic pint.

Pours crystal clear amber with excellent foamy head that endures well and gives way to nice lacing.

Aromas of caramel malt, orange, and faint resin hops.

The flavors follow the nose, but with a bit more complexity and overall sweetness. Caramel malt sweetness on the tip of the tongue. Orange zest and pith present along with unsweetened cocoa and mild pine bittering. Leather, tobacco, and other darker notes. The finish is earthy and slightly bitter.

The brew has medium full body. Well carbonated and decently drinkable for the style and ABV.

Of two minds on this one. Plenty of solid and interesting notes, but some clashing ones too.

$ 5.00 (Including tax)/22 oz bottle ($ 0.592/oz). Purchased from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. Reviewed 1/25/20.
Stamped on neck in tiny black characters on a brown bottle “263 ? ? 1” above “11261 1921”. On shelf at distributor. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 54 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Light brown, clear.
Body – Dark brown/black, opaque. When held to direct light, distinctly red-amber and clear.
Head – Large (Maximum four cm, aggressive center pour), light tan, high density, average retention, diminishing to an eight to twelve mm crown and a complete cap with some rocks.
Lacing – Excellent! Wide, tight band of extremely tiny bubbles.
Aroma – 3.5 – Mildly hoppy with ground pine and earth predominating.
Flavor – 3 - Mildly hoppy with no discernable malt character. Ends with a mildly bitter aftertaste. No alcohol (8.1 % ABV as marked on label) aroma or flavor. No diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 – Medium, watery, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.25. This seems about as much a brown ale as does the home brewed batch of rye double IPA I’m currently polishing off. If I use my imagination, I can discern a bit of malt in the aftertaste bitterness. Otherwise, no malt, caramel, or chocolate – just hops. However, it has both a pleasing appearance and a delicious hoppy aroma. One and done.

Pours a clear brown color with a big tan foam head that is well retaining. Sticky rings of lacing throughout; an elegant and appealing looking drink.

Aromas signal the rich malty flavors to come. Notes of brown bread, biscuity malt, chocolate, honey and lots of caramel. Just as importantly, the nose reveals that this is a well hopped beer. Strong notes of pine, earthy spices and fruity hops.

Complex and full flavored, with a full bodied and mouth coating feel. Smooth mouthfeel with a moderately gentle carbonation. Robust malts with a caramel wetness, chocolate, doughy and biscuity and brown bread make for a drink that opens with sweet flavors. Seemingly too sweet, yet, this drink grows on me as a subtle hops bitterness increases, yielding notes of pine, bright fruity and citrusy hops and earthy spices. Midway through, the drink has achieved a fine balance of malt and hops, while the finish becomes drier, more bitter and lending itself to better drinkability.

As stated, this grew on me and ended up being enjoyable. A nice imperial brown ale.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into my big Fosters glass.

Look - A rich burgundy that isn't quite crystal clear. The head refuses to go away, formed of some large sandy colored bubbles. The lacing is extreme with this one.

Smell - Sweet and nutty with a slightly sour citrus tinge to it that I was not expecting.

Taste - Woody, nutty, bready, chocolatey, earthy, and boozy. Big and bombastic, yet backs off just quick enough to not overpower.

Feel - Medium-thick with just enough life. Kinda chewy, kinda silky. Works very well.

Overall - Almost on the verge of too extreme, but it's perfectly restrained. I wish this wasn't just a limited release thing, I'd drink it year round.

(22 oz bottle, split between two fat tulips)

Barely an 'imperial' brown - an opinion strictly based on lack of imperial-grade ethanol presence... sort of an 'oh... aha!... hmm, yeah...' impression when sipping it for the first time and realizing it definitely has that Lagunitas hop profile, and it's merely a brown ale hopped to standard Lagunitas proportions... it has a solid, relatively punchy flavor - not too hoppy, not too malty (sweet); its hard-cut dryness accentuated by the earthy, piney, mellow herbal-spicy hopping... I would very much enjoy having the option to buy a six-pack (and I'd also certainly order an imperial pint of it, if ever found), but this bomber business is just silly - y'all put that crap 'Scotch ale' in 12 oz'ers - why not this? Big, creamy, almost creamed-coffee-colored head rests atop a light brown/dark red brew. Smells very toasty, like toasted rye bread. Also has the hop presence that all Lagunitas beers, regardless of style, seem to have. Also, also has a honey-like sweetness on the nose as well. Taste follows, to some degree, just doesn't deliver on the complexity of the nose. Very, very toasty (but not terribly roasty, if you know what I mean) with perhaps too much of a hop presence on the back end. Smooth and very drinkable and would probably age well (to a point). Would probably hold up well to some barrel-aging, too, if they were inclined to go that route.

Enjoyed the hoppiness of this fine brew. Very interesting flavor palette. I like a brew with a nice, grassy feel and taste and this one had just that. I will definetly be spending more on this the next time i make the run.
