Bottled in Feb 2012

Pours a nice brown with a solid sheet of light tan foam. Smells robustly hoppy with some resin and tea. Nice malty background as well, burnt caramel and crystal malts. The flavor is malt first, slightly oxidized with a good helping of bitter and noble hops. Some grass and pekoe, nice flavor; just what I was looking for this morning honestly, glad I chose this one. Medium bodied with slightly hi carb and a wet finish. I like this beer, would actually like it more with a couple more months I'd guess. Good stuff.

An excellent full-bodied ale! A good alternative to a dark Belgian ale if you're looking for a slightly lighter brew.

Poured into a Belgian goblet, this beer is a clear mahogany with a gentle head (I bought this bottle on May 31st, well after its release date. No lacing, no foam retention.)

The nose of this ale is light, clean, clear hops. Excellent!

Quite often, when a brewer attempts a "lighter" version of a heavy ale, the taste just isn't up to snuff. Whether its un-balanced or just plain weak, often it is just a bland beer. This is not a bland beer. There is a good amount of malt, but not enough to put you to sleep or overwhelm you.

Mouthfeel is just this side of heavy, but not cloying.

Overall, an ale I'll be looking for again.
