This is a nutty brown ale, medium bodied that I had at cellar temp. Has a toasty taste along with molasses. Medium head. Very easy drinker. Doesn't wow but it's really solid. Packs a underrated punch at almost 8%.

This is phenomenal. I wish they would put it in six packs. Reminds me a bit of the Hairy Eyeball Ale, which was the first beer I had from these guys, as well as the beer that got me into craft beer forever. I find it almost infuriating how uncommon brown ales are, honestly. Whole bomber served into a big tulip glass at 50°F...

L: Lovely transparent reddish brown body, like a super dark cola. Frothy tan head left thick lacing on the glass and a persistent film across the surface. Beautiful glowing mahogany color when held up to the light.

S: Toasty wheat bread, molasses, almonds and macadamia nuts, chocolate, roast, and a touch of pine as well as lemon and orange rind on the end. No real coffee notes except the roast itself. Smells rather sweet, very malt-forward.

T: Absolutely perfect: rich, smooth and dangerous. Creamy from start to finish, like semi-sweet chocolate spread smeared across toast, but then you notice the toast got a little burnt. Also the chocolate spread had nuts in it. And toffee bits. Also, the bread was actually sourdough. You don't know why it left a perfumey astringent bitterness on your tongue, but another taste only reminds you how delicious it is, and after a while you don't notice the bitterness at all... just a piney, citrusy aroma lingering in the air...

F: Incredibly light for the abv. Barely sweet, when compared to most stouts. Borderline crushable: only too delicious not to savor. I'd guess from the body it were more like 6.5%, but this bottle says 8.1%. Again. Dangerous.

O: If I homebrewed, this would be the first style I would try. I really want to try that Hairy Eyeball ale again. It has literally been four and a half years. I think I like this even better though. Reminds me of Founders Porter, minus coffee. Does not remind me of Dogfish Head IBA. This is way better balanced.

Poured from 22oz bottle into glass. Stamped on neck of bottle is '233 7 2 2156 1404' (two lines). Is this August of 2017?
Clear, dark brown body, with reddish highlights. Persistent beige, thin head. Good coverage of lacing.
Smell of dark roast, caramel, and piney hops. Also a little molasses and bread.
Taste of caramel malt, with the bitterness of piney hops, a little dark fruit and molasses. Tingly on the tongue. Some sweetness throughout, but abruptly dry at the end.
Fuller, creamier mouth feel.
A very well done higher ABV brown ale. Has a solid taste profile and some zing

Brown Ale is meant to be imperial, this is my favorite. On Rattle N Hum tap NYC.
a) finger of tight, tan frothy head with plenty retention and lacing on a deep brown hazed body. Serious.
s) Dark fruit over caramel malt with unsweetened coffee and toffee notes.
t) Follows smell with more dark fruit and hoppy, floral notes.
f) Fine feel, pungent and perfect weighted: medium body and moderate carbonation.
o) Nice hoppy kick, amplified by the heavier body and ABV and power. Loved it. Try 24.

24oz bottle poured into glass. This beer is dark brown, with a thick beige head. The smell is pine, brown sugar, biscuits, and bread. The taste is like a roller coaster. Bitter, then sweet and finally sour. It tastes like it smells. The feel is a little heavy due to the abv, but more middle of the road. Overall, this is another awesome beer by Lagunitas.
