look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75
Appearance: Pours a clear, medium golden to orange color with a strong and sticky white head. SRM of 8-9. (3.75)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, passionfruit upfront, followed by a strong peach and pear note. Sweet tones. (3.75)

Flavor: The flavor follows with more citrus/pineapple, passionfruit upfront followed by a deep peach and pear sweetness. Finishes with the classic Lagunitas yeast and malt sweetness on the finish. (4.00)

Feel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Finishes with a full-body and classic Lagunitas malt sweetness on the palate. (3.75)

Compared to Lagunitas Stereohopic V2 11/18/21: Similar pour. More fruity aromas (but also fresher). More peach, pear, and pineapple. Less orange citrus and blood orange. Similar sweetness.
3/8/22: Similar color. Stronger aromas. More tangerine, pineapple, pear. Less oxidation as expected by now.

Compared to Lagunitas IPA 1/17/22: Pours a lighter color. Milder aromas. More grapefruit, spiced orange, and pine. Less juicy green fruit, pear, and peach. Sweeter but also more bitter.

Compared to Stereohopic V4 2/8/22: Pours a slightly darker color, milder head. Stronger aromas. More candied peach, pineapple, nectarine and classic Lagunitas malt sweetness. Less orange, blood orange, cherries, and cream. A sweeter finish.

Overall: A nice and interesting blend of the Citra and Nectaron hops. The Citra is there with the classic Lagunitas grapefruit citrus, but it also has a nice showcase of the Nectaron, which is the predominant flavor here. It delivers the passionfruit, pineapple that turns into a peach and pear flavor. Nice and sweet finish as standard for many Lagunitas beers. I would rank the series so far as V1>V3>V2. my anticipation was high for this one, citra and nectaron, an oldie but goodie, and a new school varietal quickly becoming a thing. citra almost always does better with others than on its own, and i was excited for this pairing. i have mentioned the others in this series being a touch too big in terms of grain, body, and alcohol, and i think thats true with this one too, some general beer character obscures the hops enough that its clear to me a slightly more delicate base beer would be a better platform for showcasing these hops, maybe more true in this one than the first two, given the somewhat delicate nature of the citra and how much more of the nectaron i wish was here. this one also gets bitter quick, and seems less about the dry hop than the overall full spectrum hop profile, not that this isnt still on the edge of being a strong pale ale, but some aroma and flavor seems sacrificed to the boil, at least to my senses. i get some peach and apricot notes in the nose, lots of minerals, familiar citra lemon curd and soft herbal freshness, a little floral thing, elderflower maybe, a honey springy sweetness and richness, also some green lightly vegetal character, but not disagreeable or a product of this being overdosed. nectaron also seems to bring a little sativa fruitiness, and maybe an orange zest thing too, very good, but could stand to be turned up to me. i like this combination though, would love to see them together in like a 5% abv golden ale or something. better than volume one, not as good as volume two...

Lagunitas Brewing Co. "StereoHopic Vol. 3"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle coded "230 1 2 5426 0901" and sampled on 2 July 2022
$2.99 @ Foodery Beer, Philadelphia, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: The label lists Citra and Nectaron hops so I already have a pretty good idea of what this beer will smell and taste like but let's see. It's poured a clear deep gold body beneath a short head of white foam. The aroma is citrusy/tropical with apricot and peach. On to the taste... the malt is sweetish and richer than I thought it would be with a grainy/bready character. The hops remain the same as they're found in the aroma but let's try to pick out some specific notes beyond peach or nectarine. There's some orange, passionfruit, mild pineapple, and a hint of grapefruit. Everything melds together but you get specific notes standing out here and there with each sip. The bitterness is solid and it finishes mostly dry with some of the maltiness steadily eroding to leave fruitiness followed by some spiciness and earthiness. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp. The head has held up well and I still have a completely solid surface covering of foam beneath almost solid walls of streaky and splashy lacing. This is certainly a decent enough IPA, and it quite clearly displays the Nectaron hops if you've not tasted them before.

It smells dominantly dank but little hints of bright citrussy orange.

The sweetness of the malts are the first thing you taste along with bitter orange peel. The finish starts out super dank but that quickly goes away and your left with a lot of malt and orange sweetness along with a little bitterness. The sweetness fades but the bitterness lasts, kind of like some fucked up relationship.

It's really light bodied and has medium to high carbonation.

This does not taste like every other Lagunitas beer with the same flavor profile and just some emphasis on a new part of that profile. Nope this is a completely different IPA than all other Lagunitas. I applaud them for doing what most breweries can't and actually brewing a completely different IPA than they usually do. That doesn't mean it's stellar but it is good. I give it a 5 out of 6.

Gorgeous orange color that is practically clear with a fluffy white head that is three fingers deep after an aggressive vertical pour and clings to the glass like a suction cup.

The nose is nicely dank and features candied oranges, a bit of pine, and peaches and apricot that provide a bit of earthiness. Wow.

The taste has oranges and a bit of the aforementioned pine and a heaping helping of ripe peaches and apricot that work well with the other flavors. This is truly delicious if you like peach and apricot, which I do very much.

The mouthfeel is full and drying in the WCIPA style. I really enjoyed the first two offerings in this series, and this is another winner - I’m heading back to my beer store tomorrow to pick up another 6er, because this works REALLY well for me.

12oz bottle, date stamp of 230 1 2 5426 0930. Served in a tulip glass.

Appearance: Mostly clear golden yellow with a little bit of haze. Thin white head on top with islands and strands of persistent lacing.

Smell: Citrus, peach, and some tropical fruit as well. A pleasant aroma all-around.

Taste: Pleasant citrus (grapefruit, orange) at the start and finish, along with a bit of peach. Light malt in the middle for balance, but it's not really jumping out to me other than it's just enough to complement the hops. The hops are the majority of the flavor in this beer, but it's not overpowering nor is it excessively bitter at any point despite the malt taking a back seat to the hops.

Mouthfeel: A bit sticky on the teeth. Airy mouthfeel with a dry finish.

Overall / Drinkability: Very pleasant all around, and a definitely a showcase for these two hops. Easily drinkable and I wouldn't mind having another one or a 16oz can of this.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Snörkel glass.

Appearance is clearly filtered golden yellow. Thin cap of white bubbles, no lacing.

Aromas of citrus and pine, trace of alcohol as it warms.

Taste is grapefruit, pine, pineapple and lemon.

Medium mouthfeel decent lingering bitterness.

Overall, a decent beer, not spectacular, but a good drinking IPA.

Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT PURCHASE this brew, unless you happen to love the taste of lychee. Because that is the predominant flavor of this mess, courtesy of the Nectaron hops from New Zealand. The concept of the StereoHopic series is to utilize two complementary hop pairings to come up with a unique taste profile. Well the brewers certainly succeeded in the unique respect, since I doubt whether you will ever taste another beer like this one, unless you have the misfortune of ever having another beer which utilizes Nectaron. It totally overwhelms the Citra in this brew. Of course Citra has become one of the more popular hops in recent years based on its tangy profile of citrusy goodness, which complements the flavor profile of so many great hops, like Cascade, Centennial, etc. But when paired with Nectaron the result is simply an overwhelming dose of lychee combined with a hint of apricot, which is NOT a flavor combo that any beer lover I know would consider appealing. Lagunitas has many fabulous brews, but this is most definitely NOT one of them.

12oz bottle poured into teku glass. Picked up from liquor store for $1.79. No discernable date anywhere on bottle, but some weird code printed on neck.

Appearance - Pours offwhite two finger head with great retention, and decent if inconsistent lacing, but good stick. Clear, only slightly hazy gold-amber body. 4.25

Smell - Wet grass with fresh grass sprinkled on top. Caramel. 4.25

Taste - Wet muted hop. But enough of it that it still get a great amount of bitterness. It's just not sharp and biting or astringent. A little bit of that grassy bitterness in the finish, but actually very little considering. Just enough to let you know you've had an IPA, but nothing offensive. 4.25

Mouthfeel - Full bodied. Smooth and creamy. 4.75

Overall - Solid. Very drinkable. Great value for the quality. 4.25
